After 30 years of free alternatives
>We still don't know what audio system we should use
>We still don't know what display server we should use
>We still don't know what widget toolkit we should use

And the funniest one
>We still haven't figured out what's the best way to install software

unironically this. i tried installing a flatches- i mean flatpak and my OS doesn't even support it. i thought they were supposed to be the ".exe of linux"
>>
i installed ubuntu and didn't have to worry about either of these. didn't even need a terminal really
>>

is it saying that everything on macos is a webapp or something?

Oh cool. How do you patch your software on FagOS though? What was that? You have to wear the big brother mandated cock cage? You're saying you only want to cum from your ass and your bad clitty needs to be locked up, because you're an object, a bottom, a cum dumpster? Ok.

oh, also, that is a HORRIBLE way to install an app, I have no idea why people think that's good.

Ask yourself: What does the star wars actress think she is doing when she draggs the icon to "install" the application?

It's exceptionally poor communication. Look there on the left. Better communication. Crazy shit's going on. Thingies are happening. It's more than you can really cope with, probably. Very important Computer Things are happening in the box.

vs

I put picture of... like really idk, the logo, the um. circle four color logo thing is in the um. two arrows A folder. C ... in A. two arrows. Very simple, intuitive, it's in a window, you can minimize it (why?) and close it (I guess, that's a tiny close button...) AND move it. in case you need to refer to some documentation on dragging the thing to the thing, perhaps.

All of the choices suck though and don't work?
>>
>>110042792
Anon its beacuse in Linux unlike in Mac OS no one tells you how you should do stuff there isnt one right proper way to do stuff if you don't like something you fork it and move on that's why there isn't one standardized way of doing everything as you have freedom to do it your way how you like it
>>
>>110043569
the right way is to just use X but people like inventing problems for themselves

So you've never tried KDE

There isn't a best way. It's good to have options. Appimages, flatpaks, native installs, and wine prefixes are all excellent. There is no one best way to do this. Each form of installation has its own ideal use cases

Are you a bot? Why do you keep posting the same crap everywhere. I came back to /g/ after like 3-4 years. Even back then it was no different. I remember seeing this copypasta back then too. I guess I didn't miss anything by not being here.

I find Mac's way absolutely retarded. You could get a y/n popup asking if you want to install stuff, but noooo. You have to drag-and-drop shit.
And while Google added an arrow so you know what to do, most devs don't even bother. So if you're not used to MacOS it's just fucking confusing.
It's easy, mind you, but for the "it just works" OS it feels so antiquated. Grandma would have an easier time with Windows, GoogleOS, or any Linux distro.
>Linux
You don't have to use the terminal.

>>110043569

You can install shit using the terminal in MacOS, too:
brew install --cask kate

And yes, Kate crashes on MacOS, too. Thanks for asking (it doesn't happen often, it's fine.)

Anon youre missing the point here. Its not about what's the "best" but about the freedom to choose whats best for you and what you want to use not what other people deem "best" and "correct"
>>
>>110045026
I didn't say nothing about that on MacOS you can't install stuff with CLI.
>>
>>110045314
that was fun to say until gnome 3 welded the window manager to the panel and the applets. welding the window manager to the panel was merely stupid, but the applet thing actively harmed development by forcing people who want to make a basic applet to choose what only one panel they ever want their applet to run on. in X the only difference between an applet and a normal window is the applet gets its coordinates from the panel instead of just the window manager, and everyones one off panel applet from 1995 can run in any panel today
>>
>>110045362
This is exactly what I'm talking about but it seems like youre missing the point. If you don't like it fork it OR use something else.
