all binaries in the world are now open source, now what?https://github.com/morluto/rea
I don't believe it unless you show me the resulting code. So far what I hvae seen is always incomprehensible symbol soup. Some people can understand but I doubt 99% of the people can its useless.
>>110048689unironically, renaming disassembled symbols is probably a really great usecase for LLMs
decompile tower of babel or books from alexandriagl losers
>>110048689Most decomp projects (both the human and vibe varieties) are focused on either porting the binary to another platform or making some small-ish changes to specific parts of it. Most of the rest of the program can be left incomprehensible as long as it builds and works correctly.
>>110048875that's a recomp
the big thing missing is a ghidra / decompiler rust rewrite that has proper git like version control and supports multi agent swarms so you can just blast repos with 20 autists claude subscriptions from across the globe
>>110048875>as long as it builds and works correctlyThat tends to be a very large stretch. Contrary to what people believe, a decomp is not even remotely source code, even incomprehensible source code. You change one instruction somewhere and some other block elsewhere explodes because the optimiser had created position dependent code or mistook a bare pointer for an int and now the references are all shot. That's where a lot of the bugs in these recomps are coming from. The decomp was vastly incomplete and so the AI was sloppifying slop.
Try it on something protected with denuvo or vmprotect, I'd really like to know how it deals with those

De/recompilation is going gangbusters in the audio hardware emulation/ plugin space, you can now run Elektron drum machines/synthesizers on Akai MPC hardwareI’ve seen more innovation in the last 4 wild than in the last 10 years, quite a free manufacturers have been phoning it in for years and stringing their users along with minimal upgrades or lying to them about some features being impossible for hardware reasons when they were just doing market segmentation. Admittedly dsp algorithms and sequencers are a special use case where the underlying code is relatively simple and uses extremely well defined math, but it’s apocalyptic levels of change going on rn
In the era of AI, games will need more than just gameplay to survive, since anyone will be able to just decompile them, or create a near replica from the ground up. In this environment, playerbase becomes even more critical, since if the gameplay you want comes from other players, stealing the code won't recreate that. My hypothesis is that eventually, games will have to actually offer incentives to players to get them to play their games. F2P isn't enough anymore, games will be paying players to be part of their playerbase.

>>110048875it depends on your goal. you can get a matching binary while still having an unmaintainable, poorly-understood codebase that explodes when modified due to thinks like non-relocateable data/functions. without further work it may be little more useful than a disassembly

>>110053578This is actually correct. People are never going to vote against free shit, this is why we have to have laws that enforce property rights and why there are functionally no property rights in places where there are no laws regarding property rights. Its something that has to be mandated and enforced. Most consumers are not economically literate, they don't care whether or not free shit destroys the economy in the long term, they just want the free shit.
