We should start a movement of only using technology from a certain period like the amish. The obvious answer is the 2000s.
>>110052674That'll fail because all of you are trans or some other kind of dysgenic freak like poltard. Amish only got where they're because of high birth rate and would've gone extinct long ago if not for that.
>>110052690I'm not trans but I'm quite autistic and off putting
>>110052674nostalgiafagging has already made shit like CRTs and gaming consoles soar in price.
>>110052708in the third world
>>110052815AVGN alone caused all the shitty games he reviewed to instantly get hiked up to absurd levels.
The Amish can actually source the technology they want.
>>110052674I'm finding less and less reasons to use modern hardware/systems. there is almost nothing of value on the internet anymore (aside from a few forums and blogs), none of the software works properly, entertainment is mostly just pure slopyeah why not
>>110052674>We should start Why?>only using technology from a certain periodAnd what would that movement consist of except for pure aesthetics?>>110052708>nostalgiafagging It isn't even true nostalgia. It's larping.
>>110052690Foreskin sucker
>>110052674babyduck movement
Why do you need a "movement" for that? Just do whatever the fuck you want.

Most seem to agree smartphones are the point where we jumped the shark. So the cut off year is like 2008.
>>110052674>The obvious answer is the 2000s.More like 2012, 2013 at the latest. Windows 8.1 was the last good Windows, we had SSDs and I already had gigabit internet at the time, everything was blazing fast, the best web browser was still alive (Opera), you could do absolutely everything you're doing on your PC today back then (except local AI obviously). Large-screen LCD TVs without any spyware cancer, we had awesome PC games and some great 7th generation console games. You could have a Kindle-like device to read pirated books, you could have a smartphone that was actually customisable, to the point where you could install desktop browser extensions on it. The only objective improvement since then is OLED TVs and high-refresh rate monitors.
>>110054424Windows 8 was cancer. It's no coincide that the first wave of normies looking into linux happened at the same time.
>>110052674Where'd you get that 2000s tech? Manufacture it in your backyard cabin?
>>110054447No it was not, it was an objective improvement over 7 and it was exceptionally fast, even running from a HDD, if you had an SSD it was insanely fast. It was also trivial to remove the store and get the old start menu, if you're going to argue that that's not fair just check how many people are running 10 IoT LTSC now.
>>110054460>it was trivial to change from the defaultWell why wasn't that default? Win8 UX sucked. Everyone's mom and dad asked how to use this shit. Didn't help that MS gave an intro comparable with a jewish passover fest. >but it was fastWhat? The bootup? Compared to Win7 it was a minor improvement when people were looking at comparisons with win2k. If your only argument is >SSDs got available to the common Joeyour argument be insufficient in a software debate.
>>110054515Why would i give a shit about the opinion of moms and dads and other boomers is this /g/ or Facebook? It was trivial to get the old start menu back. For that matter why would I care that non-enthusiasts were still using HDDs as their boot drives? Like I said I had an SSD and I had gigabit internet even back then in 2013. As for 8.1 you're forgetting or intentionally omitting the most important context, the actual reason for the new "start screen".8.1 and UWP apps were designed for both desktop and the new for the time category of tablets. 8.1 HAD to run on acceptably on a single core Atom with 1-2GB of RAM and 32GB eMMC storage, essentially netbook specs that 7 struggled with. It had a newer kernel with a lot of memory optimisations. The way I had it configured it had a lower storage and memory footprint than 7, and even fewer background processes running.
>>110052674But old technology sucked ass. They were visually appealing but I don't miss minutes long boot time.
>>110052983>It isn't even true nostalgia. It's larping. It's completely normal. Older zoomers experienced some of the 2000s tech environment and it's completely fine to want to go back, the main reason is because the speed at which modern tech improves is not aligned with how humans experience life, you're so used to it that you don't think there's anything special about it. But our brains aren't designed for this much change. During most of history, not that much changed around you at all, you used same tools your great grandpa used centuries before. World should basically be the same at 28 as it was when you were 12, that's healthy. Current reality is not healthy.
it's the same mentality as people who buy modern dumbphones to "cure phone addiction". modern technology is capable of letting you do what you want with it. there is no need to return to monke.
>>110054588I recorded this back in April 2014, I don't think this place even supported .webm videos in 2013.It was to demonstrate that the FX 6300 was plenty fast, but you can see just how snappy everything was back then, the video is not sped up I was simply trying to fit as many file types and program types as possible in less than a minute.
Me with a minimal Gentoo install and dwm, everything using less than 100 Megs of RAM.
>>110054719Youpoop runs like garbage now, everything is poojoo slop nowMaybe ai will save us from the poojoo menace
>>110052674If you have to stop anywhere stop in 2016Rhythm game instrument sets, toys to life and experimental motion controls all GPU tech all signaled a civilisational peak. 206 is just past that when the great recessions consequences where plain and the collapse began. After that it's just covid, milennials ruining everything and zoomers drooling on themselves.
>>110054350thiswhen the fuck did everyone become such pussiesyou don't need validationjust do shit and if other people like it they'll imitate it
>>110054588>8.1 and UWP apps were designed for both desktop and the new for the time category of tablets.>8.1 HAD to run on acceptably on a single core Atom with 1-2GB of RAM and 32GB eMMC storageIt's nice that hardware limitations make things like that possible. Unfortunately, the standard business model is to bloat and gimp your software so that you'd buy new hardware (which might even be the exact same hardware but rebranded).
The number of people willing to segregate from society is small. Amish communities start small and grow. But they are able to grow their own food and produce their own tools. Because their tools are medieval and simple. You can't do that with high-tech. Even making a Pentium 486 is beyond any small group's possibilities. The most I've seen was that guy that made a chip in his shed. Was a few tens of thousands of dollars and I'm not sure if it was even in the kHz of speed or kB of memory.Even irl companies that make their own stuff are literally stuck at motorolla 68k level. We need to solve this first. Or we need a bigger community... which is difficult to form when you don't have anything to show.
>>110054719There has never been a moment in time when fucking photoshop launched in under 3 seconds fuck off. You already opened it and it was cached in RAM. There's no other way.
>>110052674>2000sMake it early-2000s and let’s stick to 32 bits.OpenBSD and NetBSD still support it.>>110052690>That'll fail because all of you are transOk so how am I daily driving 32 bits just fine?
>>110058043You know you can just buy old hardware on ebay right?
