its alright
>>
>>110053522
99% of the content your consume is not being sent in HDR
>>
but its really only for gaming, it sucks for web browsing
youtube videos get ruined by the fact that theyre 60 fps max so the brightness transitions look choppy
>>
>>110053547
thats why it looks so grey
>>
>>110053522
its utter shit. it makes games look far worse and colors look bizarre. if the source isnt HDR it cant be faked
>>
>>110053569
>if the source isnt HDR it cant be faked
some youtube videos do support hdr tho (proudly proclaimed in the quality settings)
if it could automatically only enable hdr when the creator configured it i would be happy
but otherwise everything else looks like shit
>>
windows is absolute SHIT at handling HDR, it gets absolutely mogged by kde/kwin, if SDR content looks fucked its because it maps gamma incorrectly, see https://github.com/dylanraga/win11hdr-srgb-to-gamma2.2-icm

for games always check for a renodx mod
if your monitor doesn't have mini-led or oled style backlighting then don't even bother with HDR, 10 bit will get you less banding, but that's as far as you're gonna get
>>
>>110053547
>y-you dont need that
ok poor
>>
Dogshit gimmick, sets the brightness to max and when a program is launched it has to switch in erratic ways
>>
>>110053849
>le straw man
You're slow and angry.
>>
>>110053547
if content is not in HDR, it can be modded in (great) or ITM'd (decent), anyways >>110053738
is right
>>
>>110053522
It's a meme
>No bro it's great you just need to make sure you're getting a real HDR monitor because there are fake ones and also you have to use KDE not windows and also you have to use reshade and you need to install the mods and you need to configure th

>>110054042
its literally just
>turn on when content is made for hdr
>turn off otherwise
>>
>>110053953
Yeah but it's not done by just toggling that option. And honestly it looks like garbage.

properly done hdr on a properly-supporting screen is amazing, most people are filtered by either shitty hdr content (a lot of games include hdr but their implementation is fundamentally bad) or just shitty vendor implementations (windows)
>>
>>110054042
for 99% of games on windows, you toggle it on, then you just drop in reshade as dxgi (no need to install any shaders) and the addon64 in the same folder, bam, done, the curves are just to fix the shitty sdr-to-hdr mapping
>>
>>110054042
>you just need to make sure you're getting a real HDR monitor because there are fake ones
literally filtered by shitty marketing, physics and how backlights work, not an hdr issue, but rather an iq/wallet issue on your part, sorry anon, can't have true blacks and bright highlights on the same scene with a single led backlight
>>
>>110053892
>ESL says "your consume" then calls me slow
seek employment.
>>
>>110053547
>>110053738

only if you have a shitty oled/ips, on a miniled hdr looks great, and you can dim non hdr content,
>>
>>110054063
if it looks like garbage on a game with renodx then either you didn't run the calibration (just set your monitor's peak brightness, and middle white to 203) or your monitor doesn't have decent backlighting zones
installing the curves linked earlier will make all SDR content look like when HDR was off, while letting HDR content through, which is what KDE does by default, on windows this crushes the curves a bit though

>>110054150
even a shitty oled should be able to reproduce hdr properly, windows and game developers are both objectively bad at handling this in most cases though
>>
>>110054155
>>110054048
properly implemented HDR doesn't need you to be constantly toggling it, again this is windows' fault

t. have been running always-on hdr for years now with SDR content looking exactly as it does with hdr off
>>
>>110054155
>a shitty oled should be able to reproduce hdr properly
it simply cannot, the brightness is too low
>>
if you think HDR is bad then you've been a victim of either
>shitty marketing for LED backlights as hdr capable when they are clearly not, you atleast need zones (i.e. miniled)
>windows implementation being shit
>game dev implementation being shit
or all 3

proper HDR has the game look pretty much exactly like SDR, while allowing for true black and bright (400+ nit) highlights to live in the same scene at the same time (plus possibly deeper colors from expanded gamut)
that's it
it shouldn't really affect the look of anything SDR, or art-style wise

this solves hdr/sdr on windows
>>
>>110054207
not really, that's only for video (and on some players), this does https://github.com/dylanraga/win11hdr-srgb-to-gamma2.2-icm
>>
>>110054218
nope it dims all non hdr content
>>
>>110054207
why is it different in the screenshot
>>
>>110054223
non-hdr content shouldn't dim, anon
>>
>>110054239
it shouldn't be bright
>>
>>110054261
it should peak exactly at 203 (sane for everyday use) or 400, depending on your choice
>>
>>110054261
>>110054273
>The white level (or reference white) is the brightness of a non-reflective, white object. Colors that exceed this brightness, are called specular highlights. The established white level of Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) is at 75% of the signal, which corresponds to 203 nits on a Monitor with a peak brightness of 1000 nits.
