Hi, any recommendations for a soon to be Gentoo user?

Install windows 11 pro instead since you cannot think on your own and don't know what you want anyway.

It was too complicated for me, so i went straight to LFS
>>
>>110054633
the only thing keeping me from maining it is how long it takes to update the system. this wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't sometimes necessary to update before running certain programs. really fun to use distro though

Maybe if you weren't a poor turdworlder with ewaste for hardware you wouldn't be posting this cope.

I've installed Gentoo many times, even installed LFS, but I'm 0 for 2 with W11

install Gentoo

some people use their system as more than just a firefox bootloader though

I am first time Gentoo user and this is what I have figured out. Check everything and trust nothing, I just created aliases and these are what was included into those:

sudo emerge -gva <something> # install packages
sudo eix <something> # search packages
e-file <something> # find which package provides a file
sudo emerge --unmerge <something> # uninstall packages
sudo emerge --ask --depclean # to remove packages that are no longer needed

# before update
sudo emerge --sync # update package database (don't do more than once a day)

# update
sudo emerge -pauDNg @world --autounmask-continue --autounmask-license=y --keep-going --nospinner

# after update
eselect news read && emerge @preserved-rebuild @module-rebuild && dispatch-conf && emerge -pauDNg @world --keep-going --nospinner

watch --color -n 5 genlop -c # lurk what is happening with installation process

# @world user-installed package set
# @preserved-rebuild packages needing rebuild because of preserved libraries
-p pretend, do not install
-a ask before continuing
-u update
-D deep dependency update
-N rebuild for changed USE flags
-g use binary packages if available
-v verbose output
-R regular expression search
--sync update package database
--unmerge remove package
--keep-going continue after failures when possible
--nospinner disable progress spinner
--autounmask-continue automatically accept unmask changes and continue
--autounmask-license=y automatically accept required licenses
dispatch-conf manage updated configuration files

thanks fren, that will come in handy

If that is true for you, then you can compile even most bloated packages in under an hour.
