I am eternally grateful to GNU and rms so I promote free as in freedom language and recommend GNU when I think it will suit the needs of whomever I'm helping. Personally I use a lot of GNU programming tools like the compiler, debugger, and emacs of course.
>>110059374I love GNU. Their documentation is always very well done.>I use gnu screen instead of tmux>I edit all my files in Gnu Emacs instead of VIM.Why do you use gnu screen instead of using emacs alternatives for your terminal applications?

>>110059470I use gnu screen for session management on remote servers. i don't use it locally as much.I don't tend to use a lot of Emacs based utilities. I prefer the CLI. but I like mu4e and newsboat and I will probably start using magit too. I mostly use Emacs as a text editor.
>>110059638>newsboatsorry, i meant newsticker. newsboat is another terminal tool.
>>110059374I prefer GNU and GPL to other licenses when possible, though it's not a hard-and-fast rule. I also like GNU Screen (over tmux) and I use GNU Source-highlight (instead of pygmentize) for syntax highlighting outside editors.
>>110059374Emacs takes a lifetime to learn. So the sooner you start, the longer it will take.
>>110061343>C-h t>go through the tutorialdone.everything else is optional. you don't have to be an elisp wizard to use emacs.
