Why hasn't sleep technology (pillow and mattress) evolved much in the past 2500 years? How can the average user achieve a good and refreshing sleep in this day and age?
>>110060003Meth is what you need
>>110060003I believe it changed when we went from sleeping on straw and wooden pillow to cotton mattress in the late 19th to early 20th century and so on.
Firmness? Temperature control? Lumbar support? Individual adjustments? There's a lot of technology that goes into mattresses, and they can easily reach like $20k just for one alone.
>>110060003Why are his armpits yellow? What a fucking slob.
>>110060190I'm considering just getting a futon. Matresses are kinda shit for your back unless you go for real high end.
>>110060003take one shot of bourbon before bed
>>110060003A big pot is all you need.
i assembled my own mattress8" legett and platt pocketed coil spring set3" dunlop latex foam layercotton zippered encasementit was cheap to buy and it feels nicer than anything i've owned previouslyunfortunately it has an issue of needing to unzip it every month or so to drag the latex back to the center, otherwise it's kinda trying to migrate off the side
>>110060003>Why hasn't sleep technology (pillow and mattress) evolved much in the past 2500 years?Modern dakimakura are pretty great.
better question, why isn't sleep considered a defect that needs solved?
>>110060267the value extractors want this more than the common people do, honestly
>>110060267well, it is. sleep is a chemical addiction that humans developed, and the tiredness is your withdrawal symptoms. some people have managed to go cold turkey on sleep and fought through the suffering to break the addiction
>>110060278you would think, there doesn't seem to be much public R&D on it though, or atleast progress.Or is it being blocked by Pharma companies?
>>110060003How the fuck is "sleep technology" real hahahaha nigga just lay down, like nigga close your eyes haha
What pillows do people prefer? I could sleep without a pillow completely, but the thinner it is, the better, for me. I bought a thick pillow a while ago and I could not get used to it.
>>110060267There is an ubermench sleep pattern where you take naps for 20 minutes at specific intervals during the day. It's mostly used for turbonerding books before important exams. Sleep deprivation will just cause you to hallucinate and die after like 10 days.
>>110060300that ubermench sleep pattern is a meme it is bad for you, he based it off seeing animals nap all the time. the most healthy form of sleep is 1 long sleep + 1 nap after 6-9 hours of waking if you miss that window don't nap. here is a unnecessarily detailed write up about polyphasic sleep like the ubermech sleep patternhttps://supermemo.guru/wiki/Science_of_polyphasic_sleep
>>110060378Yeah that's why I presented the only edge case where it's applicable. Messing with sleep is a very bad idea. The subconcious needs its quite time to do it's thing.
>>110060258>wearing socksDisappointing to say the least. I hate her.
>>110060297I use buckwheat hulls. It rustles nice and form fits.
>>110060397>I presented the only edge case where it's applicable.cramming is about the worst way to learn, but napping can help, just not for the reasons of getting restedison and dali had devised methods to try deliberately falling asleep while holding something, then when they reached sleep they would have drop an object onto the floor to startle them back awakehypnagogic napping only needs a few seconds to do its job
>>110060454That's literal torture though. Soviets used a similar thing where they'd force their victim to sit on a bench in a cell and didn't allow them to move. There would be rotating patrol that would constantly watch them. The moment the victim started to doze, they'd wake them up asking if they were all right until the victim completely mindbroke.
>>110060481yeah you still need real sleepthe technique isn't a substitute for sleeping, it's a technique for research/study and entering forcibly entering diffuse modeyou're in control of doing it, you're doing it deliberately, and you stop doing it when you're done with what you're working on for the day
pardon editing my posts and winding up with weird phrasing twice nowthe text box is too small to notice the errors
>>110060003grog sleep on grass. grog use buffalo hide for warm and cavegirl thighs for pillow. grog sleep good. no need cotton
>>110060003Zoloft
>>110060215don't do this, alcohol is bad for your REM cycles
>>110060741uh oh, i've been doing this for a while
>>110060003>Why hasn't sleep technology (pillow and mattress) evolved much in the past 2500 years? It has, people just think it's a meme.
Man I really need something to repair my back while I'm sleepingI've considered a futon since people say they straighten your back. Are those legit or just placebo?
