Arch sisters the thing that never happens, happened again
>>
why do they target the minorities? that's not fair
>>
>>110062374
The solution to this is repo jannies getting off their fat asses and just adding more packages to the official repos. The average to moderately advanced user should NOT need to use aur.
The aur is just a convenient way for them to be able to brag about their distro having the most packages while at the same time not having to maintain them.
Also the aur should just be a linux version of obtanium, where you just download signed binaries off of github, there is no need to have a whole separate system of accounts that can be hijacked or impersonated just to provide a pkgbuild.
>>
>>110063074
1. Absolutely proprietary
2. Nobody brags about the number of packages
3. Memearchy fags are hard at work making sure not a cent and increased server load lands squarely at arch's lap.
The only bad thing about the AUR was the ease of taking over a forgotten package (which was perfectly fine before the memarchy fags, mind you. They made AUR a good target to create stealers of AI API keys).
No package repository actively fights against typosquatters as far as I know.
>>
>>110062374
Windows doesn't have this problem.
>>
>>110063074
The official packages of Arch btw are being maintained by one guy in Wuhan
>>
>>110062374
AUR is fundamentally a broken model of doing things. There's a reason why every other Linux distro has user-created and controlled repos rather than one big dumping ground where anyone can take a name and put a build script under it (which, coincidentally, is the exact same issue as DNS trust)
>>
>>110063391
You're the one using an AUR helper in the first place, retard.
>>
>>110062374
Remember "Linux doesn't have viruses unlike Windows"?
>>
>>110063398
Buddy I don't even run arch, I run Gentoo. You really can't argue that the average arch user isn't a fucking retard who just uses a helper either because that's what everybody encourages
>>
>>110063191
You're right. Windows just tells you to go find winrar and pay for it.

>Gentoo
lmao overlays are literally worse than the AUR, also enjoy your barely maintained distro
>>
our response, archsissies?

I use makepkg and don't use aur in general.

this, just make an LLM write you the pkgbuild

You can't even cope with muh official repos because there's a good chance the arch devs use the aur too and can get infected

What's wrong with using a helper? It shows diffs.
>>
>>110063599
Bait used to be believable

>Heh guise, imagine just blindly installing from the AUR! This would NEVER happen to me, I review EVERY SINGLE package I install, their install script and every binary they download every single time I update!

This is what Arch users on /g/ actually claim. Guess what, they don't actually do this.
>>
>>110063191
windows doesn't get malware from unofficial downloads?
>>
>>110063408
Unironically Windows has always has better security than Linux. Linux only defense was "well, if you run stuff as another user, then - " but you don't actually do that on a desktop system.
>B-but you can write an AppArmor profile-
but the malware obviously doesn't constrain itself.
Windows at least has some protection against bad binaries like SmartScreen and Mandatory Integrity Control and a preinstalled anti malware tool.
>>
>>110063074
These are install/compile scripts. Some huge amount of stuff aren't pre compiled, some stuff are too small to be considered a real package (like themes). AUR is good, you just have to be careful and only install legit packages.
>>
>>110063191
whoops! you've just downloaded the wrong .exe
>>
>>110062374
>the thing that never happens
Nobody said that would never happen, especially on the AUR.
>>
>>110065981
this

read the fucking diffs, it's a nothingburger

There will always be jeets in society participating in jeet activities - it is not news
