I wonder of the fan on that thing lasted even a year.
>>
Are 420/480mm AIOs worth it?
>>
>>110066688
There's no replacement for displacement.
But, it's definitely a case of diminishing returns and especially with AMD5, your bottleneck is the headspreader, interface and pump before the size of the radiator.

Bigger radiators still do better, but in terms of money to performance ratio, there's less there. Really, the big benefit of a 420mm rad is that it uses 3x140mm fans and those are quieter.

I wouldn’t mind getting the black version if I needed a new case.

>>

Go to an electronics store and demo them.
>>
>>110066882
It depends on your setup, use case, and priorities
If you're only going to be doing games on that monitor and want best motion clarity/response times and contrast you can buy OLED knowing it will burn in eventually despite superior picture quality
Anything else and mini led might be better if you are more of a mixed user and frequently have static content, or maybe you just like the high sustained and peak brightness more
>>
>>110066886
Yeah but most people can't afford to buy OLED again and if monitor prices are going up then you probably want your investment to last

It's getting to be around the time to repaste my CPU, so I'm wondering if I should upgrade my cooler while I'm at it. I'm running a Scythe Fuma 2 on a 5800x3d which throttles at 90c. I've clocked temps up to 86c in very very demanding games where my GPU becomes a radiator. How much cooler would something like the Phantom Spirit be in degrees? Then again, the repaste will probably drop me a few by itself.

>The big three display glass and panel manufacturers (BOE, CSOT, and HKC) have sent strict notices to display brands regarding aggressive panel price increases. Major OEM suppliers like KTC have publically stated that global component inflation and AI-memory chip shortages mean they can no longer absorb the manufacturing costs. Major brands like AOC, Philips, and LG are gradually raising retail prices to preserve margins.
Monitor prices are going to go up unless you suggest major brands like LG or Samsung can absorb the costs.

If you want to improve the performance & reliability of the 14700K, you need to be comfortable with undervolting the CPU, and running all the lengthy stability tests.
They run pretty power inefficiently out of the box (used to own one).
Most 14700K should be able to handle at least 50~80mV undervolt (negative adaptive offset).
Board manufacturers added "Intel Default" profiles in their updated BIOS, add the -50~80mV CPU undervolt to that profile.
Dig through the CPU overclocking settings to set a 1.35V maximum core voltage limit.

5800X3D is the better choice if you play games that greatly benefit from the VCache, and if you can't be bothered with the 14700K BIOS changes.

My whole motive for considering a 14700K was under the assumption I could get the thermals and power under control by using every tuning trick available through power limits, voltage control, load line calibration, and so on while at least matching the 5800X3D in gaming, and beating in in everything else for a similar price. In particular I wanted to see what I could do locking it to the same clock speed or disabling the estrogen cores, as my system is generally a low wattage one with my undervolted Ryzen and 5070 probably accounting for 200w combined under load at most. The higher single core IPC also just appeals to me though I'm unsure how much of it is a mirage hamstrung by the cache bottleneck.

I just found I did not need it or a 5090 and that they and the PSU and intel i7 14th gen shit annoyed me and stressed me more than any gain they gave me in anything I was actually doing. I found the same with the 5080 I decided to drop back to an i5 14th there was no point in having anything more than a 3060 12GB as you just wind up with bottlenecks. I have a i7-14700t in a drawer I have not bothered to play with yet but I will probably put it in a machine with a 5060 16GBb that is also in the drawer. You will call me a cunt but gave away the 5080 and 5090 and the i7K with dire warnings never to leave the PC running unattended or fall aseep in it and to put a smoke alarm near a fan outlet they cost me nothing anyway). have a FLIR cam on my phone and I knew they were shit after a couple of months. The problem is modular PSU cables as a principle to begin with, it is fucking dumb. Going to be a lot of angry people in a year now 5070s are spreading out. Probably a few dead people too. I'm only doing low wattage PSU builds and retro builds from now on and focusing on keeping them cool and running like smooth butter. I have been accused of being a low functioning autist but I am far worse I am exactly average in everything. If you have to get a 50xx get a 5060ti 16GB.

14700K has the better main 8 cores, 5800X3D has the VCache.
It's fine to get the 14700K if you know what you're getting into.
You won't lose much performance if you get a bit lucky with the silicon lottery. My 14700K's IMC was rather trash though.
I used to have a 180W limit profile, didn't lose any gaming performance.

Could've gotten 34K r23 multithreaded score if I shut down some background tasks @ 180W limit.

"“But now what? Why, now comes my master, takes me right away from my work, and my friends, and all I like, and grinds me down into the very dirt! And why? Because, he says, I forgot who I was; he says, to teach me that I am only a nigger! "

the 14700k/14900k have less market relevance than the 285k, 225f, both which were featured in these graphs?

To give Steve the benefit of the doubt, he may have omitted those CPUs since the degradation issues reduced their demand.

those cpus are still produced and sold today and sell more than arrow lake
https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/raptor-lake-is-a-core-part-of-the-portfolio-for-years-to-come-says-intel-theres-been-a-sudden-inrush-of-demand-for-lga-1700-chips-due-to-ddr5-prices
>>
>>110068058
A 250K Plus being barely ahead of the 14700K isn't a good picture.
>>
Explain to me why degradation would be a problem for the 14700K if I would immediately apply the microcode update on top of enforcing a strict bios voltage limit of something like 1.4V and a 142w power limit
>>
>>110068052
You can consider that the 13&14 gens were raped and gaped by degradation catastrophe that caused permanent damage to intel as a brand.
You wouldnt ever consider telling anyone to buy those used for example.
They had an overlapping issue of insanely poor power efficiency vs amd.
AMD had years of gaming supremacy with x3d by the time 14xxx cpus came out. You would never buy intel for gaming.

Now 270k gen is fine enough, but the focus is for multicore productivity apps, while they suffer from ddr5 pricing issues and being a dead end platform so people dont really buy them in large numbers.
>>
>>110068063
That's because people with DDR4 memory have practically no incentive to buy overpriced DDR5 kits.
Lets hope those ppl update the BIOS at the very least.

>>110068067
It wouldn't be a problem in that case.
>>
>>110068064
considering its not really gaming oriented its fine
>>
>>110068067
Intel bad so the chips are impossible to fix and untrustworthy long term is literally the core reasoning.

Nevermind the melting 7800x3ds or dying 9800x3ds, that is zero indication of long-term reliability because it is who you are supposed to be buying.
>>
>>110068073
>AMD had years of gaming supremacy with x3d by the time 14xxx cpus came out. You would never buy intel for gaming.
the 12900k matched or was faster than the 5800x3d in gaming

am4 was mega popular platform for its long support period, and x3d boosted the popularity. Intel meanwhile required you to buy new mobo after 2 cpu gens.
Then 7800x3d was in a league of its own

kinda moot tho when lga 1700 CPUs are still going to be made

well im kinda unclear what the point of the discussion now is
that am4 isnt a popular platform with unparallelled longevity?
>>
>>110068169
The point of the discussion originally was performance, you somehow changed it to popularity and “market relevance”.
>>
>>110068175
yes thats a given
intel is horribly irrelevant due to the decisions company leadership made past decade
>>
Idk I think all these cpus are ridiculous. It doesn't really matter if one only gets 350fps while the other gets 500fps.
>>
>>110068169
You talk about longevity and bring up how a CPU can go into it's litearal contempary mobo.
By that logic any intel platform has the same upgradability when you can put an old as fuck CPU in an old as fuck mobo.

>>110068178
It would be one thing if all the tards actually did what they apparently like AMD for so much.
They don't tho
>>
>i don't care about a 42.86% improvement in fps
>>
>>110066807
sure if you have clearance, that's why it's open on the end, so you can put a x16 card in the slot despite it being limited to 4 lanes.
older optiplexes used to goop you there with a pcie 3.0 x4 slot on top with a pcie 2.0 16x slot on bottom.

>>110067120
downgrade to 8gb single channel ram and make bank selling everything above that.

>>110067177
I don't even know if even DDR3 ramspeeds are a bottleneck even now, largely it's the speed of cpu's that support it that's an issue.

>>110067386
There's literally an i9 for that gen but sure, it's not a bad chip.

>>110068064
The current gen i5 being on par with the last gen's i7 is kind of just normal.
>>
>>110068204
Any improvement above 120fps, I can't tell a difference
>>
>>110068192
>Idk I think all these cpus are ridiculous. It doesn't really matter if one only gets 350fps while the other gets 500fps.
>>
>>110068222
you won't say that in a few year. todays 120fps are tomorrows 60fps.
>>
You buy the best cpu you can afford so you have fewest issues
You never want to be cpu bottlenecked in games, any cpu tier higher is a massive qol improvement when it does happen.
You dont know how a particular app will run, theres no clear diminishing return point. Maybe a game becomes cpu reliant when you use a new tech like dlss upscaling and suddenly you're runnin the game with path tracing at 720p and cpu load goes up 3x
>>
Also a good cpu isn’t only an improvement in games, its an improvement in all aspects of computing. Hopefully one day Intel/Amd can provide something as incredible as the M series for single core.

No it eally stopped mattering beyond youtube grifters still running benmchs on something that did matter once. No one gives a shit once it gets above 80-100.
>>
>>110068231
I don't think so.
30Hz to 60Hz cuts frame time in half (from 33.3ms to 16.7ms), and going from 60Hz to 120Hz cuts it again (to 8.3ms). However, moving from 120Hz (8.3ms) to 144Hz (6.9ms) or 240Hz (4.1ms) offers a much smaller change in time per frame.

Beyond 120Hz it's just not that big of an improvement.
>>
>>110068178
>intel is horribly irrelevant
According to techtubers? They still run the consumer/server market.
>>
>>110068262
adding 42.86% to 60fps puts you at a comfy 85fps tho.

how cucked are micro atx mobos anyways?

Theres nothing you need intel for.
You can use amd, nvidia hardware just fine, intels absence would impact you zero no matter what you do.

Higher fps is irrelevant. The same fps between two machines can feel wildly different because they have different PC latency. A 9800X3D is updating data way faster than a 2600 even though they're both locked at 60fps.
>>
>>110068241
a i7 4970K with a 1080ti 11GB plays cyberpunk 2077 fine. Same for pretty much any other ganme worth playing. You are fooling yourself. Thhere may be uses for faster CPUs but gaming is a terrible example. An i7-4970k is 4.4GHz an i5-14400 is 4.7 GHz there is fuck all difference in practise for most gayming slop the GPU clock and VRAM and bandwdth matter more and beyond parlour ticks there has been very little actual processing iimprovement there when you strip out DSLSS and the meme that was raytracing. Most games are written around 1080 mid tier GPUs and processors between 4-5 ghz and use a few cores at most because that is the bulk of the market to sell to

You see cpu bound scenarios even if recent released
Witcher 3 remake has tough time in novigrad with a lot of npcs. Witcher 4 examples have assload on npc's in one place and thats cpu workload.
Stalker game had issues with npc ai
Unreal 5 games generally run smoother with better cpus, less time compiling.
