> Microsoft's newest software release for Linux is... Microsoft Defender for the Linux desktop. Microsoft Defender has been ported to Linux to "secure Linux desktops" with Microsoft acknowledging that "more developers begin to use Linux desktops" and thus bringing their security application and threat-protection product to Linux desktops to complement their prior ill-used Linux server support.>> Microsoft Defender has been ported to the Linux desktop to "secure Linux desktops" with Microsoft acknowledging that "more developers begin to use Linux desktops" and thus bringing their security application and threat-protection product
>>110071206it makes sense for those whore are new to loonixfamiliar and they know how to gui their way though itstupid to use otherwise>why dont they...takes time and majority will get confused

>>110071206Why not MacOS?
>>110071321It doesn't. Microslop does it just to spy on people.
So we now have MS Defender, EAC, EGS and Fortnite, all available on Linux, at about the same day. A coincidence? I don't think so.
>>110071350Now it just needs a good firewall with a GUI that doesn't look like something from 2003-era Linux.
>>110071359So like Little Snitch? They already support Linuxhttps://www.obdev.at/blog/little-snitch-for-linux/
>>110071206> you must pay m$ or else youll get viruses
>>110071206I mean it's better than upload everything to virus total I guess. The anti virus we had on Linux have been shit for years anyway.
>>110071206This makes me happy as an corpo IT drone. We have a bunch of computers made obsolete by the Windows 10 EOL, and I'd love to use them as single-function Linux boxes around the offices. Things like computers for video conferencing set ups or digital signage. Having Microsoft Defender EDR on them hopefully means I can get alerts when they fall behind on patches, rather than having to walk around check for myself....That's assuming the implementation is any good. I remember their "Microsoft Defender for Android" was only a fucking firewall. Fucking useless.
>>110071321Still need to scan shit if you share files with Windows machines tho
>>110071206it's microsoft/linux
>>110071206I would not call this migrating to Linux, I would just call this porting one of their spyware to Linux.
>>110071671If you trust Microsoft, that is.
>>110071206>Microjeet Saarfender>on Linuxkekbig tech apparently isn't even trying to hide their FOSS infiltration anymore
>>110071891>>110071868
At the enterprise level MDE has been on various distros (Ubuntu, AL2/23, etc.) for quite a while and is regularly used to satisfy control requirements in various security programs (Gov/FedRAMP, CMMC, NIST CSF, etc.)I guess this is just them rolling that out to more consumer level distros, but this is not really new

>>110071946jeet means victory
>>110071336>>110071695Who needs single machine targeting viruses when you can just compromise the entire supply chain and infect practically every single machine pulling updates from an official repo by simply hacking or stealing one single set of credentials from some random dev?
>>110071206You dumb retards with emotionally charged to Microsoft don’t know that Microsoft is the most cybersecurity invested software company on earth. Forget about the “le spyware antivirus” thing. Defender is so cohesive and powerful that it detects retarded binaries that leaks memory kills them and it has the best security signature update system on earth. Remember who discovered troon/lonixks backdoor? A Microsoft employee.
>>110071327In Apple world, unconventional virus treatments are favored
>>110072359it disables my pirated games and software .dll and .exes even when I specifically tell it not to, fuck that shit
>>110071206microsoft defender being available gave me permission to use linux on my work laptopthanks m$
Not needed when everything lives in /gnu/store/ and no one can just randomly open appimages
>>110071228If someone's new to Linux away from Windows the last thing they'll consider to be for them is something of MicrosoftThis is just ensuring they can keep data harvesting you if not in today's build them tomorrows
>>110072544Apple a day keeps the doctor away!
>>110072566This is why they did it. IT departments use defender enterprise because it is one of the cheapest options and it is already installed on windows machines. More people are switching to linux and M$ seems to be alright with that as long as you keep using their cloud products.
>>110071206Makes sense. They basically own Linux now via the Linux Foundation and cancer like systemd.
>>110073119Yup that's why all the whites left to BSD or Apple.Only Rust troons and larpers stayed with Troonix.
>>110073160Nobody with a brain left Linux to be surveilled by Apple. BSD maybe.
>>110073175BSD is not maybe, they exactly predicted that Linux will end up like this one day overtaken by homosexuals from MicroJeet because RedHat was smoking any corporate dicks. Yes BSD license is not perfect and they used it for bad things but at this very point you will feel safer using BSD then trooncoded Linux.
>>110073216Explains why they keep spamming that "cuck license" forced meme to deter people from abandoning the sinking ship.
>>110073275yes and what is worse they are planning even more Rust additions... for fuck sake.
>>110071312Just dual boot or run your work os on a vm.
>>110071385>Little Snitch for Linux is not a security tool. eBPF provides limited resources, so it’s always possible to get around the firewall for instance by flooding tables
>>110073292Fuck man I wish I had friends like you IRL who actually have enough of a pattern recognition ability to see this obvious shit.
>>110073324It's only when you get older and your favorite things turn to shit you start seeing patterns... sadly that's not truth for most people since in modern society you can survive even if you are eating total shit. IRL i have only one friend like this... but he is not doing computers but cars but oh boy he be bitching about new cars constantly since he has to fix them kek.
>be winchad>DO LITERALLY NOTHING>live rent free in every freetard permavirgin's head as they post 99% of windows related threads on /g/ and seethe every second of their incel lives at winchads simply existinggod it feels good making lincels seethe without lifting a finger
>>110073356Cant blame him. Modern cars are even worse than what we have to deal with here.
>>110073292suddenly all the cultism makes sense...I remember when they were bloating distros so hard, you'd start wondering what's even the difference between it and MS. They'd explicitly appeal to mobile and no one mentioned how weird that was.
>>110071206Link or it's fake.
>>110073420Yeah you have to buy licenses for separate car models and they are not cheap if you want to fix them and only thing that license does is allow you to connect to the computer inside of car and if you want tools too you have to pay extra. Fucking hell >>110073433It will get way worse since now they decided to drop support for older hardware too like drivers are going bye, bye.
>>110071287For a decade and a half, yeah.
>>110073433It's even worse anon. Some people suspect Rust might be backdoored with a Thompson-style "tRusting tRust" malware because it compiles itself. By definition there is no way to prove it but if true it sure would be convenient if everyone adopted such a language.
