Since we had a thread about DS knockoffs
Lets have a thread about the real best and most soulfull handheld of all time
Emuboxes can never compare
>>

3.7 MB JPG
It is simply not possible to construct a device with such soul and build quality anymore.
>>
does vita have knockoffs? I only know it was popular in japan because of all the eroge
>>
>>110077657
Moqi i7s
>>
Some say the dpad is great, but it's too small in my opinion. mgba somehow ran slower than on my PSP. Maybe it's better now.
>>
I can't even get one now since TikTok drove the prices up. I'm stuck with a PSP-1001 I got new at launch.
>>
>>110077657
rg vita but they fucked it up as usual, no oled, no microswitches, no front speakers
>>
>>110077646
i prefer the 2000
the screen on the 1000 really isn't that good, it's heavier, has a proprietary usb port, and the glossy glass finish ends up all smudgy
>>
Crazy how the oval shape is uncomfortable for long game sessions.
>>
>>110077646
It's a beautiful machine. I have others toys for emulation, but it handles most older systems pretty well.
>>
>>110077657
GPD's win 4 takes some design cues from vita and og psp but it's not really a straight knock off.
>>
>>110077646
I prefer the PSP
>>
>>110077646
It will never make sense to me how this failed. A PSP on steroids should have taken over the world.
>>
>>110077646
As much as I love the ports being done with the system, especially with AI speeding up the process, the system is still ultimately a PlayStation machine (PS1, PSP, and Vita)
The 3G version is the pinnacle of that device.

>>110078737
No hit titles and memory card prices/ limitations. And I love that device enough to have about 150 physicals.
>>
I really regretted choosing the Vita over the 3DS. The games were mediocre, and it wasn't until some time later that indie titles and Japanese games really took the lead, Monster huneter was nintendo exc and I played PSP versions on Vita.
Uncharted was mid, Killzone was impressive but also mid. Tearaway was cool but at the end I played mainly PSP games and jRPGs
The OLED screen on the Vita is arguably still one of the most beautiful displays I’ve ever seen; at the time, I owned a Samsung Galaxy S5,a flagship phone and its screen quality was laughable compared to the PS Vita’s.

Hurensohn.

>The 3G version is the pinnacle of that device.
Part of me wonders if Sony missed a chance by not giving it phone functionality, like letting it call, text, and partnering with Line to have a version of the app on it
>>
>>110077646
My PSVITA basically shit the bed because the store wouldnt connect had to do the retarded re-connect and all my saves are completely fucked. I'm going to mod it. Do you know what the most complete mod is? i fucking hate sony. fuck them!
>>
>>110078914
They didn't want to cannibalize their gaming phone that came out a few years earlier.
>>
>>110078940
https://vita.hacks.guide/ this is the best place to start. New and better things came out since I did mine.
>>
>>110078983
I sort of get that, but I feel that from a business standpoint they could healthily coexist, one's a phone that can somewhat game, and one's a game console that (in the world I'm suggesting) can sort of do phone stuff
>>
>most soulful
You mean the original psp, you probably weren't even alive
>>
>>110077646
how do i fix the gpu crash
>>
I only had vita for a year cuz there's only like 10 games worth playing and the rest is just vn japslop
>>
>>110079248
Vita > PSP. Having used both I can tell you that the PSP was great for it's time but Vita can do everything a PSP can do (except optical media and easy user replaceable batteries) just as well and it does more with a better screen.
>>
>>110078914
No one would ever use it as an actual phone, it'd be the taco but even worse.
Plus the usual nightmare of releasing a phone in the US
>>
>>110079283
I'd get it if it was the PSP era, but by the time the Vita released, most people already barely called, it was mostly texting (and chat apps, which are just more advanced texting), which wouldn't be taco talk tier. Your second point is stronger though, I can see that
>>
>>110079276
>newer device has better tech
wow
psp had better games
a better design
a better size
a better interface
tv outputs
better placed headphone jack
it also sold better because of those because people actually wanted it
>>
>>110079309
But your phone which you always have on you already do all of this better.
Didn't stop them from releasing skype and twitter for it though.
>>
>>110079248
>psp
>soul
A single analog stick gameplay is pure unfiltered dogshit btw. Never understood why people tolerated that shit
>>
>>110077974
>>110078584
>>110077734
Nobody refers to these handheld emulation machines as "knockoffs".
>>
>>110079313
>psp had better games
Not a single one of them cannot be played on the Vita.
>a better design
The second analog stick alone put it over the top.
>a better size
You got the baby hands.
>a better interface
What do you mean by interface?
>tv outputs
As if I ever cared about going from a nice widescreen LCD display to composite analog video output that looks like ass.
>better placed headphone jack
This is the most minor of complaints.
>it also sold better because of those because people actually wanted it
I only ever knew two people who had them when I lived in the United States. After moving to the Philippines they were everywhere. The device hit different for poor kids. Second hand Japanese units were easy to come by. Piracy was easy. It was even more popular here than the classic DS/R4 combo.
>>
>>110079343
>fps baby
gtfo
>>
>>110079360
>You got the baby hands.
nigger i had one when i was like 12 and i used it for many years. it was a device for children. it had the perfect size to fit in my pocket.
>>
>>110079361
The Vita allowed me to map the left and right triggers in Megaman Legends to the right analog stick allowing me to move the camera. That automatically made it one of the best handheld devices I have ever used.
>>
>>110079325
Sort of, but it's like multitools where one specific tool takes center stage, it caters to diff lifestyles, a SAK is better as a knife than a Leatherman, and a Leatherman is better as pliers than a SAK (also, neither of these are as good as an actual knife or actual pliers). Someone buying this would appreciate all the features, but primarily cares about gaming. Then again, the market maybe isn't there and I'm talking out of my ass, most people seem to be satisfied with the pliers (gaming) in most devices, and despite every reviewer hyperfocusing on the knife (camera), any device that tries to actually improve the camera with things like optical zoom seems to have flopped hard
>>110079343
Not every game needs dual analog, specially the types of games that are a good fit for a handheld format (Like JRPGs, racing games and puzzle games)
