I spam fagman jobs all the time only to be rejected every single time for over a year and now I get an online assessment in 4 days due, out of fucking nowhere.
I am employed. I don't have time to grind fucking leetcode. Now I have to call in sick to my job, only to fail this shit.
Any tips?
Bah fuck you all I'll look it up. Fucking shit cunt fag shit fuck.

Does anyone else deal with a manager who always finds something to criticize you about despite you being a senior? He seems to always think I'm not doing any of the soft skills correctly. Yet I'm always doing them outside his vision with other people across the company. For some reason, me not reacting on slack to messages or posting just little things that has nothing to do with my current work is considered bad. He also thinks I need to show my skills more when we have too much shit to do to be worrying about trying to fix everything. This guy is really giving me a lot of shit for things that are a waste of time.

He says he's going to have follow up meetings with me to give feedback on if Im improving or not. I can't ignore him. He's clearly looking to push me to "improve" actively. I dont know why, Im doing work as is. But he doesnt like that Im not engaging enough despite me being too damn busy with my actual engineering to do what he wants from me. He doesnt even code himself.
>>
>>110081588

They're LinkedIn business school brained lemmings this is the only thing they know how to do and the only way he can feel like he's your superior
>>
>>110081588
Unfortunately, he's playing the game.He wants you visible because he's seeing positive feedback from the top when people post their team's "press releases".

1. You don't have to like it, but ignore it at your own peril. Some VP of your department may get a visit from the Good Idea fairy and they just lay off anyone who hasn't posted (yes c-suiters can be this stupid)
2. A good manager would be your own team's hype man, and he should be asking you for your change log/releases so HE can make those posts for you.
>>
>>110081853
Our manager is very lazy. He expects us to take on most of his responsibilities. And he's nothing like a hype man. He almost feels like he's there to make sure we don't go wild more than actually being a member of the team. In a sense, he feels like a security guard. And all he does with us is just tell what to do and not to do in his eyes. But he never gets into the technical weeds cause he doesn't know as much as we do. I show my quality through my work yet he keeps not being able to see that despite my reports I give on something fixed or found.
>>
>>110081874
If you're the senior lead, pull him aside for a lunch and tell him this, just politely. Sucks, but it's your job to manage upwards and take the hit for your guys.

Do not do this in front of ANYONE else on the team. Go to lunch or somewhere away from the rest of the team. Ask him for what he wants from you, and then come back with your counter offer of what the team needs from him.
>>
>>110081939
we're all remote
>>
>>110081949
Welp... Not optimal, and probably explains his management style. Does he do 1-on-1s? Because if not, you're going to have to schedule your own meeting, and those always suck.
>>
>>110081976
He does, and I hate them cause all he does is go

>you could be doing this better

Im like

>have you seen how many projects Ive finished and initiatives Ive led and customers Ive talked to?

Apparently he has not, but it's not my job to be doing what he's suppose to do. Which all it would take is for him to stalk my messages across Slack.
>>
>>110081991
Have your clanker compile a list of what you did and show that to him
>it's not my job to blabla
Irrelevant, it would be beneficial for you to show this to him
>>
>>110081991
Just fire of a summary DM to him at the end of every day then. He should be getting this from the damn scrum.
>>
>>110082012

>I havent seen it

>>
>>110082032

>>
>>110082056
We have standups every other day. We also have them between each other (the devs). I personally think we dont need him as a manager. We're self functioning as is.
>>
>>110082067
Dunno about that one, chief. If you're already doing his work for him, then just open the PM dashboard, setup the automated daily progress tracker, and put him in the recipients field.
>>
>>110082116
thats the thing, he does look at our tickets. we literally have a board of all our tasks in each progress. He literally sees during standup what we're all doing.
>>
>>110082135
Okay, so he just wants the summary email. You're a strong independent developer. Automate that shit. We've spent enough time detailing the problem here that a local model could have already written a bash script to use curl to do this for you in that time.

CC it to his manager, by accident, until he brings it up.

>>110083522
How do you get rent that low? I had to go to torotten to make 100k, rent was 2600.
>>
>>110083573
It's because a lot of these companies have a lot of investments in commercial real estate, that and or they get a bunch of tax breaks for having such offices in the city to stimulate the local economy.
>>
>>110083704
I live in Ottawa. Found my current place in 2019 for 990/mo. Land lard always applies to increase rent above the guideline max (3.4% usually)

There is nothing else lower than $1800 unless its a single bedroom, and even then, those go for around $1000

How the hell do poor people with incomes under $55k even survive these days?

Even you can barely save money with that kind of rent. 100*. 75-(12*2600)=43k after tax and rent. Probably much less, like $35k because of other tax. Then other living expenses eats away the rest

i would bet like half of people in cities are on some sort of subsidized apartment shit.

in the city im from its extremely expensive and most jobs dont pay enough to live. the immigrants there arent even legally allowed to work for 2 years upon arrival but they all have cars and apartments.
something like a quarter of all units built there are required to be low income housing.

its great really, if youre just willing to live in a shelter or family you can just get on a housing list where you basically make the same income as someone at 70k while stocking shelves because of the subsidized unit being mandated to 1/3rd of income. you are allowed to keep those units until 80k usd income.

Fuck this guy, and be smart about how you destroy his argument totally. Sit in a meeting and make him define what exactly constitutes improvement, down to the specific actions you need to take and when. So if he wants you to put a thumbs up on a teams chat, he needs to tell you how long you have to acknowledge that. Like, exactly what soft skills does he want you to improve on? He needs to define that and give you something achievable and reasonable, other wise it's just vague emotions and feelings.

I had a manager do this to me while I was lead of a huge team. He ended up wasting alot of my time and making my day more stressful with lots of reocurring meetings and forcing me to have reocurring meetings with members of other teams. overall it lead to a drop in my productivity and drop in code quality, or in other words are starting making more mistakes on the technical side which was then used to discredit my technical ability.

I am not sure what is the right move but I wish I had just told him that I have ZERO interest in being a manager ZERO interest in soft skills and to BACK OFF or I will find another job somewhere else.

Instead, I eventually got cut in a mass layoff.

My soft skills were actually pretty good before he started all that bullshit and in retrospect I se how the whole thing was a setup to get me to underperform on the technical side so that they could break up my team and layoff me and 2/3 of my team.

Hard disagree. I've had the expereince of good and bad PMs. A good PM understands how and especially when to manage requirements when speaking to stakeholder before dev hits the room, AND enough familiarity with the platform and the balls to not need a dev to hand hold them when making estimations.

Given unrealistic requirements, a bad PM says "yes". An honest one says "no". And a good one says "no, but how about..."

Grass always looks greener on the other side. Imagine having no queue. Imagine your company is so disorganized that you're left to do nothing but review MRs and make busy work for dozens of hours every week.
It might sound nice to have a quiet week but it's actually maddening after a while. 10 minutes feels like 2hours by the end of the day. I would take a packed week 100 times before I took this fate.

Almost sounds like the polar opposite of my manager. Very soft spoken. Can barely speak to people in fact. Never tells us what to work on, mostly because of bottlenecks out of his control. Is always in the weeds, stares at MRs for hours until he finds a bug you never would have thought of in a million years or thinks of a better way to do things you never would have thought of, yet I have never seen him do more than a couple tickets himself. Definitely doesn't feel like a hype man, but doesn't feel like a security guard. Feels like he's there because no one else would do it and he offends no one, although I worry he's going to either burn out or our team is never going to grow because we don't have a strong leader pushing for change outside of our personal technical abilities.

> But ... But OpenAI is not profitable!
Listen faggots:
Step 1. Vibecoders and SWEs train the models and even pay to do that.
Step 2. The models become so good that they can fully replace a senior SWE
Step 3. They raise prices. Are you paying $100 a month? Prepare to pay now $15 000 a month. You say what? It won't work? Consider this: when AI becomes the engineer, running its own test suites, refactoring legacy subsystems, a project which historically required a team of three senior developers six months to complete, an AI lab can charge to execute it autonomously in an afternoon.

No more SWE jobs but also no more vibe coding either. Thanks for playing and paying.
>>
>>110095817
Vibecoders can't code so they're just training the model to make code worse than jeets ever made. Swes don't train models, they either don't use them or they automate the whole workflow and don't even know what's going on because fuck management for forcing AI down everyone's throat. They get what they deserve.
The models are still not good enough to replace the worst jeet. "2 more weeks" for 4 years straight does not cut it.
You are right that the day AI can, in fact, perform tasks faster than skilled devs, $1000 a month would be a possible price point. Not much than that, though, as jeets would remain far cheaper.
>>
>make code worse than jeets ever made

So my coworker (indian) kept saying shit about our boss for being white, I (black) actually love the guy but this coworker wouldn't stop shit talking about how the guy is useless, that we should get rid of him, etc. Meanwhile my boss (the white dude) kept telling me how much he likes the coworker (indian) so I said fuck it and actually told him the truth eventually, he was devastated but also very thankful, and even said some other had approched him and told him something similar, ok I thought that was it and I could move on. NOPE. Seems by boss (white) talked with his boss (indian) and now I have a meeting with him (indian) about the matter. Now you might think, "just because they are both indian doesn't mean they will team up", but the coworker (indian) and bosses' boss (indian) go way back before either me or my boss joined. Am I fucked? Like what the hell

Trying to find a new job but i get totally filtered by HR somehow.

Im applying only to relevant positions and get interviews every week. They tend to ask basic question like tell me about yourself, behavioural shit and then ask do you know tech x or y, like do you know how to use cicd. Which i always tell yes, and im not even lying or trying to inflate anything. Then they ask about pay and if im willing to go on site 2-3x week that i also say yes.

I dont know what to do or wtf im doing wrong. I go to reddit and people have 10x higher pass rate. Like they interview 20 times and are sent to next round in 10 of these. It is easier in case you always fail the technical interview, just sit down and study but what to do in my case?

I'm a UI/UX designer in a big tech company. We were a team of 12 and recently 11 got fired. I'm the only one left there because of my interest in AI, new technologies, etc. Mostly using git copilot now in visual studio with Claude and it kinda does everything I did in a year now in a week lmao. The whole wireframing part (that we now could even skip honestly), then the UI part. AI is kinda shit doing really good visual design in that field so I do some designs first and it uses those as reference. 90% of my work consists of prompting and reviewing the results now. It's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago we were just a normal design department spending all day in figma and building UI libraries.

>Europoor in automotive embedded sw at big corp
In the two years I've been here, I have written hardly any code. Is this normal? They hired me as a C dev, but all I do is internal process stuff - collecting reports, minor doc updates, starting various pipelines when this and that condition is met, wrangling Jira, etc.

The team is chill, both scrum master and manager always assure me I'm doing well, pay is good (for my cunt), I'm full remote, it should be the dream job.

But I have not created anything or learned any transferable skill. I'm worried that I'm becoming institutionalized at this corp, and unemployable anywhere else.

1) It's in one of the lowest cost of living towns in the state, I was remote and living out of a vehicle before this and would have been PISSED if I had to RTO at my last company
2) There are literally two female employees in the entire company, neither of whom work in my department. Me and my coworkers make sexist, racist jokes all the time and no one gets in trouble.
3) We're actually allowed to do work and not just fucking around with Jira all day.

Just don't attend the meetings. You will gain infinite Izzat with them and worship you as a brahmin
>>
you have to learn to tame the jeets to be able to work in tech, in some ways you will need to adopt elements of their culture. you are the brahmin and they are the dalit, and you absolutely cannot do the work of a dalit. otherwise they will offload every single part of their job onto you
if they ask for help for something, you have to obstruct them at every turn
>they give you a support ticket they "need help with"
they didnt do a good enough job investigating the issue, give it back to them and tell them to do more
>they come back again afterwards
tell them to read the docs first and write down what they tried, then come back if it still doesnt work
>they come back
ask them to document what they tried (they didnt do anything so this will take some time for them to go back and do what you told them to last time)
>back again
now you can finally start investigating whatever the issue was. however you can absolutely not fix it for them, when you identify how to fix the problem, you tell them what to do and make them do it
you need to treat every interaction with them like this or they will trample over you. treating them like you would a fellow westerner is basically showing servitude to them and you become the dalit

>spent months unemployed learning proper software engineering practices, how to not do shit incorrectly, how to not build applications with loads of technical debt
>had so many moments when I was like "holy shit I should've done that differently at my last job"
>every ticket that gets assigned to me is like "so we have this huge software limitation because of some massive technical debt issue, and now it's failing in this edge case, fix it without breaking a million other things"
>codebase is filled with tons of terrible decisions I made at my last job, except now it's at the industrial scale
>shit like updates to a database rewrite the entire entry instead of adding / removing the change

I agree, but I can't concentrate in light mode. I used to be with light-grey mode for coding as well but I eventually switched.

AI will replace dev work but it won't be a transformer based language model and it won't be this decade. Exactly when it will happen is hard to predict as further technological breakthroughs are needed. When it happens you're fucked too by the way. Enjoy competing with all the smart while collar people getting laid off for your minimum wage janitor job lol
>>
I'm amazed by Amazon's unique ability to see another company do something and then get absolutely raped and shat on only to proceed to do the exact same thing. They introduced a new mandatory AI application that's supposed to be run 24-7 that "learns how you work" like Meta. It fucking reads all your emails and slack messages including DMs, with no way to stop it. I tried to add some kind of hard instructions to stop it from reading DMs at least and for emails, HR/Medical check/Salary related shit and it feigned agreement that it will never read them again only for it to add a feed created by a DM by my manager a day later.
I watched it walk in circles as it tried to explain how he got access to this information that's only in my DMs with the usual "you are right to push back on this". The whole thing was triggered initially because one of coworkers sent me a joke message saying he wants to die, only for the AI to create an urgent task and spam remainders that the guy is about to kill himself and asked me to call emergency services, kek.
>>
>>110115025
Call emergency services anyway, get the guy some free forced holidays.
>>
So how exsctly do you maintain 30000 PRs per day in one codebase?
>>
>>110114259
looking forward to that
>>
>>110115025
the only way to stop this is to create a cronjob that sends anonymous messages like "i know you are selling customer data" to the people responsible for this
>>
>black coworker calls me cracker

Does FAGMAN just not hire software engineers anymore? I keep applying to senior and mid level swe positions with 10 yoe and all the experience requirements met and I've never gotten even an initial recruiter screening call with any of them. I followed all the advice on how to get past the ATS filter, added metrics and everything to my resume, but still have zero success with these companies.

I want to port my vibecoded internal app from J1 into J2. I exported my codebase clandestinely ont o my own pc and asked my own claude to make a design doc of it which I will get the J2 clanker to use to rebuild the app. Is there any chance I will get caught?

how to fight the tidal wave of slop destroying the codebase? asking for a friend
>>
>>110119639
what do you gain from fighting it and what do you lose from embracing it? The AI craze is great, management is literally incentivizing lazy work. Just do things by hand from time to time to not let your skills atrophy, possibly on a hobby project in your free time and not on corposlop
>>
>>110119656
>what do you lose from embracing it?
nobody buys our slop and the company goes under and I become homeless?

Oh wait, all the fucking companies are using AI so I guess all of them are going to go bankrupt?
