Why is light mode so despised amongst millennials and zoomers
>>110087911It's bad
>>110088003Yeah, about that. Not shocking considering many jeets are into blacked.
>>110087911It hurts your eyes looking at a bright screen for a long time, and simply turning down overall brightness makes it hard to see things. There's a reason monochrome monitors defaulted to bright text on a dark background, and CLIs still use a color scheme along those lines.
>>110087911it used to be less fluorescent, probably because screens were not led or something
Burns out my OLED pixels
they are tech illiterate therefore completely unaware of brightness settings
I have tried using dark themes on my phone and PC for years. I recently got an OLED and tried again and I can’t. It strains my eyes when reading text and dark themes are just uglier in my opinion. I feel like an edgy teenager when turning it on
>>110087911It reminds me of windows 7 without aero. It's dogshit and hurts my eyes.
>>110087911I didn't care, and then server 2012 had the most horrendous headache inducing contrast ever and it was a decade until it was completely phased out, and now every app and desktop has a imitating headache theme and a emo theme and I'll do anything to not have my bullshit system not induce headaches
>>110087911I really love the blue theme for visual studio (which they got rid of in 2026) since it's nostalgic. But I just can't use it, it hurts my ass too much.
dark mode never works right, not worth it
>>110087911Screens have gotten brighter.
>>110088113>There's a reasonYeah, price, nigger. Now stop fetishizing things from the time you weren't even born. Are zoomers so weak even their little beady eyes suck?
>>110089127>Are zoomers so weak even their little beady eyes suck? The only people who've never complained to me about 8pt text were zoomers and late millenials
Bright screens and light mode are fine if you use your computer in a well-lit room.
I just use whatever looks nice. But let it be known that majority of designers can't into bright color schemes.>>110089127Get _your_ eyes checked.
I was dark mode only for a decade until I moved and now I have a large window next to my desk. Light mode is really nice when you have natural light coming into the room. Also made me realize how dark mode on phones during the day is stupid. I found a light theme I like in KDE and got AI to match my phone theme to it.
>>110087911Light mode:>like looking at a fluorescent light>hostile>the default choice of NPC's and typical wageslave office workDark mode:>cozy>aesthetic>the choice of actual human users
>>110087911Because for some fucking reason every theme past 2015 has GRAY instead of BLACK text on a white background.
>>110087911Both are good. Maybe your OS just sucks.
>>110091128i've also noticed white themes are worse than they used to be, like they really just want everyone to move to a dark theme so they don't need to maintain two themes
Dark mode is bad for your eyes. It actually cause substantially more eye fatigue than light mode. I can't believe the goyim got tricked into using it. Funniest thing since standing desks.
>>110091173it's for phone zombies who can't keep away from screens at night
meanwhile me, an intellectual
>>110091189automatic light/dark mode is the only right option
>>110091128Gray is easier on eyes than black on the white background. Except it's supposed to be a very dark gray, basically black but not exactly kind of gray. Not the shit low contrast gray everyone use for some fucking reason.
I'm racist so I only use light mode.
>>110087942You need to go back.
>>110093889do you not drink coke, pepsi
>>110087911I use light theme and make the zoomers and morons seethe every time they see my screen when I present something at work. Always worked to filter out script kiddies, because if they feel so strongly on this they can't be serious.
>>110093933crystal pepsi obviously
>>110087911Because light mode looks like total garbage. Light vs dark is a false dichotomy that only exists in modern UI design. UI used to be grey.
>>110087911Screens are brighter now.
>>110095302Brightness toggle exists, zoom zoom.
>>110087911first time ever hearing about dark mode before it wss widespresd was in after effects, guess it was a film maker thing
>>110095672All pro tools use dark or neutral themes.Light themes are for papaer pushing office drones
>>110087911>Why is light mode so despised amongst millennials and zoomersI prefer light mode when its daytime and dark mode when my wife is asleept. millennial
>>110087911>light mode user
>>110088614>WindowsFound your problem
>>110088614>>110096059W11 26H2 has everything in dark though. Maybe it's time to update your things.
Having a black background when writing a document or an email feels wrong to me
>>110096151Yeah, there's no way I'm installing that spyware.
>>110091173>Dark mode is bad for your eyesNo evidence for this btw.
I was fired from my last job for being an /white/ theme user
>>110088027the only people i know irl who use light mode are indian cs profs and students
>>110087911There can't think for themselves.>>110088113That had just to do with bad screens.
>>110088134white text on black background is peak OLED UI
>>110087911if you spend any extended time in front of screen, you just fucking know zoomer phone fag
>>110087911Get an HDR screen, poorfag, and find out for yourself.
>>110097331I have an OLED and I still use light themes because I have an astigmatism
>>11009615126H2, dark mode, run winver. Window is light mode.
I only use white themes.Dark mode is niggerlicious.
>>110095672>>110095693They used to be gray (Picrel, Photoshop 4), proper dark mode was a later thing, although like >>110088113 argues, pretty much every text OS boots into a black screen with white text (or whatever other color your monochrome monitor was).
cause light mode went from grey and beige to actual #FFFFFF blinding garbage
>>110097700i remember when it was light/dark themes rather than white/black themes
>>110096151yea ill get right on that
>>110087911Recently I've started to realize that light mode looks a lot better and might even be more functional than dark mode. The thing is that my eyes cannot stand it anymore. So I'll keep using dark mode.
>>110087911Because dumbass ui devs decided that light mode means that everything has to be kkk white instead of a balance of colors that are easy on the eye.
I like KDE Plasma's dynamic light/dark mode. I have mine set to change from light to dark around 8PM. It does make some programs look weird unless I restart them, like Libreoffice Writer.
I use dark themes on desktop and light themes on mobile.
>>110087911Went from greys and colours to blinding whitesLook at Irix or Windows 95, that used to be light mode and was the only mode.
dungs shits wen from greys and grays to blinding flashlight in ur irises. now is live in dark room no lites feva
>>110095693True. I keep dark mode everything except libreoffice
>>110087911I use both depending on the lighting conditions, like a normal human being.
Dark makes more sense on screens and should be the default.White was used to match paper prints. For many people early computers were just a way to print stuff. All their work was on paper and they had to send out paper letters or make presentations on paper. They wanted the screen to look like the final product.
I have an astigmatism in both my eyes so looking at dark mode all day gives me a headache from the eye strain. >B-But the light mode is blinding!Turn your brightness down a little or turn a light on
Every time I see people complaining about light mode on social media they’re usually a brownoid, mutt, foid or broccoli hair zoomer>Ay cuh you be using light mode? da fuq nih you weird diddy blud That alone makes me want to use light mode.
>light mode>gray mode (multiple tones, too)>dim mode (that bluish gray twitter used to have)>dark modeTell me why they can't just do this
>>110087911>Why is light mode so despised amongst millennials and zoomersI actually use time based theming, it makes the most sense, if you see any dark mode screenshot form me, you know why.
>>110104178People don't actually want multiple choices for most things. Dark Mode is already going to be niche, because most people leave things on default.Grey/Dim are going to barely be used.
It burns your eyes, plus now that all phones got oled displays, it reduces battery usage and somewhat prevents burn-in the the black zones.
>>110104820You're not really preventing burn-in, you're inverting the pattern. The main benefit is better preservation of overall brightness
My problem with dark mode is I can never get well and truly everything, especially on web sites, to support it. So there was always getting blasted by white light in a dark room randomly out of nowhere. So I switched to light mode everything, lowered the screen brightness to the lowest comfortable setting that still avoids reflections, and added (a little) light to the room. And that works much better for my eyes at least. Though sometimes when I am forced to view dark stuff I have to inch the brightness up a bit to compensate.
>>110087911it makes my eyes seethe
light themes used to be comfy, then they started making them solid #FFFFFF white, which people got sick of but instead of going back to comfy greys now we have equally eye-raping blacks instead
>>110091189i've always dreamed of games that do this with the in-game day and night cycle
>>110087911It's uncomfortable on the eyes and I'm grateful that it's become so widespread. I used to spend a lot of time experimenting with ricing Windows XP for it every time I reinstalled.
who decided that light mode is 4chan coded and dark mode is reddit coded?that's the only reason we can't have an actual discussion about it
>>110109112i haven't heard of that
>>110097684>>110097700A nice gray interface really made things look more soothing.
>>110088113and the reason was it was much cheaper, you fucking retard. Black-on-white were really fucking expensive (also generated a fuckton more radiation. you're too young to remember screen shields)
>>110097684>>110109194this trend should return
>>110087911Only modern light mode is universally hated because it's just plain blinding white. 9x, XP, Vista and 7 were more grey-ish easier on the eyes. But Windows natively had a dark theme with the Underwater theme from 95 Plus.
>>110109389you could do an actual dark theme on 9x easy. actually it technically came with one out of the box (coupled with giant text which could turn back down, because this was intended for people with poor eyesight... sorry zoomers), the High Contrast themes that are even older are like a modern dark theme, not to mention you used to be able to customise all the colours and programs almost always followed them
How about tan mode
