Has anyone switched to Windows after using Linux for like >10 years? If so, what were your reasons, and how did it go ?I’ve watched some Dave Cutler interviews and skimmed through the Unix Haters Handbook and I'm not sure Linux as a kernel is that good anymore but I don't know how it compares to Windows.
>>110092815Unironically Windows is a better OS than Linux, it's just that there's too much jeet bullshit in the environment now.
>>110092815I switched to only my outdated lineage os phone ever since my laptop ssd died a year ago. I fucking hate computers. No I don't want to spend 20€ to get a "new" one.No I won't get a job.
>>110092815The registry is still shit. 90s database mindset. Single point of failure, single point of just ugliness. You kind of have to stop caring about your system in order to get along with Windows.
>>110092815I've been using Linux since I got Ubuntu 9.10 from a CD that came with a magazine years ago. I've been using both the entire time. There are things I like about both and things I dislike about both, but it ultimately depends on what I'm doing.
>>110094183Genuine question. What do you like about Windows over Linux?T. Someone who switched to linux 8 years ago and has not looked back since.
>>110096653programs on Windows are irreplaceable
>>110092815Registry, 256 characer filepath limit. Ugly uncustomizable UI. Sucky multiple workspaces implementation. Garbage "store" for a centralized software repository. Often slower. Forced updates. Microsoft sends out breaking updates.Go ahead. Sounds great.
>>110092815i sometimes have to work with really high spec windows machines (for flight simulation). I find it embarrassing to use windows. I don't know how Microsoft are content with having 4 different types of UIs for different type of menus, so if i can't trust them to the make the UI consistent, how can i trust them that the OS is sound. Windows is such a disgusting clusterfuck and I am comparing it with wm i use that was last updated in 2016 and doesn't support floating windows. I had forgotten what it was like to use windows and it feels like somebody deliberately tried to make windows 10 worse. If i didn't know better I would have thought windows 11 is a parody of "modern software", especially that the start menu uses react native and skyrockets the CPU usage, literal definition of goyslop. My time on linux is far from good and AI now makes lots of commits to the kernel but still windows is so fuck bad its comical. Fucking goycattle
>>110093418There's no reason to hate the registry. It's an elegant solution, people are just bad at using it. Registry corruption hasn't been a thing since the 2000s btw
>>110092815so I use osx, linux and windows, since the 1980's.OSX, is my goto mainly because of the macbook pro 2015 15 inch of which I have 10 or so.I can buy these for about 200 - 300$ USD and thats with a 500gb ssd an 16 gb of memeroy and slap a new battery in for 50 - 70$.My best buy so far was a 50$ that just needed a new battery otherwise really good.It gives me redundancy and I can use OCLP if i want. Also I can triforce linux windows and OLCP if I want.I stated on the CL on DOS and apple IIe / C. Then went to windows, 95, sun sparcs a tuni, with mosiac and and 2000. Then XP, XP was a full time job reinstalling the OS every 3 month due to the shear amount of jank and bugs. Eventually I went to OSX and about ? os x leopard. Because it just werx.I am a mint machine and win 10 on my 5950x at hteh moment and use windows, mainly becuase it is easy to install any program I want. Linux is hit and miss. However I treat the windows machine as bugged, hacked an disposable OS.OSX is by far the best inmho. It just werx, and with homebrew etc it can do everything linux can do. Airdrop and Airplay are pretty good
