Have developers started optimizing their programs due to the RAM crisis yet
>>
>>110093241
yes they use rust
>>
claude, optimize the app
>>
>>110093241
No. My coworker just bought a coffee maker where the UI is rendered in react. It has a quad core SOC running hardware accelerated Chromium to draw a picture of a coffee cup on touch screen he can push to turn it on.

No. 99% of people who started doing software development in the past decade have very little understanding of how anything below the level of abstraction of their favorite framework operates. They can't optimize anything because they don't have any concept of what that means, much less what would be required of them. The 1% who do understand are filtered out by HR for giving the recruiters "the ick".

It's spread everywhere. There's a company near me that makes large industrial CNC machines. The UI is React because React developers are cheaper than QT developers. Seems ridiculous to cheap out on the control system interface of a machine that can kill people but they're relying on hardware interlocks to prevent that should the UI allow the user to enter a dangerous mode. For something that potentially dangerous, having just one line of defense is negligence but they wanted cheap programmers for that part of the machine. In their marketing materials they bend over backwards to assure customers that having a web interface on the machine does not mean it must be connected to the Internet. It's most babble about how fresh and modern the UI looks and how that can impress the customers of whoever buys their machines.

>The UI is React because React developers are cheaper than QT developers. Seems ridiculous to cheap out on the control system interface of a machine that can kill people
I don't understand how this is a problem. What difference does it make, specifically? It has to be ISA compliant either way.
>relying on hardware interlocks to prevent that should the UI allow the user to enter a dangerous mode
What does it have to do with how the UI is rendered?

I hate vibeslop as much as the next guy, but this is potentially a place where AI can shine. Claude can write optimized asm, though it takes it longer and it'd probably get lost trying to make an entire large project in it. But you could identify the most CPU and RAM intensive parts of a program and tell it to rewrite those parts in assembly.

On the other hand if the RAM wasting is coming from high level design decisions like caching all received packets and reparsing them at each step, it may not catch that unless you specifically tell it to do that differently.
>>
a rabid pack of front end reactjs devs sexually abused me in 2018 outside of a dashcon and I never forgave them
>>
>>110095631
LLMs suck at asm because of the low amount of training data.
>>
>>110095683
So doing anything new requires a human. Got it.
>>
>>110095715
>>110095683
you can task an LLM to rewrite some piece of code purely in a specific processor's machine op code right now wtf are you talking about
>>
>>110095715
>>110095729
You misunderstand the problems posed by low training data. That doesn't mean you can't do it but
>the LLM will take longer and consume more tokens as it will take it more tries in agent loops to come up with compilable code
>the resulting compilable code will be more bloated and spaghetti
Obviously LLMs can finish anything in any language because of the agent loop.

>>
>>110095631
>But you could identify the most CPU and RAM intensive parts of a program and tell it to rewrite those parts in assembly
That's not how it works. Writing parts of a program in ASM makes it more efficient only if the ASM itself is closer to optimal than what the compiler generates. Replacing 1,000 lines of compiler-generated ASM with 10,000 lines of LLM-generated ASM won't improve anything.

Dad must provide her first experience, if dad dies then responsibility falls on eldest living brother, if no living brother, responsibility falls on eldest living uncle. If no living uncle, then a husband must accept the mantle of providing her first.

90% of programmers these days have ZERO hardware knowledge and ZERO experience beyond the hyper abstracted programming interface and libraries. All they can do is stitch together libraries to do basic out-of-the-box tasks. Anything not handled by a pre-existing library is considered "impossible" (which is a hilarious thing to say with modern hardware and turing complete languages). Memory management and performance optimization are completely out of the question.

Maybe if you get someone with a 4 year comp sci degree or higher they might have some of this knowledge. But they are vastly outnumbered by bootcamp fodder, jeets with scam degrees, and self taught copy-pasters. And the ones that do know their stuff either become managers who don't write code or are working on close-to-the-metal non-consumer projects.

Unironically yes. I work for a major tech company (think Google scale) and I know of teams that are specifically optimizing their shit to consume less RAM. Think systems that you need large server clusters for
