Tired of the hivemind? Here’s your prescribed sanity dose:

>Crinacle is not your priest.
Rankings are a guide, not divine scripture. Your ears > his spreadsheet.

>Harman and JM-1 ≠ perfect.
It’s a preference curve, not a law of physics. Some genres need deviation.

>Chi-Fi isn’t magic.
Great value, yes. Immune to QC issues and hype cycles? Nope.

>Graphs are not sound.
They don’t show staging, dynamics, or fit. Use your ears, not just squigs.

>BA ≠ metallic, DD ≠ perfect.
Implementation matters more than driver type. Always has.

>Meme sets aren’t the whole hobby.
If it’s not shilled 24/7, it might still be good. It's highly encouraged to form an original opinion.

>Disagreeing ≠ cope or deaf.
Let people like what they like without foaming at the mouth.

>Loud posts =/= smart takes.
Confidence without experience is just noise. Show graphs, impressions, or both.

Better hope those pins don't snap. How are you liking the IEMs??
>>
>>110096371
They're great. Arete 2 is a perfect all rounder for me but Armor is really good for bass music (EDM especially DNB) which is my fave music. Arete 2 is no slouch there either though. If I had to pick one it would be Arete 2 just because it's more balanced and therefore more versatile (across not only genres but also for gaming/movies/videos). Btw don't mistake Arete 2 as just a gaming IEM. This thing is wonderful for everything.

Why would the pins snap? Those are the cables that came with them.

What's up bros. My Soundmagic E80 chinkbuds just died after 5 years of hard work. Big shame. Have about 40 dollars, maybe a bit more, to play with. Any super solid "must have" options in that price range? I researched a bit and keep seeing people creaming themselves over the OP22s. I guess those seem ok. Or is there some new release I should wait for? Or should I just go back to ol reliable?
Also kind of a pain in the ass that they died now instead of December or something where I can get good shopping deals.
>>
I'm at $1000 in Aliexpress coupons, coins, saver, voucher spent. Real money under $150.

Op22 are going to be very different from those. But so are most modern IEMs to be honest. Get zero ultima for something similar. An upcoming hype IEM is zero 3 but it's just zero 2 in a better shell, not super interesting.

there is lots of small catches there but in general yes. If you really want the best price, you have to wait for sales or coupons, collect coins, compare offers with audio stores that ship from China, and track price changes over time, because Chinese sellers often raise prices right before a sale.

>>110100176
Only way to get scammed there is to buy some kind of obscure offer, with price too good to be true or from new seller. Like I seen laptops for 1/5 of normal price, reviews were boted, 100% scam. In general with audio u should be good. I would not buy stuff like SD card, hard drives there, lots of scams with fake storage that don't exist or copies of well known brands. Quick impressions:
>Weiss Helios
Dynamic, fast, forward and aggressive. Helios is a very U-shaped sounding dac with great bass dynamics and slight “sparkle”.

Compared to Aqua La Scala MK2 (my 2nd fav dac), the Helios is way more technical and cleaner. As an ESS dac the Helios still has that idiosyncratic “ESS Glare” but it’s the most tolerable out of all the ESS dacs I’ve tried. Probably due to Weiss’ own proprietary OP2-BP op-amp.

I’ve posted my Weiss DAC204 impressions in the past and I was not a fan due to the “wall-of-sound” effect but I’m happy to say that Weiss’ higher tier offerings don’t suffer from the issue. However, Helios is not going to stage as wide as the likes of Rockna Wavelight, APL WR DSD, La Scala MK2 as it is intrinsically a forward and aggressive sounding dac (kinda like the Imersiv D-1).

>Allnic HPA-300B – Big sounding, warm and liquid with great dynamics (for a 300B amp).
I’m normally not a fan of 300B tubes, they have a bad rep for sounding mid-forward and muddy (an inverted U-shape sound). Cayin’s new HA-300 MK3 amp sounded exactly like this – lots of warm mud with substantial rolloff on both ends. Instead I was gonna buy the Viva 2A3 until I got invited to listen to the Allnic 300B.

Allnic breaks the mold of 300B amps by preserving great dynamics and technicalities without sacrificing either ends of the FR. In terms of warmth and tonality it sits right between the Allnic HPA-15k (cold and technical) and Allnic HPA-10k (warmth bordering on mud).

HPA-300B also manages to sound big with that 360-degree “back of the head” staging to it. It suffers in stage width but it manages to hit you with that 7.1 surround sound effect.

P.S. From the pic you can see that the Helios screen is faulty. Fucking Weiss now I gotta send it back.

Storm is one of the few iems that actually "scale" with expensive sources, they're kinda like the Susvara of iems.

I'm also trying to get into headphones but in terms of use case they are awkwardly positioned between iems and speakers - if I'm outside I'd use iems, but if I'm home I'd rather use speakers.

I know there's gonna be spergs rushing to point out that he was trolling at the time. I get it. He's saying the opposite because it's sarcasm. But that just points out the entire unintended spark of genius of it all. In a divine stroke of celestial knowledge, he foretold an absolute truth. Prophesized and fulfilled. He in fact said something correct, unbeknowingstly to him. If only he knew at the time! Haha.

If even an old man hears hiss with 4.4 you gotta be an absolute fossil to not hear it.
>>
>>110107024
You're assuming every IEM has hiss/audible noise floor with 4.4mm balanced and that assumption is incorrect.
>>
>>110107043
>audible
See, in your own rebuttal you admit it's a skill issue.
>>
>>110107056
No. You're not following. I used the word "audible" because that's the only metric that matters. You turned a factual statement into a hearing test flex.
>if an old man hears hiss with 4.4, you have to be a fossil not to hear it.
That claim only works if every IEM + every 4.4 source produces audible hiss, which it doesn't. You're showing sample bias and generalizing it to everyone, instead of giving actual insight.

Audible is indeed the only metric that matters and from the very beginning I split people into two groups based on that metric, pay attention.
>>
>>110108691
I am paying attention. You split people into "hears the hiss" and "doesn't hear the hiss," then declared the second group fossils. That only works if the hiss is actually present and universal and it's not.
You didn't split listeners by the metric. You split them by whether they share your particular experience, then called the ones who don't fossils. That's just rigorous ego self stroking and nobody cares to 'keep up' with that

Yeah it's extremely forward for vocals, listening is like remixing your waifu music in a way you've never heard it before. Puts a large aperature over it. It's also bright as fuck unlike Sgor Luna and needs EQ. But then again I don't really up the volume on anime girl music. Probably amazing for live music where it can sharpen the muffled vocalist and smoothen out everything else. Gotta find the songs that sound good.
