this piece of shit just kicked the bucketsurprise-surprise, just two days after their 5-year warranty expired
>>110096563i only bought 256tb alichink shit for my OS install. all the niggas were having a laff but here i am mounting dozens of them as my download folder and not giving a shit about r/w while they can't afford nand lmao
>>110096563This is concerning, anon. I've primarily bought ONLY samsung drives with a few sandisk ones because I thought samsung was the gold standard.if they aren't, who is?
>>110096563It's probably just a blown eFuse chip. If it is, you can just remove it and bridge the trace of the power line, it's what I did on my 860 Evo and it's still working to this day.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP84DQjMJCU
should've bought a hddmy toshibas are still running strong after 11 years>but muh ssd muh speed muh readwriteslose everything you stored then, idc
>>110096563My Samsung EVO SSD also has kicked the bucket the odd thing is that it doesnt show up in SATA III but works in SATA II so you might use an SATA - USB adapter as they often dont have SATA III
>>110096616Yep, still using the same 256GB Adata shitty SSD for over 10 years now.
>>110097057>muh 70 year old spinning magnetshit >another scam like 'dumb phones' and 'dumb tvs'we arent buying your new old stock boomer tech, rajesh
>>110096622crucial
>>110096563>I'm mad they were telling the truth
>>110097280wish someone had told me that before I built my fleet with samsung shit. fuck.
>>110097124Another adataGOD, been using them for a good few years tooToo bad about my 2tb XPG, it doesn't get recognized
>>110096623The exact same thing happened to mine. Had a local electronics repair shop solder a jumper wire over the fuse and it works fine. It's so common I bet they blow the fuses on purpose
>>110097837>Had a local electronics repair shop solder a jumper wire over the fuseWhy? You could've just done it for yourself.
>>110097891My eyes are shit and my hands are shaky, unfortunately.
>>110096622you're retarded if you're worried about his drive dying after FIVE YEARS of use with zero information about how he was using the drive
>>110096563ur scaring me
>>110097944my current drives are going on five years of use. how else could you use a drive other than just storing shit on it? it's not like he copies 100 GB of data on and off it every single day. anything else would be extremely niche.
>>110097988because you never know. i'm skeptical because i've literally never had a samsung ssd die on me, not even the 256GB samsung 840 pro i bought in 2013
>>110098019I filled my SSDs up with toot toot sounds. i'm trying to move all that to my 8 TB HDD now.
Now that is actually rareI've had cheap kingstons fail as well as a transcend, but never samsungs
>>110098125>Now that is actually raresome 870 had batch issues or were fakeOP probably bought it from a minority on facebook market
>>110096563Really? I must be lucky, even my 120 GB 840 Basic still runs, the one that died was my 1 TB Crucial M.2 SATA. Sadly it turned very hot but did not recognize, I ended up donating it to someone in a hardware forum as they denied me warranty. Its not like they would ever offer consumer products anyway. The other SSD I had fail ages ago was some ancient OCZ.And on the HDD front, it was a Samsung HDD with a SATA3 bug (that destroys the HDD when connecting it) and a 2.5" Seagate, although the latter was likely somewhat my own fault as I kept 24/7 it.>>110097071Runs even on SATA I, the 840 Basic I mentioned was used with a Phenom 9600 for long and still much faster with it.>>110099940Was it not the 840 EVO that had problems?
>>110099973>Was it not the 840 EVO that had problemsidk but 870 didlook it upboth batch issues and fake Temu issueswhen local markets are flooded with only one particular model, then dont buy it. rule of thumb.
>4 years ago I bought 2 massive WD 20TB server HDDs as permanent backups>Transfer everything off all my 2/4TB HDDs onto them, with one being a main backup and the other a secondary redundant backup>Plug the drives in like a month later one day to organize them and add new shit to them>One of the drives simply doesn't respond, the other drive lets off a crunching sound then has a flashing LED>Take them back to where I bought them, "sorry bruv, you got two dead drives xDD that's what you get for buying traditional hard drives!">They tell me there's no way to recover anything and they can send them off for repair/replacement, will take 3 months>Tell them to fuck off and they just cost me 20 years worth of shit I've collected online, all my movies, all my game ISOs. I had entire boards on 4chan saved from 2006-2009 on there. I had pictures and videos of dead friends and family members on there that I'll never get back>"We aren't liable for loss of data :)"I can't wait for the Chinese to start pumping out RAM and hard drives so I can rid my life of the Korean & Taiwanese Indian-tier shit that they put out now. How do you put out two PREMIUM SERVER DRIVES that both die at the same time, within a month of purchasing them.
>>110096622as shit as samsung are, their drives don't die all that oftenand as other anon said, ssds made with micron nand are better
Planned obsolescence and time bomb
>>110096563>he haven't buyed western digital
>>110100148That sounds like a hard lession about backups. Backup only your essential unrecoverable data. Best is to keep old HDDs, sometimes you get them even donated. Put them into a trash build and backup your files from time to time. I have many HDDs from 250 to 2000 GB, my images/videos/music/documents have their own subfolder and would be compressed into Winrar, moved onto that system and then copied on every drive as it fits. Documents (with a lot of installers) and videos don't fit on all but this way I have several copies of each. If my main system failed I could recover all up to the point where I made the backup. And don't count on these data loss warranties. Better buy a second drive then. I lost my movie database too because I cannot afford to back up over 10 TB but the loss was not that great as all could be recovered, triggering me to start a new media database from scratch where I convert everything to AV1, saving 50-60 % space. This move allowed me to avoid buying a 16-20 TB. HDDs are now just as expensive as SSD or RAM. Its incredible because who even uses these beside of data hoarders? At one point I considered going with the 8 TB QVO and later buy a second one, for around 300 € I would have likely done it, but now a used one goes for 700+ again. I also planned to replace my 5 TB 2.5" Seagate with a SSD but then prices skyrocketed. But I got a 9100 PRO 4 TB for 300 and had to make a choice, it was not foreseeable. A generic 4 TB would likely have been 150 or so. A QVO SATA would actually suffice for the personal file database, but they cost as much as NVMe. Why does no one ever make cheap SSDs again? Especially the QVO series seemed to be designated for hoarding, as you write it only once and then only read occasionally from it.>>110100140If Temu fake its not Samsung fault. Samsung so far was the most reliable NAND I had.Don't buy these 4 TB SSDs for 50 € on aliexpress, if you are that dumb you really don't deserve better.
>>110099973>Was it not the 840 EVO that had problems?Samsung is shit. They've had a lot of firmware bugs in their ssds in recent yearsI even had a 980 pro 2tb that started nuking its sectors over time because of a firmware bug which silently destroyed hundreds of GBs of data
>>110100676The 990 Pro also had a firmware bug where if you put too much random reads on it (easiest way to repro: open the drive in total commander and press shit+alt+enter so it starts computing folder sizes on the entire drive), it would simply drop out and require a hard reset to recover. That one mystified me for months.but it's not like the noname adatas and kingstons are better, I had a bug in one of those where all read operations halted for 1-5 minutes randomly. The funnier part was their firmware updater being a 700MB Linux live cd.
>>110100676nooo leave the heckin wholesome samsungerino alone
>>110096563Samsung? More like SCAMsung!Samsung? More like SHAMEsung!
>using an SSD for anything other than OS, programs and games that are easily replacablewhy?
>>110100840hdds causes hitching in windows and are noisy, plus i'm not poor
>>110100846great reading comprehension you got there buddyyou think I store my movies on my SSDs and the OS on my HDD?
>>110100862>he doesn't know
>>110100791That sounds really severe, is 9100 PRO also affected? >>110100840Thats the M.2 1 TB Crucial that failed for me. I still don't know why. I still keep a 250 GB one that works flawlessly.>>110100862I would probably see to make a dedicated storage system / homeserver for all those HDDs if I were you.
>>1101010759100 PRO is good so farIt's only a little hotter and less efficient than competing gen5 drives and like all samsung ssds, slower in linux than in windows but otherwise fine
>>110099973>Was it not the 840 EVO that had problems? The problem with 840 evo was that it got slower as the data grew more stale. Like, you install a new operating system and it's fast, but it gets slower and slower to boot.A firmware update fixed it, but it also erased the drive in the process. I did it to my 750GB evo
>>110101075>Thats the M.2 1 TB Crucial that failed for me.No way, the one in my pic is the 2.5'' variant that works fine, the M2 version also died for me. Maybe the 2.5'' variant has different parts.
>>110101436The NAND should be the same its the same name just the interface. I still wonder what it had and why, it was not just dead, the lamp worked but the drive became incredible hot very fast so I removed it and only tested for short periods.
>>110096563>trusting k*reansYou got what you deserve.
>>110096563It's kinda random. I have a 4tb 870 that's dead, but a 4tb 860, WD blue, 8tb micron and WD blacks running just fine. Hell, two 128gb 830 that I beat the shit out of in raid0 for a decade are still humming along. Same with some old crucial. Newer adata nvme shit the bed after like a year. Seems like it's just random to me.
>>110104933If it's the onboard fuse that blows, then it's not really random, that thing can blow itself when it gets a voltage spike or something. So crap power supplies or even hot plugging could cause the drives to die.All the same, as catastrophic it felt for the drive to die (pretty sure by then I did regular backups, but it still would've lost me months of work), being able to fix it and restore all data felt all the more better. If anything that made me gravitate even more towards Samsung SSDs, although the firmware errors on the 990 Pro were annoying as hell.
>>110096623oh cool, can u do the same with M.2 SSDs?
>>110105549Last time I checked the 990 Pro and 980 Pro had the same fuse chip on it, but the 990 Evo did not. So if it's there you can probably do it.
>>110100148is this bait? under what logic would the store or manufacturer be liable for the fact that you're a fucking dumbass with no proper backup strategy?I'm curious on who would have you blamed if your house had burned down instead?>How do you put out two PREMIUM SERVER DRIVES that both die at the same timethere's a reason it's always commonly raccomended (when following the 3-2-1 rule at the very least, of course) to not use perfectly identical storage devices, especially when bought at the same time, you obviously bought two drives from the same bad batch or that suffered from the same transport damage, no idea why it doesn't cross your mind that this could be such a possibilty, what a retard.I'm also curious under which logic a premium server drive is supposed to have a 0.00% failure rate (just like chinese nand apparently)
>>110100610>HDDs are now just as expensive as SSD or RAM. Its incredible because who even uses these beside of data hoarders? are you fucking serious?...the ai datacenters that also caused the ram shortages? jesus christ wake up
Interesting.I didn't realize these were so cheap. i might try it out as a hobby one day.
>>110105734meant for>>110105584
>>110101738Mine was also pretty hot, couldn't run it without an aftermarket cooler. 970 EVO Plus and 980 Pro run cooler with the same heatsink attached.
>>110105734The cheap tools are garbage. Don't be like all the retards who buy a $10 USB soldering iron thinking it's all super cheap and then they won't be able to use it for shit and just cause more damage.
>>110105780okay what do u use
>>110100148Hey sorry on your loss, sorry also to make you feel worse but I think you're willing to learn. To anyone reading this: you should1) keep the old drives with the data,2) keep the new drives with the data.3) consider NOT running two new drives in a mirror because you reduce your ability to recover from any harm done to one of the copies of data. If drives were free you would run mirrors all day but you could have two separate copies for the same price.you can get 2 used SSDs for €20 each and run them in a mirror . It will be only 120gb or 256gb but it's enough for you to run torrents off of SSD in stead of HDD and then update your 3 separate copies with the files you want to keep.bonus option: buy used drives and use a program called snapraid, I can't say much more because I haven't started doing that.bonus advice: hdds can run for a really long time but having them spin up more often is asking for shorter life. You can easily set the auto standby timer to 1 hour or more because the bearings are "fluid dynamic bearings" and there is no metal-on-metal contact that wears them out. Making long hours doesn't really affect hdds' reliability until you're in the 50k+ hours range. That's 5.7 years of 24/7 . You can learn something from that storage companies default to replacing drives pre-emptively at 50k hours. If you find these drives on ebay or whatever there will be 150 of almost the same model, SMART data almost always saying: "49212 hours, 17 start-stop count". If there was any benefit to spinning down the disks the storage companies would do it. I don't suggest you aim for 24/7 spinning but perhaps have the drive spin up and stay up until you reboot the computer.Personally I see good deals on drives all the time and it just makes me want to make more money to provide for my hobbies. Glory to you all, peace out.
