X11 is finally dead and obsolete as both Plasma and Gnome don't support it anymore.

About fucking time.

good riddance, it was a security nightmare

Wayland works great for me on an intel gpu, I had only one issue with it - fractional scaling being broken on some Xwayland apps.
But honestly it feels like they should have kept X as an alternative considering Nvidia users are still getting issues to this day. I don't like that they are completely retiring it.
>>
>>110104436
I had more issues with nvidia using X11 on Mint than I have with using Wayland on CachyOS.

Xtrash cultist are coming

X11 is shit and the fact that wayland project still needs a full market sponsoring from IBM/Red hat freedesktop to simply be deployed.
Then KDE,GNOME and some other projects had to write basic functionality, wayland is just a protocol excuse, developer refuses to write.
This is just embarrassing and wayland is still a half arsed mess

DE's in geenral, but more specifically gnome and kde, target tourists, which is why they reset every few years, because they have to meet the evolving (dis)tastes of new tourist waves.
xorg just works (although they did fuck up the last release). yserver works too. memes like xlibre are to be avoided, of course.
if a wayland implementation becomes serviceable, the majority of non-tourists will happily move to it. only contrarians and tards who think "older is better" is a non-contextual universal truth will stay, or rather pretend to stay, since most of them are just posers.
unfortunately, no wayland implementation is there yet. so it will be X11 for non-tourists for the forceable future.

yeah, it's time for yserver

I don't run KDE and I dropped GNOME in 2015. Why should I care?

How the fuck do I make the mouse pointer the same speed and acceleration as on X? Already using libinput with a touchpad
Also is there now a way to turn off vsync or does my whole desktop and mouse pointer have to run at 10fps if one app renders slowly

It's 2026 and I am releasing a new X11 window manager written from scratch with snailcat C, and you cannot stop me!

X has existed for 40 years. Name one person that got hacked because of that "security nightmare".

Wacom pen tablet experience still terrible on the latest Wayland-only KDE Plasma, with sticky popups and other annoying quirks like with application windows focus and so on.
>>
>>110104326
It held all Unix systems but Mac OS back for decades.
Rot in hell you historic mistake.

>>110104436
Sometimes you have to break things and force Nvidia to pick up the slack.
This is how Microsoft and Apple have done things and why they're ahead.

idk i play osu and draw cocks in krita on my wacom tablet on sway and everything just werks

Good. There is no reason to be multisession. Either embrace Wayland fully or stick to what already works. The real X11 experience is that of window managers and bespoke compositors. You get none of that with KDE and GNOME.

good opinion. Nice. I too use simply stick to xfce and then install mate on my moms pc.
>>
>>110106128
You can! Just run a VM with 128mb ram and 1 core.

Also: chicago95 theme for XFCE. It's not windows though.

Also: Windowblinds themes. Here is a windows 2000 theme:

I use FVWM, and will continue to use X. Wayland doesn't support my graphics accelerator and never will.

In the beginning, there was Unix, and Unix was good.
Unix didn't have the WIMP paradigm because it was stupid.
Then some pranksters at MIT copied Xerox and gave Unix a passable WIMP. This was extended to support network transparency, network login, and generally worked well. Besides some screen tearing sometimes.
There was much rejoicing, because X became good and worked out of the box and provided lots of customizability and flexibility. Every X11 desktop looked special and unique like the special snowflake my mother told me I was.
But in 2009, the evil suits at RedHat looked upon Apple and the iPhone and said lustfully "I wish I was Tim Apple before his balls got cancer." and they set in secret to destroy the Unix desktop so they could remake it like an iPhone 4.
And lo, they defunded X11 and told their people not to work on it and blocked attempts by the community to maintain it, hoping it would die off in time to be replaced with RedHat's Quartz clone, Wayland.
But Wayland was shit and incompatible with everything except GNOME and didn't have network transparency. So the peasants resisted and most systems fell back to using X11 under Wayland anyway.
But that was not enough! Forsoothe, the RedHat evil mustache men had to have THEIR Apple clone, and could not abide by the masses continuing to use what worked. So they cockblocked Metux and banned him from the "Free" as in RedHat Desktop dot org repos.
And end users who enjoyed the customizeability and stability of X switched to his liberated Xorg and left the iPhone cloners to rot with their stupid DE in a box that can't even screen capture because le my security!
When Steam requires Wayland to work then I'll run Wayland under X and then all my shit will work via Xlib anyway because nobody makes modern games for Linux anyway.
>>
>>110104326
i use neither gnome nor kde
>>110106012
wayland is one of miscrosoft's gay opsecs to merge linux with windows
>>
>>110104326
Both of those are cancer anyway. X11 is better without them.

how do I screen forward over ssh now?
>>
>>110104326
Plasma is buggy mess and always will be because it's run by incompetent fools that got lucky and Gnome is not even real DE, it's a protest-DE created in spite of Windows users.

how do i make a keylogger now?

Thanks dad!

I hope XFCE will have good support for wayland soon.

What about Xfce, Mate, i3, IceWM, and JWM?

I'm not moving on til i can use a remote desktop first try without issue. Nomachine, VNC, and Rustdesk don't work so why should I switch?

using gui apps over ssh is also impossible and idk how i do what i need to without that.

It doesn't matter. Why we fight over it is due to rampant freetard politics: x11 is the basis on how all freetard software was drawn and rendered and to retain all core functionalities the codebase was never heavily refactored. So 15 years ago there was a stir on making a new windowing system that has every modern feature and abandons the cruft of a one machine multiple user system; the problem is that the group that won out on the implementation of this system are the same assholes who were rejecting feature updates for the stable branch of x11. So 15 years of absolute design by committee of security theater types has wasted most of that time refusing to make Wayland easy to implement, denying requests for features, fighting with Nvidia, and sabotaging x11 development has caused some extremely emotionally charged autism from Wayland onlyist trannies accusing X11 troglodytes for being the "real" reason why Wayland hasn't fixed Linux.
>>
>>110105729
> no hacks
That’s the problem. So we have to replace X with something that has thousands of zero-days for zion.
>>
>>110106899
> plasma
Never heard of it.

Just got rid of and kicked it off my ubuntu install because of it’s endless crap. Replaced it with dwm.
>>
Maybe it'll force FreeBSD to finally fix the graphical corruption on Intel cards
>>
>>110107697
i agree, the worst thing about wayland was it was designed by the same people who """maintained""" x11 (xorg)
they didn't want to advance x11 and they didn't even want wayland to be on-par with xorg.

i wonder if we'd have been better off with Mir, lol
>>
>>110108245
>Never heard of it.
from version 4 it's what KDE calls their DE. used to be just "KDE" but i guess they thought that wasn't good enough since they make things besides the DE itself as well
>>
>>110104326
>X11 is finally dead and obsolete as both Plasma and Gnome don't support it anymore.
Poorly designed Gnome and Plasma fail to work with the established stable mainstream standard X11 system.

Fixed that incorrect statement for you.
