>if you dont like it make your own Twitter>if you dont like it make your own OS>noooo not like that! this can't be happening, social media websites must be censored and operating systems must be broken pieces or shit, you cant just fix that and do whatever you want.
Why would you give the worst examples of either?
>>110105250for me, it's gabeOS.
>>110105250I feel like the only time I hear about Omarchy anymore is security researchers pointing out the 100000th obvious problem with DHHs shit code and people being idiots here. It feels like a fad that didn't even last a week.
>>110105277>is security researchers pointing out the 100000th obvious problem with DHHssurely you have some examples
>>110105250so Bluesky and Nix is your choice, right?

>>110105342The difference this time is that there is more money getting put into Omarchy than all other desktop related open source software projects other distros rely on together. So it's not just the new thing but something to take very seriously that will shape where Linux desktop is heading. It is more money than what Canonical or Red Hat put into desktop maintenance.
>>110105563>>110105369>>110105361mad
>>110105659Linux developer desktops. Not all of them. There will still be no actual year of the Linux desktop.
>>110105679Omarchy and DHH offer a very good promise: We can fix everything. It is a big promise.I think that it is a "developer desktop" and you should ignore it if you are not a "developer" is just wrong and a very bad prejudice.
>>110105250i don't get why you'd use that over just arch, i don't want someone else's garbage.
>>110105406>this wont bring back your old safespace twitterwhat's funny is that you read a couple of comments and then start wildly hallucinating random shit that has nothing to do with the comments you're replying to. how mentally ill are you today?
>>110105659>It is more money than what Canonical or Red Hat put into desktop maintenance.>desktop maintenanceBecause ibm doesn't care about desktop. It's infrastructure to them. At the end of the day it's still just Linux, a remake of a server os from the 70s trying to be shoehorned into a role it's not suited for. And what exactly are they doing? Using that money to re-write all the shit they disagree with until it's done the 'right' way, or is it shit that will make it useable for your average computer enjoyer?>Look at our new veneer on all the same old shit. This time it's different!
>>110106000You just assume its not already better than MacOS and Windows because you are too lazy to try it and learn something new.

>>110105250Amogus pull the plug out
>>110106045It isn't. I would say for one reason, even after all of these years. Packaging.
>>110106060>PackagingSolved.There is no packaging on Windows nor on MacOS. So Linux wins by default anyways.Like what more do you want than everything just installing from the package manager of your distro? If you need anything more there is nix which solves every issue with packaging you can think of.
>>110106045>you are too lazy to try it and learn something new.I probably first used Linux before you were born. And this is really the main problem with Linux, too many people who use it treat it as something to believe in, because for some reason you've decided the OS you use is actually part of your self-image. Just fucking why. Computers and software are simply tools to perform useful work. Until that attitude changes in the Linux world it'll just keep going in circles. >>110106055>"But only the churches I approve of" ~ Ben Shapiro
>>110106093>There is no packaging on Windows nor on MacOS.There is on Mac, as .img files. It's not packaging in the Linux sense, but it's still a form of distribution that is easier and universal. Anf there's only this one file type. Not dozens of competing formats and versions and forks like in the Linux world. On top of that, macOS technically solved the .app wrapper bit in the 80s with NeXTStep. They literally conquered the UNIX desktop before the 90s. Apple just inherited it when they got NeXT. i won't say this is all better though. You lose the freedom of choice. And since most Linux users value this so much, it will remain right where it is. It will never conquer desktops for normies.
>>110106107>first used Linux beforeLinux was in a lot worse spot some years ago, and you would be right. A lot has changed though.>tools to perform useful workYes and MacOS and Windows get in my way of using my PC.It starts with the basics, like slow filesystems, like waiting 10 seconds for my git worktree to work, they have no packaging, every little app starting their little update services, then you launch an app and it asks updoot pls pls restart pretty pls. Holy shit how much I hate how everything I have to use behaves on MacOS and Windows. Then I want to have my status bar at the top? No not on Windows 11. Yes I know they fixed recently maybe, but they lost me when they auto updated my Windows 10 to 11 over night. Then every right click took over 1 second to load some react menu, which they took over a year to fix.And don't get me started how MacOS is rotting and degrading in every aspect...
>>110106141There is no packaging on MacOS. there is the Apple Store, where you need to pay Apple and be Apple approved to push an app. That is decent for the user maybe. But no one is using the App Store and ships their own little garbage update services, install and uninstall tools, and has hacked their own update mechanisms because this garbage is easier to do than go through Apple's approval process.Same on Windows, where the MS Store is also unusable garbage for both consumer and provider.
>>110105250it's for cucks. you're simply using another man's dotfiles while he gets paid millions of dollars.
>>110106166Apple Store is just delivery system. You can download apps elsewhere to your heart's content. They're an .img format. It's like a zip. The programs are just one file - the .app format, where AppImage and Flatpaks and Snap got the idea - 20 years before those came out. And the reason why Apple is better is because there's only one version. Everyone and their mom isn't making yet another competing wrapper or another package manager. It's been only one thing since NeXTStep released in the late 80s. The same could be said for Windows somewhat. They've only ever had .exe files and setup programs. It makes delivery easy. It's why any random person could just go in a store, pick up one product, and always know it'd work when they clicked setup. No dependency hells, no competing formats, etc..I'll repeat again though: Because you're tied to one "vision" of the OS, you lose freedom. This is what makes Linux attractive. It can be whatever you want. It's just not going to be a desktop OS for the masses. That doesn't mean sucks. It's just the nature of the beast.
>>110106241You talk about a package format. I am talking about the whole process of packaging as a concept. It does not matter what format a package is at all. What matters is how they are managed. A package manager owns dependencies, installation, deletion, and most important updates of installed software. This concept is not existing on Windows and MacOS outside their own App Stores, which are so annoying to use that it become standard to just ship the whole package managing yourself. This is the standard on everything on Windows and Mac. And people got so used to this >>110106060 like this where packaging becomes a negative to a user on Linux, because they can't fathom that their OS is now in charge of managing applications. There are also enough Linux distributions who fail at that so you have to resort to Flatpak, which still is infinitely better than anything on Windows or MacOS.Arch and especially Omarchy are not though. That is what makes them great.
>>110106177>Dotfiles If you think that's all it is, you're the true cuck for eating everything that's fed to you
