I went to charge my phone and it wasn't working, ok, either the charger, cable or my phones usb-c port is broken. I tried another cable on the same charger and it works just fine.So the problem is the cable, right? Well, no.I plugged a cheap extension into the same charger, plugged the 'broken' cable in the extensions usb-c port, and my phone is charging just fine.So what the fuck is going on? Why can't I just use the cable directly on the charger? Why does it work with the extension there?
>>110105832Modern USB has active electronics that communicate over the CC pins to guess both which way and how much power to send. It's black voodoo magic and no one knows how it works.
>>110105857btw when I say "has active electronics" I'm including the cables themselves.
>>110105857Forgot to mention that it was working normally just a yesterday. Nothing happened between then and now that could make my charger stop interacting with my cable.
Bump
>>110105832One is a data cable and one is just a charging cable. The hub needs communication to work correctly. Stop buying cheap cables. The stupid adapter just routes the pins. No logic.
>>110105832all usb has a 5v 2a line since forever . some new usb charging ports have QC / USBPD which also need a supporting cable of the same type.personally i have like a dozen USB cables with a screen showing the charging power + usb testers. so i know the charging power on every device i charge
