Would it be a mistake to pay $560 for a factory watercooled AMD Radeon 7900 XTX? It's the Powercolor Liquid Devil model. Guy I work with managed to get an RTX 5090 for MSRP back when they first launched and he's been sitting on this 7900 XTX forever and is having a hard time selling it because it's a liquid model with no air cooler at all. It requires a pre-existing liquid loop (I don't have one but I'm willing to make one). Pic related
>>
>>110106436
I guess? It depends if you actually want the 5090, or just want a free pc. I would buy it if it shipped sooner than december. Don't wanna tie up that much money sitting. They might even just cancel the orders

>>110106470
not preassembled but they sell DIY kits like a lot of companies do. Honestly one of the most expensive parts of a custom loop is the water block, especially for the GPU because it's a one size block that usually only fits a single kind of GPU. CPU blocks can usually fit a variety of sockets. Not to mention I'm fully willing to go with an external radiator instead of buying a watercooling specific case. I'm all about jank shit so long as it works and doesn't leak.

>I originally had their raw rips sitting on my storage (I have 52TB, 26TB for actual storage, rest is backup).
>The raw rips were like 700GB for an entire blu-ray TV series, 100GB per 4K rip, etc.
>I'm actively encoding everything to be good enough without noticeable visual quality loss (as far as I can see with the naked eye) but far less space.
>All so I can maximize my storage because mechanical HDDs are easily $1000+ for higher capacities.
>I even went to far as to disable RAID so I don't have multiple drives all spooling up and down at the same time to reduce wear and tear.
>Doing old school single drive storage to single drive backup using AOMEI Backupper

I am once again asking

>Windows desktop for gaming
>macbook pro for work
>two (possibly three) monitors
any tips for a good kvm switch setup? I've spent tons of hours doing research and there doesn't seem to be a good switch that supports this setup easily. My current idea is
>Caldigit thunderbolt docker for macbook
>hook up the dock to a kvm switch
>hook up the desktop to the kvm switch
but now I have to spend like $700 for this setup and I don't even know if it will work well

I want to be able to connect my macbook to one thunderbolt cable and switch between it and the desktop with one button

There's going to be stripe RGB subpixel QD-OLED with brighter panels (DisplayHDR TrueBlack 600, guarantees 350-nits full screen brightness).
These won't be cheap though.

Dell is also planning to raise prices monitor by 3~5% this month due to rising component & shipping costs.

>>
>>110106674
Depends how much you value the stripe RGB subpixels or the higher brightness.
If you bought the new QD-OLED 1440p ultrawide monitor, you own one of the best panels, no need to doubt your purchase.
There's an LG 4K striped RGB WOLED out now, but I think it's capped at TB400 brightness and has some WOLED related issues.
>>
>>110106636
BEFORE BUYING
>check your monitors' resolution and refresh rate
>make sure each has a DP or HDMI input
>check your dock gives 3 video outs from an M5 Pro
>if it's the TB4 CalDigit you probably need a newer dock
>buy a 3-head KVM that supports your refresh rate on ALL outputs
>needs EDID emulation or your windows jump around every switch
>buy from somewhere with easy returns, this is the part that fucks you
>buy certified cables rated for your res and refresh (DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.1)

WIRING
>macbook -> dock via thunderbolt
>that's your one mac cable
>power the dock from its own adapter
>dock's 3 video outs -> KVM computer 1 inputs
>dock's USB out -> KVM computer 1 USB port
>this carries kb/mouse so everything lives on the mac side of the dock
>do NOT put the KVM between the mac and the dock, it breaks thunderbolt
>PC's 3 GPU outs -> KVM computer 2 inputs
>GPU, NOT the motherboard
>PC USB cable -> KVM computer 2 USB port
>KVM's 3 outputs -> your 3 monitors
>keyboard, mouse and other USB stuff go into the KVM, not the computers
>power the KVM from its adapter

SETUP
>mac: System Settings > Displays
>set res and refresh on each monitor, fix the arrangement
>PC: NVIDIA or AMD control panel
>same res and refresh on each screen
>turn on G-Sync/FreeSync if the KVM passes it through
>KVM: turn on EDID emulation if there's a setting

TESTING
>press the button
>all 3 monitors AND kb/mouse should switch together
>check refresh rate on all 3 screens in both OSes
>KVMs will silently drop you to 60Hz
>run a demanding game, watch for flicker or signal drops
>switch back and forth like 10 times
>test after the mac sleeps and wakes too
>if it shits the bed, return it

DON'T buy the all-in-one "thunderbolt KVM docks" for 3 monitors; TESmart HDC203-PM24, the ~$520 Newegg one. they use DisplayLink to extend 3 screens on a mac. fine for work, ass for gaming and high refresh
>>
>>110106702

https://www.microcenter.com/product/711497/powercolor-amd-radeon-rx-9070-gre-reaper-triple-fan-graphics-card

dlss is just eye candy that has a false claim, the claim is that it's a way to increase detail.

In theory maybe it could, but in absolutely no game do you get an edge with dlss on. fsr is no different, it's there to make you feel better about bad settings.

In some games you just have to lower the settings, including resolution, not rarely. This is simply factual: pro gamers don't do 4K, most do 1080p, and some do even lower. Exceptions to this rule aren't proof that someone on a budget should be using dlss (lmao)

>Radeon RX 9070 XT owners are reporting game crashes caused by an aggressive dynamic boost algorithm. While manufacturers advertise rated boost clocks between 2970 MHz and 3100 MHz across 58 partner models, the stock VBIOS sets the maximum frequency limit at 3450 MHz by default.

>When power and thermal headroom allow, RDNA 4 cards automatically push clocks up to 3300–3400 MHz during lighter workloads, game menus, or heavy upscaling. This behavior pushes many GPUs past their stability threshold at stock settings and makes undervolting difficult without crashes.

>To prevent driver timeouts, users are manually applying a negative 200 to 300 MHz frequency offset in AMD Adrenalin software. Locking the maximum clock strictly to the 2970 MHz reference spec resolves stability issues, though it reduces average gaming performance by roughly 5%.

alright so i need a new gpu to play ace combat. i have a 2070 super right now and it is weak. i have a decent system otherwise, 270k plus cpu with 32gb ddr5. i have an available option to nab a 3080 founders ed. on fb marketplace for $350. OR, i could wait until black friday and try to get a 5070ti.

i'd like to really have a future-proof gpu for some time, as i know prices are only gonna go up. honestly i am a filmmaker/editor and game seldomly, but i do want to experience ace combat 8 the way it should be, and also i want to play the new starcraft when it comes out and that isn't until 2030. so having a good graphics card that can last into the future is crucial, i feel.

so should i stay or should i go bros, get the 3080 now or wait till black friday and maybe get a 5070ti? it'll be more expensive but i'll be saving up.

I haven't had a single GPU related crash on my 9070 with Linux, though. Just one OOM crash on mission 2 which seems like the most agnostic common issue.

what's the best way to update to the latest GPU driver after a fresh windows install?
i've done all the windows updates and i noticed it installed an Nvidia driver from July. for the updated driver, i just want the driver and not the Nvidia App.

Download the driver you want, cut the internet connection, DDU what you have installed and then install the driver. You should disable automatic driver search too

Hi anons, my monitor broke (old 4k 30hz samsung from 2016), and I genuinely can't find a new one that isn't overwhelmingly raw on the eyes.
I used to turn my brightness all the way down and it had almost zero glow to it, but all the new ones I bought genuinely feel like a flashlight pointed directly at me.

Is anyone as autistic here? Could someone recommend a monitor that's really dim?
>>
>>110109393
I already have the group policy set to not download drivers over windows update, but i did that after the initial round of updates to set up the PC.
is DDU still needed these days? I did see people not recommending it unless there are issues.
>>
>>110109398
Put up a bias light behind the monitor to light up the wall so your eyes adjust that brightness level and what happens on the screen is less dilating
>>
>>110109440
some say you don't need it but I prefer updating with DDU. It's not like it takes very long you just have to remember your settings and to reinstall the monitor drivers if you used any

>is DDU still needed these days?
i also wonder this. i am going to be changing cards (1060 to 1660) and i wonder if i should remove the drivers, they say that you don't have to when going from nvidia to nvidia and also that there can be issues with no monitor being recognised and ther ejust being a black screen when using windows safe mode (as they say you should when using ddu). also ddu's readme itself says to only really use it if necessary, if you have major problems with drivers

I have an association, I held events for kids and such with lots of games. Most of my systems are consoles and some PCs, but these PCs are getting too old.
They are mostly Gen 3/4 i5/7 non OC with 8~16gb of RAM and a 1050ti/60 or 570/580. I'm talking with a friend that has a few i5 14400 systems (Lenovo OEM, but these need just an adapter). I might keep a few of the 580, but the lowest ones will be replaced. The problem is that right now everything is expensive, so I'm looking at second hand stuff.

What something usually available that is an upgrade to 580/1060? And what price would be a good one? I'm thinking about the 6700 XT or similar. Nvidia cards seem to be much more expensive even at second hand.

But they're really good to use as normal speakers as well, but for a regular battlestation I would go down in size to yamaha hs 3, 4 or 5 depending on budget. A pair of hs 3 is 200 euros. And they look really slick.

I mean, I could play some more visually-intensive single player shit and be clearly fine with a 280Hz cap, but what if I played lighter indie games, CS2, etc? Then I could feasibly benefit from that extra 80Hz, even if modestly. I saw that $630 price on Amazon but didn't bite because I was fixated on MSI's model. You want to avoid triggering VRR as much as possible and a 9800X3D-9070XT realistically can do 1% lows around 240-280. Any higher is a stretch and you are gonna see flickering unless you disable VRR but then you won't get the smooth presentation for dips like shader stutter and multitasking.

How might I actually notice VRR flicker in these scenarios? My current monitor is a 3840x2160@144Hz IPS display; it has VRR, and I don't experience any visible flicker issues in whatever I play. The only unpleasant (or sometimes nauseating) thing is when I dip below 90 FPS, but that's to deal with motion clarity. Is this more of a prominent issue with OLEDs and 1% lows or something?
>>
>>110111283
CPUS are fast enough that 120-144hz is no problem for them. Higher refresh rates that are double change that. OLEDs update faster than LCD and those updates are perceptible as flashing when it swings from 360hz down to whatever dip it did.

DDR6 is going to be INSANE and you’re not ready. DDR5 launched at 4800 MT/s and DDR6 is rumored to start around 8800 and scale to 17600, with a possible extension up to 21000 MT/s down the line. That’s over 3.5x DDR5’s launch speed and double its current ceiling. Peak module bandwidth is around 134 GB/s versus DDR5’s 67 GB/s. DDR5 split each DIMM into two 32-bit subchannels, and DDR6 is going to FOUR channels per module, with banks going from 16 to 64, so way more parallel access when everything is hammering memory at once. Voltage drops from 1.1V to around 1.0V, on-die ECC gets a big upgrade, and NRZ signaling looks like the favorite over PAM, which means a cleaner path to these speeds. And on top of all that you’ve got CAMM2 coming for the form factor. Regular sticks are hitting a wall at these speeds because the long traces and slot connectors wreck signal integrity, but CAMM2 is a flat module that screws down onto a compression connector, so the traces are shorter and cleaner and it can hit way higher speeds. One module runs full dual-channel by itself, it’s much thinner than SO-DIMMs so laptops get slimmer or fit bigger batteries, and unlike soldered RAM you can still upgrade it. Core counts and iGPUs have been starving for bandwidth for years, and this is the generation that finally feeds them. The jump from DDR5 to DDR6 will be bigger than the jump from DDR4 to DDR5.

Not anon, I don't know what the US is like since they have real nvmo's. But in canada the ISP monopolies create a price ladder, where the cheapest phone plan is $35 for a gig of data ($15 plans exist but forbid you from expanding your 150mb of data, you need to bump to $35). Then for $40 they offer 10gb, then unlimited at $50 and etc. But if you get a phone it's just $5 extra for 2 years and it's basically half the price of the phone. For example I could've got a samsung Z fold 8 for $800 CAD for an extra $30 a month (normally it's $2k).
So basically the poor people who aren't buying new phones every 2 years are paying for a overpriced plan.

the laptop chips above the 60 series are scams. They have less vram because they physically use a lower tier chip. So the 5070M is using the 5060 chip. And the 5070M TI is using the 5070 desktop chip. And sometimes they use the 3gb chips (the chips that were supposed to be used in the cancelled super series) to extend the vram, that's how the 5090M has 24gb instead of 16gb (since it's using the 5080/5070 TI chip).
You can view the chip on the GPU on techpowerup.

I don't buy into the "small monitor is better for comp" meme, nor do I use a stretched res. If I was to use 4:3, it'd be native or not at all. I do however play more than just CS; modern titles like The Finals or Arc Raiders for example, which can look great in ultrawide. If I can have both a more responsive experience and a more immersive image, then that better matches all of my needs. Not all players want the same experience, and not all pros are 'right': their retarded fixation on low DPIs despite inferior input latency is evidence enough of that.

retards pay for this shit?

Don't generalize the PC tuning process to your limited knowledge.
I wouldn't be surprised if you're the same AMD nigger advising people not to undervolt their processors in these threads.
>>
>chubby chaser undervolts and tunes his 5950x
>says his tuning is stable
>has usb disconnect issues
>blames the platform instead of himself
kek. pc tuners are so pathetic.
>>
>>110115274
See? It's the AMD nigger I thought of, so predictably retarded.
>>
>it's the chubby chaser faggot
kek
>>
>>110115291
I don't watch his content, you're the one who's got that fraud stuck in your head, rent-freeā„¢.
Typical loser, bringing up the worst personality because he's an easy hit.

This is like dismissing the entire human race because of (your) existence, you're just a terrible sample.
>>
>worst example
>posts screenshots from reddit
>>
>>110115333
Aren't you the same guy expecting things to just werk? Because AMD drivers don't. Adrenaline doesn't.
Be sure to apply the stutter fix in Adrenaline before you rerun those demos & Steam Workshop benchmarks.
>>
i never had to do anything to my system and it runs stable since i built it with no issues. cope and seethe.
>>
>>110115361
The one who's coping here has been you this entire time.
The most significant Counter-Strike matches have been played on GeForce cards, for decades.
Not your demos, not your Workshop benchmarks. None of your coped-up excuses will change this reality.

>>110115361
>Literal normie PC builder crying about Redditors
You're closer to (((them))) than (us).
>>
>>110115384
nigger everyone here uses windows. i'm above everyone one of you. non of you niggers have ever installed gentoo. you are all just nigger cattle to me.
>>
>>110115400
Look at this loser forming his identify & personality around an OS.
Too retarded to fine tune his PC anyway, because the issue is always PEBKAC.
>>
>windows users
lmao.
>>
Some people just really need a tribe, even if that tribe is defined by whatever operating system license agreement they signed.
Very sad.
>>
>window user making up cope for using being windows cattle and not know how to use anything else
kek. that will never not be funny.
>>
>>110115453
I have separate boot drives forLinux and Windows, stop simplifying everything down to your level.
You can't even relate to someone getting paid for doing a good job at something.
>>
>i can't relate to some jew
true. those pc tuners don't do anything. their tuning does nothing.
>>
>>110115482
Just because you and FagChasers suck at PC tuning, doesn't make it irrelevant for everyone else.
Keep reinforcing your identity around Linux, AMD, and Radeon, You clearly don't have much going in your life.
>>
>drop in to shit on windows users
>leave again
sorry rajesh but i work with linux and windows servers (unfortunately). i just drop by and call you niggers out.
>>
>>110115561
Bad larp, we know you couldn't even afford to pay full price for a Radeon card. Your insecurity is palpable.
Dumb people like you have trouble staying anonymous in 4Chan.
>>
>bad larp
not larping

And now he's coping about his life.
Enjoy your suboptimal PC.
>>
>suboptimal pc
>according to some jew asking for money
yeah thanks. going to enjoy it. been enjoying it for now three years without issues.
>>
>>110115650
Like a bitch ass /r/IndianGaming Reddit normie.

>i work with linux and windows servers

Thanks for telling us you wear a fursuit.
>>
Cute, they're making LLMs that need haloperidol.
>>
>>110115650
The point is you don't have to pay anyone to optimize your PC if you know how to do it properly and thoroughly stability test it.
But a disadvantaged minority like you wouldn't know your way around it.
>>
That's crazy dude, I just checked my QD-OLED TV which does not have AR coating and it STILL has microscratches on the screen. Yes, you can only see them if light shines directly on them, but I did literally EVERYTHING right. I used a vinyl duster, I used brand new microfiber, I used distilled water. It STILL gets scratches. The screens look good when its dark but this tech is not ready for consumers.
>>
i have actual experience with stripping down windows as i have to do it for server container installs with windows nano server and micro server
you niggers know nothing
>>
>>110115704
*core server
>>
>>110115704
That sentence took you a while to research and bullshit.
You still have a shitty job (if any), if you needed wait for a discounted Radeon card. That's humiliating.
>>
>>110115666
thanks satan
