I have a BS in CS and I was too depressed and lazy to do anything with it or network while in school, it's been almost 4 years since I graduated and haven't done shit with it

I wasted my precious time in school and didn't do any networking. My degree is also basically worthless now compared to degrees like CE and EE. Covid already nuked the credibility of my degree and AI has all but made it a non factor

I have only one pseudo internship related to my field and it was a fucking disaster and I did not learn anything or get anything of value out of it due to mismanagement and lack of ambition at the time

I am proficient with C, Assembly and Linux/Unix systems but I have no relevant experience in any actual field where these skills are useful at all

All of my personal projects are half finished and do nothing of use, and are basically just shitty versions of things that already exist

I have absolutely 0 faith in myself and I have no idea how to transfer my school knowledge to actual useful employable skills at this point

To anyone who is currently in school, don't do what I did, don't waste your precious opportunities. The only point of school now is to network. If you aren't networking you are wasting your fucking time.

I'm 27, working a dead end job and have nothing else going on in my life, I've basically given up on myself entirely

cool story Ranjeet
>>
it's okay, you got a degree at least and born in the first world. unless you were born in india, then I recommend you to jump the nearest bridge.
>>
Yeah, It's over for you OP. It's time to end it all.
>>
So do a bunch of things with ai and see where it gets you.

Just become a teacher, bro. All you need is your BS and some training.
>>
>>110114185
I considered this. Although I was under the assumption that I'd need a masters to be a professor at any university.
>>110114155
>>110114125
I'm a white guy in america who graduated with a million indians, many of which were the stupidest people i ever met and now have jobs because they networked
>>110114180
I guess, I'm not even sure what to do to look good on a resume. Besides embedded type projects but even that anything I made would look like a pathetic high school project to anyone interviewing me
>>
>>110114233
don't do what would look good on resume. you've already given up, remember. what do you _want_ to do? Why did you start CS?
>>
>>110114233
>d need a masters to be a professor at any university.
For uni yeah. And some cometitive places like NYC want it. Just be a higschool CS teacher. Or if you teach calculus with the goddie goodie nerds its pretty chill

I enjoy anything involving low level programming. As a kid I wanted to make games but I'd rather kill myself than work at a game company

I guess because I only enjoy low level programming my only real options are either embedded or maintaining some very old system

Ronald Reagan basically reinvented himself after his acting career failed, it's not as over as you think

>I have a job
So there's no problem
Some people don't even have that, you're spoiled

you made a mistake and that's totally ok a lot of people do but remember something's going to happen and you can get out ahead of that if you're smart

Pretty similar to you except I have no work experience. I do have a ton of homelab experience with Linux and networking, doing some fairly complicated things with ZFS and virtualization, but no real world experience and a 3 year gap. Wondering if I should try to become a Linux maintainer, or if that's even worth it over either a) trying to get some kind of factory job or b) trying for helpdesk or something similar.

Work on esp32 devices or similar. There’s a big market for that and they’re getting more popular by the day. A lot v of that stuff is heavily vindictive now but your v training will make it easier for b you n to read technical manuals like chip specifications and do things like immutable security by encrypting code or key value stores and then blowing fuse traces to prom registers. IOT security is generally shit so if you can demonstrate shipping sector code then you look like a genius. Go to m5stack.com or lilygo and start messing around with their great, it’s flexible and fully open but also looks shiny and consumer ready.

You are not alone. Either all billionaires are exterminated or it will be better for the whole world to burn to ashes.

as long as you are alive OP you can still make something happen

Tackling "computer science" without a background in philosophy doesn't make sense to me, just like doing a bachelor in psychology without a minor in philosophy.

yeah no you definitely fucking aren't, LOL.

ok at least willing to admit the project repos pipedream is kill, good.

anon we are facing a paradigm the world has never seen before. as much as people will yap to you about printing presses and y2k just throw all that shit out. those that know, know with a burden.

"programming" is unironically pretty much solved. anyone srs has known this for months. however, this does not remove the need for a warm body in a seat—a human signing off.

i ball busted on not knowing C & ASM because no-one in your position can genuinely claim proficiency in them. very few can, and it's easy to weed out.

are you able to """prompt engineer""" in VS Code and work diligently on ~50k LoC CRUD slop 4 hours a day, 5 days a week?
are you willing to take responsibility for what those PRs introduce to the team and prod?
can you answer and reason for all of it, even slightly?
is your mind open to learning what patterns lead to good vs bad outcomes?
do you shower everyday and shave every other? can you engage in smalltalk and be a functional cog in a team?

if you can, guess what: you have the in. the hardest part is playing it up on the legalese line to score an interview, and selling yourself to someone who doesn't give much of a fuck anymore.

if you care, if you are smart, if you CAN be proficient, you will be wanted. simple as.
