why is everyone rewriting literally everything in rust? is it that much better than c/c++ as far as low level languages go?
>>

Masturbation Lang of the decade but do you actually use any of these rewritten apps? I sure don't

Rust claims to be safe, so less problems for publishers. People see jobs for rust, so they put more rust in their portfolio

Rust has a steep learning curve, but once you know it, it's the best. Thanks to AI, anyone can use rust effectively.

No one knows how to code properly anymore and Rust has built in guardrails for retards. It is legit going to become the hegemonic programming language simply because of this.

except for the retards that designed the cargo package system, which will inject malware into your system,

and except for the retards that make the stdlib and most libs that require tons of unsafe {} code; those libs aren't safer or more reliable than the corresponding C++ libs. For example, not so long ago the vector stdlib had cases where it segfaults, etc.
>>
>>110114953
they should be rewriting c++/rust slop in a real language (c)
>>
>>110114953
It’s just a trend
only joke projects like linux actually allowed people to rewrite in rust
real engineering feats eg: the BSD’s, hardware firmware, high perf db’s, game engines etc… still use C/C++

Rewriting things that already work in your memelang of choice is simply standard behavior when think programming is fun but have no real project to work on.

>why is everyone rewriting literally everything in rust?
because they are stupid and you will understand why below
>is it that much better than c/c++ as far as low level languages go?
no.
Rust isn't a low level language and it's slow.
If you want to write fast rust you have to write unsafe rust and unsafe rust is retarded C.
miri, clippy, the language borrow-checker give up on low level logic, so you are writing something close to machine but you have rust as an extra layer of garbage.
Also rust isn't crossplatform. You can't really ship binaries in everything you want. It supports only the mainstream operating systems and drops older systems without caring about the market. Wouldn't you want to sell your software to any system you want?
another useless crap that rust has is that you always have to use wrappers for calling system libraries. What is the purpose of putting extra layers? It increases complexity, tech debt and dead weight in your code for no reason.
that being said, rust isn't crossplatform, rust doesn't let you work low level, it in-fact makes it more complex and the language just gives up.
Rust also doesn't scale well. Compiling the project I work on, 85-15% c/c++ and rust ratio, the 85% takes 300MB of ram and 500MB of disk to build nearly 450k LoC, rust takes 12GB of ram and 4GB of space. The resulting libraries are 8-10 times bigger than the C ones.
It's a bad tool for the job. It's all backwards.
>>110115144
I will add to this guy's post the fact that every rust dev I've had the chance to work with, they were a lot, they are failed C++ or python/js devs, with low technical knowledge.
Rust pretends to do things differently, but they do it the same way the other languages do, but with a different names... yeah rustards are "special".
Another thing that bothers me is how littering writing rust is. They managed to make a language worse than C++ in terms of syntax... which is why it's ridden with macros
>>
>>110114953
no one is literally rewriting everything in rust. it's just ai slop.
>>
>>110115488
cont'd
I didn't even scratch the surface with rust.
The fundamental problem with the language, it's also with C++, is that it's not a standardized tool.
>b..but C++ has standards
yeah, and those standards change every couple of years.
Languages that aren't stable, are going to end up like C++.
C++ started as a very light language, basic concepts that you could build anything... and it took 35 years to become horrible.
Well rust managed to start as C++17 in terms of convoluted garbage and within 3 years has surpassed C++23.
You will always be left behind. No matter how much you will work with the language, you will be left behind.
Let's say you start working today on a 5 year old codebase. It's most likely on edition 2021.
If you work for them for 5 years and then leave, it's 2031 and you have been on an obsolete for the market language.
You have to learn essentially a new language, learn the new patterns, the new tools the new crates, the new cargo quirks, etc. So you will have to learn a new language every time you look for a new job.
I've had the same problem with C++11 and older 6 years ago, because the "new" and "cool" projects were adopting C++17, you had to pass the review in C++17 and you went on to work on a codebase of C with classes, but they thought that getting a C++17 guy would mean that the project turn into C++17.
The good with C (I also work with verilog for the same reason) is that they are stable languages and C99 has everything you need and runs everywhere, it is supported by all the compilers and development is a breeze.
You will realize that memory corruption bugs are not a big part of system development.
You will create your libraries and you will eliminate everything
For example I had to fix recently a bug where HANDLE on windows was reserved by the code but the retard who wrote it didn't close it as some point and also at some other point closed it with evthandle, instead of closehandle. rust can't fix logic bugs.
useless.

idk, if rust trannies were such good coders, wouldn't they be able to write even better programs in C?

C gives them even greater control over the hardware than "memeory safe" rust

i'm starting to nootice that maybe the rust trannies aren't that good at what they do, at all....
>>
>>110114953
Yes. C is a terrible language that should've been buried ages ago, but the people in this industry are just utterly retarded and decided to build everything in it instead. And C++ takes everything that is bad about C and adds a dozen boatloads of their own utterly fucking stupid ideas, making everything even worse.

Sirs everyone know the cpp is best for good softweres, the rust is over complex and won't be around long

It's only nocoders and Cniles complaining about rust, also ironic quote

Rust projects and dependencies are easy to setup and the language is very rigid which compensates for slop. It's fairly good pick for contemporary AI. In past they were being filtered hard by borrow checker, but now they are quite smarter than cniles so they can use Rust efficiently.

>is it that much better than c/c++ as far as low level languages go?
No. C is kind of shit but C++ is not far from Rust.
Whenever C++ or Rust is better comes down to what you want really. C++ has more jobs, Rust has nicer tools and docs. C++ has more mature libraries, Rust makes it easier to actually use libraries. C++ is multiparadigm with many ways to do one thing, Rust focuses of having one robust way of doing a thing. C++ is OOP, Rust is FP. C++ is easy to learn hard to master, Rust is the opposite. C++ has more usecases but Rust excels at what it actually can do.
It all depends on your preference and needs. They accomplish similar things in very different ways.

i do see the value in rust, and it does have a lot of stuff i like about it
but just writing code in it i find immensely unfun

xz. That's all I'm gonna say.

it's that simple.
and by that i mean everything will become rust because rust will be the first solved language by le LLMs
screencap this. you read it here first. seethe at it in due time.

I have my agent build all my shit in rust and it's glorious. It almost feels like cheating how good it is.
>>
>>110114953
I guess this is as good of a time as any to ask, but what exactly does Rust do that Ada and Spark don't or can't do?
>>
>>110114953
its a more pleasant language to work with, c/cpp is so shit people invented various other awful langs like java and C# who tend to be much slower and buggier simply because they dont want to use c/cpp
>>
>>110114953
There's people actually leaving Rust back to C++. It's a terrible language.
>>
>>110116230
well written cpp and well written rust will look very similar
poorly written rust will almost always look better than poorly written cpp because of the guard rails built into the language. this is pretty cool if you are working in a team full of actual apes
>>
Utilizing Rust alongside LLM appears to be for promotion. Rust is more attractive for enthusiasts.
>>
>>110114953
Rust weekend rewrite projects are abandoned at a staggering pace btw. The lang looks really popular with all these new projects being started, until you look at the growing trash heap.
>>
>>110115647
>You will always be left behind. No matter how much you will work with the language, you will be left behind.

I feel this is more of a personal issue. You don't have to stay up to date with every single dang thing, you can just pick what works for you and go ham. You only want to stay up to date with features that are really exciting and promising.

It's like Neovim, you could keep tinkering with it 24/7 for the rest of your life. The point is you don't have to, just work with what you like.
>>
>>110116151
People don't complain about Rust though, they complain about the troons trying to force-meme it.

Irony is completely lost on you.
>>
>>110116953
The Rust syntax is pure eye cancer. I don't even know of anything comparable except for maybe Malebolgia or whatever that joke lang was called.
>>
>>110116953
There are people moving from any language to any language.
>>
>>110117277
>People don't complain about Rust though
Literally every Rust thread is full of people complaining that Rust is a terrible, unreadable, bloated, feature-lacking, insecure, backdoored language. This one included.
>>
>>110117357
Yeah they're telling you your forced meme is shit.
>>

>wE'rE gOiNg tO KilL C aNd C++

>>110116151
it's jeets and (((jeet masters))) actually.
cnile is a made up stereotype. rust was effectively developed by C developers and functional language enjoyers. the two groups (which are not completely separate btw) united because they hated the ever-bloating incoherent bureaucracy the nocoder from your picrel founded.
>>
>>110117660
>bureaucracy the nocoder from your picrel founded

I don't know if you've ever read about that time, but he didn't have much of a choice.
>>
>>110114953
They do it because none of the Rust libraries are GPL. They want to get you away from a GPL ecosystem
>>
>>110116343
You do realize that the XZ backdoor incident isn't related to any language's features at all? It's a maintainer/trust issue. The backdoor could have just as well been implemented in rust if XZ was a rust project. Rust doesn't have magical features that prevents you from writing backdoors.
