Why are wireless monitors not a thing yet? We already have wireless storages(cloud).
>>
They have been a thing for 2 decades now, windows 8 support them natively
>>
>>110116105
I meant hitting mainstream like every normie have one
>>
>We already have wireless sneeds(chuck).
>>
>>110116110
Because they aren't practical?
Input lag
Prone to interference
That's why you still wire up all your house with cat6/7
>>
>>110116126
It's not the 2000s anymore. If we can stream 4k over the internet why can't we stream 4k internally?
>>
>>110116072
There's a good chance they'll become extremely popular very soon. Normies will just give the monitor full internet access when they hook it up and click right past the ToS. That's hundreds of millions of new residential IP address to scrape the internet for AI training.
They already do it with smart TVs but gaymers and businesses still want "vanilla" monitors.
>>
>>110116164
Yes they love their electromagnetic radiations and cooking what little remain of their brains with bluetooth ipods
>>
Linus made a video on a product that did that a few years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kojTyPdhp3s
>>
>>110116196
not watching your e-friend tiktok slop
>>
>>110116202
then die
>>
>>110116072
Already happened, it's called Miracast or AirPlay if you use Faggot products.
If you mean hardware solution, it is totally meme and worse than hook up a HDMI cable.
>>
>>110116140
I said it was impractical not impossible, like I said, the tech has been here for over 2 decades, I just streamed from my laptop to some Samsung display at 4K 3 years ago. Just go and get it you double nigger
>>
>>110116072
of course this post is bait, but i'll bite
...have you ever looked at how much bandwidth your average hdmi/displayport cable carries? completely lossless uncompressed video is huge, especially at high resolutions/refresh rates/bit depths
even stuff like plain old dvi-d and early hdmi versions were already 10 gbps, nowdays for >180hz or >1080p you need at least 20 gbps usually, transferring 20 gigabits per second wirelessly and reliably with low latency is just impossible
>but what about using lossy compression
yes of course that's an option and it is already used with stuff like miracast and the likes (>>110116105) but the effect this has on video quality and latency is massive, also encoding a 4k 120 fps video stream even while using hardware encoding will add a bit of power draw as well which lossless uncompressed doesn't have
and for what use case exactly? your monitor already needs a power wire, and it's not like you are moving it around and shit, it's just a problem that doesn't exist for which a solution would be very complicated.
>>
As big of a shitshow as the Wii U was overall I was really impressed by the tablet controller. You really feel no fucking lag at all when you play games on that thing even though the input signal from the tablet travels to the main system wirelessly and the video signal in turn has to travel wirelessly to the screen.
>>
>>110116140
That 4k is streamed with heavy compression, including color compression (yuv420p) and has too much latency. Video compression is also heavy on hardware.
>>
>>110116621
You may not notice the compression much in movies, but for desktop use, especially interactive use it's very noticeable.*
>>
>>110116072
>Bluetooth monitor
You want to look at your desktop via a (at most) 3Mbps video signal? Even Youtube videos get more bitrate than that.
>>
>>110116621
>>110116629
nta but valve's recently introduced pyrowave codec (https://github.com/Themaister/pyrowave) that's built specifically for local in home streaming aims at resolving both of these issues and i'm pretty excited to see it implemented as streaming over h264/5 general purpose encoder has always been shit
>4:4:4
>visually lossless compression
>very light on hardware, can run very fast on general purpose gpu shaders
>since it's very fast and not constrained by the design of hardware encoders, also potentially very low latency
of course this will still make no sense as an hdmi/displayport substitute like OP is implying, but for streaming between vr headsets and shit it seems not a bad compromise.
btw i'd argue that streaming 4:4:4 with modern codecs at high bitrates isn't really that big of an issue already but yeah 4:4:4 hardware support is spotty and still it comes with very high latency.

3 mbps?
...cd quality lossless uncompressed audio (1411 kbps) is still unachievable on bluetooth, it currently can only do (usually) 320 kbps at best, LDAC can theoretically reach 990 kbps but it pretty much never does unless the two devices are an inch apart, you are vastly overestimating bluetooth's capabilities, it's way worse than you imagine.
>Even Youtube videos get more bitrate than that
most 1080p60 av1 videos on youtube are less than 3 mbps actually, but yeah you aren't getting that type of encoding quality in real time with a basic computer hardware asic and it would still look horrendous of course (as youtube does)

>>110116485
>your monitor already needs a power wire,
I also want it to be rechargeable

yeah making single player games show no input lag is easy

except it's really fuzzy looking 480p, even though the screen is very small, i always found it unusable just due to how bad it looks
not to mention the wifi range on that thing was also abysmal, literally couldn't travel a single wall before completely crapping out
I did actually own a wii u and these two things combined made the entire feature pointless/unusable.
>>
>>110116072
I get it, but it's just not that easy to do, and not really worth it. A mouse? You'll move it around, same for your laptop, your smartphone... but a monitor? It stays in place, no issue with a few wires, just do cable management.
>>
>>110116072
>Wireless
Why don't you strap on your wireless parachute and jump off a cliff, you faggot?
>>
>>110118258
I bet you also screeched when bluetooth headsets where invented
>>
>>110117565
>It stays in place, no issue with a few wires, just do cable management.
Same can be said for pcs yet they still made laptops
>>
>>110118358
Yes and I will continue to do so
>>
>>110116072
Most wires aren't even fast enough some video signals... I have to use compression 4K240.
>>
>>110116072
>wireless monitors
Please don't...
>>
>>110120092
>>110120107
You dont need to buy them you fucking luddites
>>
What's the point. You move around the monitor that much? You would need a battery too. I don't see how it's practical
>>
>>110116140
That 4k over the internet only streams at a half-decent bitrate when you're on wired, retardbro.
>>
>>110120409
Cables are just not aesthetic.
>>
Van Eck phreaking
>>
>>110116072
I've bought and used multiple HDMI transmitters/receivers and they always shit the bed after a few months. They're a complete meme. Also the latency sucks ass. You're always better off using wired and there's plenty of ways to hide the cables if you're OCD about that shit.
>>
>>110121397
Faggot
>>
usecase?
>>
>>110124762
Same with wireless mouse, keyboard and headset
>>
oh boy that's just what we need less wires
>>
wait, wait, wait. WHAT THE FUCK?
WHY DO YOU WANT A WIRELESS MONITOR?

I.. I'm trying to explain it but I cannot.

>I can move the monitor wherever I want.
If you don't have a phone-size monitor you can't.

>Because technology has developed
Still no need for a "wireless monitor"

I won't even mention the input lag problem.
>>
>>110125600
you're right for mouse and keyboard. But wireless headset is need, really need. for example: you're listening music on PC and you just stand up for take a coffee.
>>
This thread is approaching the same territory as tech bros reinventing trains but worse while trying to invent new ways to move things around.
>>
>>110116072
You still need to plug in a cord for power
Wake me up when the entire monitor is cordless and wireless
>>
>>110126264
>What is lithium batteries

set up blueprints for a lithum battery powered wireless monitor with blueteeth
