what is the point of this piece of shit who thought it was a good idea to make this monstrosity and why is it mainstream? it's not hard to write some html and slap some style and make some database. instead someone who worked here before decided lets use word press because it's uhhhhhhhhhh le hecking popular for some reason and now i need to keep the "legacy" going
WordPress is bloated garbage for techlets that want to larp as savvy nerds who run blogs and e-shops. WordPress gives me the ick and wordpresssers should eck
Plugins.
>>110118822>pluginswhat about>nuget packages>rust cargos.>npm modules why develop for that hunkajunk instead of anything else that is not crap?
I meant ack not eck. Fucking steam deck anon lives rent free in my mind
>>110118809>it's not hard to write some html and slap some style and make some databaseMaybe not for you mr turbonerd. Some people have a life.

>>110118809back when wordpress was created, the LAMP stack was pretty much your only choice for a CMSthe other popular CMS at the time like Drupal and PHP-Nuke were also PHP based for that reasonas to why it's still mainstream, is because old habits die hard. once a community of plugins, support and guides is built around it, it becomes the lazy and appropriate choice for a lot of shitty blogs and restaurant websites, so it has sticking powersame reason we won't be getting rid of React any time soon even if better solutions exist
>what is the point of it?It's for people that want to either self-host their blog or do it on a cheap VPS for $5 a month rather than paying $20 or more for some solution that they have no control over.>why is it mainstream?Because it's easy to set up. A small business owner (or often some freelancer working for the business) can just install it in an afternoon. Congrats, you now have a brochure site to show off your business, you can also have people churn out blog posts, etc. You can build contact forms or even e-commerce solutions (via plugins) if you want to go further.>it's not hard [to code basic bitch websites]You're right, a 14 year old me could churn out even dynamic websites with PHP, including features that used a database. The issue is always practicality. Most people aren't programmers, and even most programmers generally don't want to roll their own solution for something that already exists and works fine. If my or my friend's personal site I coded got hacked, it was seen as funny. Whereas if you're running an actual business you want to run software that's been around, that other people use, so it's being actively maintained and has a community around it.
>>110118993>CMSWrite html files in vim. Make an index.html with all your html files. Keep it all in git and clone it to /var/www/Why do you need anything other than this?>muh storefrontYou really want to do payment processing from scratch instead of just linking to stripe? >muh retardsWord can edit html just like docx files with all the WSYIWG for people who can't use vim.I've never understood "CMS"
>>110118809Now that AI coding exists there is limited upside on Wordpress. It is ultimately because designing the visual of a website is hard for most people. The other problem is that people are sheep and want their site to look exactly like other sites. Be the change you wish to see in the world.
>>110119013>I've never understood "CMS"the point is to give non-technical people a means to edit and publish on a website without having to mess with html files like you describe
