>there is no community version of windows 7
>>110120138>community version?
>>110120953*no foss vibe decomp of windows 7
>>110121016... not yet.
>>110121016>decompIsn't that illegal? On top of that Windows has a shit ton of third party software in it, or so I heard
>>110120138ummmm
>>110121088>third party softwareIt's mostly drivers
>>110121041what for?
>>110121016>*no foss vibe decomp of windows 7LiberNT is our best hope. It is expected to look and feel like Windows 7, also offering an optional Win98 theme from what I've seen, while being as compatible with modern hardware and software as Windows 11 is.
>>110121408Because modern Windows is unusable shit and Linux, as good and easy as it can get, can't really replace Windows, so some of us dream about an updated 7.
>>110121157
>>110120138Fedora KDE
>>110121552>can't really replace Windowsit would if more people actually spent time not only writing down what the hell they mean by this but also collaborating to bring the exact feeling of the software to open source spaces where they can be further refineddo you really expect linuxfags to understand you? they couldn't even get monitor layouts and audio sinks working properly until recent yearsspare a little of your time and you'll see things get better, the world can be a better place
>>110122401NTA but>can't really replace WindowsThis usually means application compatibilitythere's decades of work software that runs only on windows for example, so people can't easily transition off of windows and onto using that software. Proton has gotten very good with steam investing into it and developing it further, but it still is somewhat intimidating and complicated to set up for programs like Adobe's suite, or etc and can run into issues and require specialized start flags (like ntdll), weird font sizing issues (that don't resolve with new font packs or dpi scaling), etc. I still keep a VM just for running Adobe Animate 2015 CC for example.
>>110121511LiberNT is based on ReactOS. ReactOS is so bad it would be easiler to start over than fix that broken mess of a codebase. Basically every single line of code is suspect and needs a total do-over.
