The entire Plex Player team just got laid off and the currently released version of the player is in a completely broken state that literally won't play any 4K video. What the fuck is the company even doing? Are they about to declare bankruptcy?
>>
>>110137086
you can still give them money on their website
that's all that matters
>>
>>110137086
Why don't they just vibe code the fixes?
>>
Considering how dogshit it has become in the last year they were right to fire them. Maybe they can dig up a better group of jeets.
>>
It's funny, they paid $500 to the guy who found a remote code execution zero day. That's it. What a bunch of Jews!
>>
>>110137701
he probably should have asked for more.
>>
>>110137742
Depends how much he paid in AI tokens to figure it out.

Christ above the last 2 years have been shit but this is just unbelievable. Very thankful I've begun hosting Jellyfin.
>>110137701
Is that really how they found out about their most recent server bug?
>>
>>110137742

That's blackmail you POS.
>>
>>110138571
Yep. 3rd worlder from Serbia dropped it.
>>
plexsisters are you enjoying your lifetime subscription? seems it's run out LMAO
>>
You know there's going to be people in this thread saying that they bought the lifetime subscription before the price went up and they're happy as is. Works on their machine. It doesn't need updating, and so on. The sunk cost fallacy is very high with Plex users. It's sad. It's like seeing an abused animal.

Lucked out is more like it. There was a period of time between 2020 and 2024 where I Was using it regularly on the go, but that was more due to the fact that their streaming wasn't paywalled. Once that hit I switched to other, locally hosted alternatives. So ultimately, never paid for it or lost any real meaningful functionality when they started grubbing for shekels.
>>
>>110137086
I'm building the Plex killer and replacement right now in my free time. I will post it here when it's ready. You'll know it's me because the GitHub readme will have some good on the nose pokes at plex's decisions over the last few years.

You faggots always pop in and say this shit but it's always on threads and issues that not issues to lifetime plex pass holders. Usually the threads are about some feature being locked behind a paywall that lifetime users already have. In this case nothing has happened
>>
>>110137086
should had realized this when they jacked the fuck out of their lifetime subscription and sent shills here, they're in dire straits despite the shitloads of paypigs they have

I have Jellyfin installed and tracking my library, but I still use Plex. I'm just waiting for an excuse to use Jellyfin full time. If they fired all those people just to replace them with AI I'm fucking done, bro.
>>
>>110138955
Hello mandatory Plex cope poster. Does a team of developers being fired, a fix not able to be merged, and one of those developers explicitly telling you it's time to move away from Plex count as "nothing happening?"
You know this means no more features for the player ever, right? Does that seem like something a company who intends to keep providing you with their product would do?

they had a sweet time could looked after everyone for life

the company didn't have to grow to become netflix sized or whatever
now they're charging crazy prices, shoving in ads and tv in a section nobody wants, now they're firing people
shit was sweet then they fucked it all up

Plex's only point of difference is signing subdomain certificates which allow clients to securely find servers over the Internet with zero configuration. Any of it's competitors could spin up such a service almost trivially, but to-date none have.

The day that comes, I'll shift off Plex. Or when Plex stops working. Whichever comes first.

>>
>>110137086
Look at how shit the update was. The player is completely broken lmao... Are you actually saying they DIDN'T deserve to lose their job?

It's so fucked that I just re-enabled Jellyfin and disabled Plex for now until they fix it. Pray to Allah that it's either not permanent, or someone actually makes a TV and mobile app that isn't just some guy's passion project that only displays TV shows and movies (no personal media) and is only ever available on Android. People are still having to install developer mode apps onto LG TVs lol.

The state of Jellyfin apps is a disgrace.

Silo will mog both of these apps with ease. It's written in Go so literally everyone can understand the code instantly with zero effort and modify things with very low chance of bugs due to how simple and easy and clear to follow it is. I installed it and it's excellent but currently not useable due to not supporting "Other Videos" yet (just movies and TV Shows).
>>
>>110138664
Yes I paid 75 or something for 5 years of apps which were DRAMATICALLY better than the disgraces Jellyfin constantly push... Backend Jellyfin yeah great, that's only part of the experience, I also want to open it on my TV and not have every folder take years to load.

It's only become good recently with things like Wholphin which obviously piss all over the official Jellyfin app. But where is the LG WebOS Wholphin?
>>
>>110138679
It's nothing to do with sunk cost. Fat anime autists who sits at a computer screen all day don't ever leave their browser window so they forget that things like TVs and tablets and mobiles even exist and NEED to have commercial grade apps. When the only apps that exist are garbage, the program is unusable. It's kind of getting fixed now thanks to third party apps... Jellyfin's developers though, are those fat autists who forget anything but their internet browser exists.
>>
>>110137086
Lmao kodi Chads stay winning. Muh troonnscoding! Faggots
>>

>>
>>110138664
Yeah, it's been great. I paid something like 70 bucks and have gotten over a decade of trouble-free service for that. Jellyfin didn't even exist when I first started using Plex. It's quite amusing that the turd worlders of /g/ think it's some epic own, but then I guess 70 bucks is a month's wages in your country.

It's open source it works and if there's a feature I want or something I can just fork it and vibe code the feature into it.
I ended up sending the Jellyfin team what I paid for the Plex lifetime license as a donation.

Why use navideome when jellyfin supports audio and you can use clients with a better UI like finamp or feishin?

Fair enough. FWIW, Navidrome supports more audio tags than Jellyfin - for example, disc subtitles ('bonus disc', 'remastered 2018 reissue'), track subtitles ('live' / 'remix'), etc.
>>
>>110137086
I realize most neckbeards here never held actual jobs, but anyone that has knows that basically every company is still way bloated with ~40% of employees that do jack shit, ~40% doing the bare minimum to not get fired, and maybe 10-20% doing actual work. If you got laid off, then you weren't worth anything to the company. Simple as that. Plex is still and always will be 3-5 years ahead of Jellyfin so I'll keep using it with the rest of the Plexchads that bought lifetime plex pass.
>>
I don't know why they so desperately wanted to have this legal front page that made the experience worse for their core customers.

>>110150625

The only thing they have going for them was broad app support on smart tvs, consoles. You can run Plex' client anywhere. And they pissed that away with a lot of unmaintained stuff and general rot.
