>Android that's not bloated>Decent enough camera>Swappable keyboard>Just werks with all your banking apps and maps>Still a dumb phone form factor that doesn't make doom scrolling appealing with shorts or tiktoks>Signal just werks Android apps just werk>Sub $300, and you can actually buy it now with a case accessories and swappable mods. Why the fuck did it take so long for someone to make this at this price range? Every other Android dumb phone that was well made was $700+ like the light phone.
I have a flip phone
>>110148831>Every other Android dumb phone that was well made was $700+Moto G is like $200, nigga.
>>110148862That's not a dumb phone that's a smartphone. A dumb phone has to at least have a form factor like a t9 or flip phone that prevents you from using it like a regular smartphone. It's supposed to be a phone with just the essentials but with modern features like maps banking and the only way you're getting that is with Android. The problem is dumb phones never came with Android except a few obscure Chinese ones that have very bad T9 support and no real support for US carriers. Then you have stuff like the punkt phone which which had no apps so it failed, was too expensive and had no camera. light phone failed which is a minimally designed phone in software, with Android but costs $700 and didn't really have a dumbphone form factor.
But why?I would rather have a phone with a large screen and physical qwerty keyboard. But since I can no longer get a physical qwerty, I take just the large screen then.
>>110148910People are addicted to their YouTube shorts and tikky tokkies
>>110148831>i need my phone to be more expensive and objectively worse, otherwise i WILL doomscroll and watch tiktokthe hardware is not the issue anon
>>110148981>Just let a drug addict have free meth in a room when they are trying to get sober! Don't limit their access just leave it to them to not touch the pipe and bag of meth in the room instead of removing them.A sidephone isn't more expensive than any other phone that wasnt the problem. To live in the modern world you need a smartphone with Android. For multiple reasons. Maps, 2FA authenticator, photos and a decent camera for work, and specific apps like Uber and banking, cashing checks with a photo, whatsapp etc etc. All these are non negotiables in every day life that can actually negatively affect you if you don't have whatsapp. You have to have them. A smartphone OS is a tool everyone uses and you are expected to have one.So the only solution is an android dumb phone that is designed to limit doomscrolling by hardware and form factor with a small screen but still does stuff fine. There's a reason it exists
Cool, another phone that 5 people are going to buy.And then a year from now OP will be making another thread about the penisphone #2012 that has a ps2 port and 3 headphone jacks and will lecture everyone about why this is so important and that we are all wrong for using normal phones
>>110149130You can use any phone you want but doom scrolling isn't good for you
Why do people act like smartphones that are designed to distract you are not designed to distract you and they are the chosen ones that will just stop using these apps.Using a smartphone with full features is begging for you to be addicted because it's designed that way. Willpower doesn't work.
>>110148910you have options
>>110149234the bricks themselves aren't that distracting, without internet they're just voice/video recorders and photographs
>>110148831The site asks $434 AUD for me. I'd rather just buy an older iPhone for that money as I have almost no attachment to my phone.
>>110149234I have had a fully featured iPhone for over 10 years now and still have never put any social media apps on it. I don't even browse 4chan on it because the mobile web experience sucks way too much.
>>110148981>the hardware is not the issue anonIt is though.
>>110148831>Swappable keyboardIs it too much to ask for a sliding keyboard instead of this retardation?
>>110149349Anything mechanical like that (sliding, flipping, turning) won't ever be made again because it would require some amount of quality control, which they will never do.
>>110148831>>110148910>>110149349I don't understand making such a small keyboard swappable either. What sort of variant keyboards do they even have in mind? Or if not keyboards, that position seems awkward for anything that's not an input.>>110149385But folding screens are the current hotness.
>>110149275>Blackberry portrait form factorEhhh
You're basically just describing cheap simple phones mainly meant for older folk. Those have been around for ages. But I guess it was "trendy" at one point for younger people to have dumber phones because they were rebels.Anyway personally think it would be just easier to simply not install tiktoks or whatever, than to buy a phone that has restrictions. Maybe it's just addict thing, that they don't have the willpower not to install applications to their phones. So they need that option removed totally.
>>110148831>dumb phone form factor that doesn't make doom scrolling appealing with shorts or tiktoksPEBKACOr, for the alphoomersSkill issue
>>110148831i just want>small form factor>minimal FOSS android>replacable battery>not ludicrously expensivebasically i want a phone from 10 years ago, is this possible in current year?
>>110148831>other Android dumb phoneAndroid = not a dumb phone
>>110149467How many people with a foldable phone have you run into in the last decade?I'll start: 2.
>>110149234>she was asking to be raped with that mini skirt, there was LITERALLY NOTHING i could do to prevent that outcomehave you considered just not installing tiktok on your phone
>>110148831Seems nice, been looking for something like this and the options so far have been too expensive and/or too gimmicky for my tastes.
>>110149770more like PE;PIK
>>110148831>Android that's not bloatedIt runs Android 1.5? Based.
>>110149906more like PENIS
>>110149281That doesn't work with the modern world. Having a smartphone OS like Android with internet access browser is inseparable with having a phone nowadays. Anyone who says otherwise is coping. If your dumb phone doesn't have Android it has already failed because the apps people rely on are so ingrained like even a web browser, Spotify, Whatsapp, 2FA, protonmail are the bare minimums. You can try to cope and get a dumb phone that is just a simple flip phone but what happens when you're in a crowded city that you don't know and you have to find a specific place by walking or you need very specific directions. Or what happens when you need to reply to emails or send PDFs or send links to people or talk to friends without doomscrolling.
>>110149821It is a dumb phone. It's not a smartphone. It is the perfect dumbphone aside from no microsd expansion and no keyboard lighting but the keyboard has a glow in the dark model. For starters the screen is so small that it's basically only good for using it for very light tasks that rely on texting like Whatsapp, using a web browser to check news, login to bank to disable cards or sell stocks, browse internet and QR codes for airport or trains tickets. It's not good for media consumption at ALL besides maybe music with a usb C dac.Secondly it doesn't have support for Google Play services and so many games won't work outright. And the processor is a low powered mediatek that's battery efficient. It's just Android for the sake of having maps, AI agent, whatsapp and productivity not social media or doomscrolling all day. Also the camera is 12mp slightly below average, but its serviceable and looks good, not terrible. So you can actually take decent photos.Light phone failed pretty much on all these along with the high $700 price because people cant install Instagram but they also cant install WhatsApp to communicate which like 99% of Europe uses and a large part of the world does. I don't even think light phone 3.Every other dumb phone is kind of irrelevant because they all suck or don't have the right balance, or haven't released, or are too expensive. Over $500+
>>110149234just uninstall all non essential (and i do mean, non essential) apps from your devicemodern smartphone apps are unfortunately too important, like >>110150220 said, to forego entirely. with my android i can go to a foreign country and instantly know how to move around, make transactions with minimal fees and translate everythinghaving to recreate this with physical maps and dictionaries would too painful and unnecessary... and you will always have that one public transport service, bike rental, etc that will need an android app necessary to operate, potentially ruining your whole day. the world is just too much of a nigger for feature phones or even linux phones
>>110149349The point of the T9 keyboard is to make it more frictioned so you'll spend less time on your phone. The keyboard is actually very tactile and good to type on if you're good at typing on T9. You people always say you want a dumb phone that does everything that modern Life can handle but when you get it you suddenly don't want it. I think it's the social media addiction it has you too hooked.Do you want a smartphone and stay Doom scrolling all day or do you want a dumb phone? Cuz you can't have it both ways fully. The problem with stuff like minimal with the keyboard is that people will just install Instagram and social media apps and YouTube again.
>>110149479>a perfect square is portraitnigger, are you retarded?
>>110150318it's just a fact that Android is so important nowadays. You have to have at least a web browser to use Google so if you're stuck in the middle of Bangkok Thailand or whatever or you need maps somewhere you're not stranded or like you said translation. The problem is side phone and I guess the dumb phone mini and I forgot the other one is really the only ones in a in the USA right now that exists that are at reasonable prices under $300 $300 is still expensive but it's nowhere near the light phone which is like 700
>>110150297>It is a dumb phone.No. Didn't read, btw.
All I know is smartphones have been a disaster for the human race. How many people stay up spiking their dopamine and cortisol while bright LEDs flash in their face. Because I guarantee it's probably 90% of the people in this thread
>>110149770If it was that easy why is it still a problem. You know it doesn't make you smart for ignoring facts right? Smartphones are designed to be addicting. That's like handing drugs to a drug addict after rehab and then being surprised when they relapse.Smartphones in their current capacity are inherently bad things to own.
>>110149207I am not doomscrollingI'm only using my smartphone to play solitaire. And take a phonecall every once in a while
>>110150220I own a smartphone with Android. I do have a web browser, i mostly use it to read the news (AP, NYT).I don't use spotify or any music streaming service. I just have a few dozen of my favorite albums loaded onto the phone. I switch some of the music out every now and then.I don't use whatsapp. I just text.I do use 2FA for work.I do not use any email service on my phone. It has been a problem once or twice when people could not reach me, but its well worth it to me to be able to disconnect from work when I'm out of the office. I also do not use any social media app. I have an e-reader on the phone and I read books when I have to wait in line or during my lunches. My point is, different people have totally different needs and usecases for their phones. Saying that certain apps or connectivity are requirements of modern phone use is just not true. I completely agree that the hardware has little to nothing to do with how people choose to use their phones, or with social media addition or doomscrolling. My phone is almost brand new and cost over a thousand dollars, but I just never installed those types of apps and I choose not to engage in that behavior, the same way I choose not to buy cigs and booze every time I'm in a gas station.
>>110148831>Android that's not bloatedWhat the hell is A12 OS ?
>>110148831Swap it out for what?
>>110150494>Smartphones are designed to be addictings/Smartphones/Social media goyslop apps
>>110150334People who say they want a dumb phone that does everything to reduce screen time never owned a dumb phone that does everything I was doomscrolling WAP and RSS on a grayscale phone (with unified filesystem, installable widgets, and cross-app clipboard) back when GPRS was new and iPhone did not exist.I was more proficient with T9 than I ever got with touchscreens from years of constant ICQ and XMPP texting.I tweaked Opera Mini to have smaller zoom/font than defaults allowed, to fit more of a desktop website at once.Getting a PDA got me doomscrolling LESS than on a dumb phone, because I could consume proper media on it instead.
>>110150361
>>110151685>I was more proficient with T9 than I ever got with touchscreens from years of constant ICQ and XMPP texting.God, I remember driving and texting and it was fine because I didnt need to see the screen. Just feel where the keys are, know where to press to say what.
>>110150334No, they really do want a dumb phone. It just requires the one thing dumb phones will never get (discord).Let's face it, everyone that genuinely knows that they prefer slide physical landscape keyboards only know it because they used it during the era between msn messenger and facebook. These ppl yearn for IM with comfort and the ability to do it without sitting at a desk. A dumb phone needs IM, email, gps, wifi antenna and preferably a dpad. Every dumb phone released in the past 10+ years is missing one or more of these.
>>110148880>dumb phones never came with AndroidDuh? Android is a smartphone OS. The point of a dumbphone is not having an operating system.
>>110148831I was excited but then saw this.
>>110152493Usually I consider this the gayest shit ever, but to be fair, I'd probably not mind it as much if I didn't have to use an oversized slab for it. Like in this case. Alas.
>>110148831>no proximity sensor >no headphone jack
