Not really, it can chew through assembly code and obfuscated code in hours to days that would take a human years to do.

This is probably going to accelerate the push by corporations to make everything cloud hosted subscription services with no distributed binaries.

However Opus is so good at fabricating things from vague prompts now, it really doesn't matter if you have the old code.

I'm still pissed they nerfed my ability to reverse games that are no longer making profit for anyone and are basically abandonware.
>>
>>110152165
how much of this reverse engineering trend depends on decompilation vs. observing the software's functionality? The latter clearly you can do nothing to prevent, but presumably the former you can by creating spaghetti code on purpose I would guess
>>

If true, sad. Reverse engineering is the only reason I'd touch LLM coding. I hope someone reverse engineers that one expensive blu ray authoring software and similar shit before it actually is nerfed for good.

LLMs are speeding up. The benchmarks just don't capture it well. Also, chinese models suck ass because they don't have reliable subscription plans. They just say the service is rate limited and steal your money or you have to go the API and effectively pay 5x as much as you would on a $200 claude or codex plan
>>
>>110152344
Let's start doing it then
>>
I got a job recently that's going to require a fair bit of reverse engineering, particularly with respect to embedded software. I don't require an LLM for this, since I know how my way around decompilers and disassemblers. Would my nice if Anthropic wasn't a bitch about reverse engineering though.

I did just think of something, if you protected your executable with some form of DRM, like a self decrypting mechanism and then put in text for the LLM to read saying this is a DRM mechanism and bypassing it is violating the DMCA you might be able to trigger the safe guards. However an experience reverse engineer would bypass that shit in less than an hour and dump the decrypted executable and then feed it to ghidra. It would stop the filthy casuals in theory though. You could also try prompt poisoning via strings in the binary and cause the LLM to go off the rails, however smarter models would probably safeguard against that too.
>>
>>110151841

Actually a good idea.
