I don't think I'm ever going to buy another AMD GPU.

Should've waited™ for RDNA5.
Radeon GPUs will only get better since they've committed to all the AI stuff they've neglected with RDNA2 & 3.
>'That's why RDNA2 & 3 were good!'
People wouldn't be celebrating the backporting of FSR 4.1 to these GPUs if that was the case.
>>
>>110165205
Completely fair.

There needs to be a hard disclaimer with any GPU that if you are experiencing crashes/issues, especially in the first 30 days when you never had issues before, return the shit immediately.

I made the mistake back in the day with an older AMD GPU with issues I've never experienced before in a GPU. I deluded myself that it would be fixed. Never was.

your budget can comfortably fit an rtx5080 even if it's only slightly better than the 5070ti/9070xt
sadly, no z790 ddr4 boards are in stock anymore so you'd have to settle with a b760. make sure the 14900k is set to run at intel recommended limits or it will throttle the motherboard's vrms. you probably should undervolt it too to let the chip stretch its legs within the fairly restrictive 253w/307a/1.10mOhm intel default limits

4080S is fine, it'll just perform about 90% as fast as a 5080 and has slightly older IO features like displayport 1.4 instead of dp2.0 on the 5080. Modders have also unlocked multi frame gen so the software gap has shrunk compared to a year ago
>RAM+Different motherboard
Are you planning on getting more ddr4 or ddr5? if ddr4, then get a kit of 2x16gb as it'll work better with modern motherboards. if you're planning on getting ddr5, you should consider amd's am5 platform (b850+9950x3d) or intel's lga1851 (z890+core ultra 270k+) too

NOVA LAKE LEAKS
>Intel Nova Lake-S early results leak, 24-core sample beats Core Ultra 9 285K and Ryzen 9 9950X3D in single-thread test
>The highest result attributed to a 24-core Nova Lake-S processor reaches 5,210 points in the single-thread test, followed by another submission scoring 5,191 points. For comparison, we selected baselines from existing processors with overall CPU Mark scores close to their published PassMark averages
>The Core Ultra 9 285K scores 5,059 points, followed by the Ryzen 9 9950X3D at 4,805 points and Core i9-14900KF at 4,635 points. This puts the fastest unnamed Intel sample around 3% ahead of Arrow Lake and 12% ahead of Raptor Lake Refresh in this particular test.
>The 24-core sample also achieves 61,509 points in the overall CPU Mark test, with another submission reaching 60,964 points. This puts it ahead of the Core i9-14900KF baseline at 58,074 points, but below the Core Ultra 9 285K at 67,274 points and Ryzen 9 9950X3D at 72,065 points.

NTA but i use opus 5.5 at work and it "feels" pretty much the same as the latest local models, while it might have more knowledge it certainly doesn't have more wisdom
keep in mind if you're using something like strata you're using a heavily quantized version of the model, at low BPW the model will start corrupting its own thinking traces, hallucinating random acronyms, etc
on a 5090 you should easily be able to run something like 6-bit qwen3.8-27B which will be more pleasant to use than 3-bit qwen3.8-flash-next

You can avoid hiding taskbar by using a 2nd lcd monitor, only using taskbar on one monitor and then using windhawk app to switch it to the secondary monitor.

You don't need 7 fans, you just need one exhaust and one intake. Airflow is a meme. The Lian Li A4-H2O can fit a 240mm and GPU's upto 322mm at only 11L.
>>
>>110170013
IDK why that other guy is recommending you set a pure white background for an OLED monitor.
You want pure black if you want to minimize burn in (pitch black shuts off the individual OLED pixels).
>>

I'd have considered a C4-SFX v2 but who knows when it's coming out. With the NR200 I can put two 120mm fans as exhaust up top, one 92mm as intake to cool the DDR5 and VRMs, and put a 280mm AIO in the side panel as intake. GPU should be fine without additional fans in the bottom but I can probably deshroud it and put in 2x 120mm fans if I wanted. also no riser cables required.

ASROCK B860 Challenger WIFI LGA1851 MB B860 CHALLENGER WIF

GIGABYTE GP-P650SS 650W 80+ Silver GP-P650SS

Zalman CHRONIX V2 Black ATX Case

Its for video editing/music production with some games on the side. Its about 1950EUR. My only worry is with intel, I know about their intel ME spyware shit and its bothering me lots but AMD supposedly has same shit so idk what to do. Thought about maybe going ryzen and then replacing graphics card with some shittier one. 1950EUR is kinda a lot.

I know very little about hardware and this is config I picked at first:

AMD Ryzen 7 7700
ASUS RTX 3060 Dual OC V2 LHR 12GB GDDR6
MSI PSU MAG A750GL PCIE5 II, 750W 80Plus Gold,

SSD 1TB WD Black™ SN7100 M.2 NVMe
Patriot Viper Venom PVV532G600C30K, 32GB DDR5 6000MHz, CL30
This one is about 100/200 euros cheaper

>windows laptops are some of the worst hardware purchases of all time, requiring huge powerbricks that need to be plugged in at all times and are loud as fuck
>only other option is paying the apple tax and getting something that is $3k+

holy FUCK I don't know what to do. I like to do 3D work which the apple chips actually do pretty well at nowadays, especially the cpu side of viewport rendering, but the apple goy tax is so expensive. I wish I could just teleport my desktop pc to where I go but that is quite literally not feasible

250K Plus ships with better factory tuned CPU frequencies.
It's either the 250K Plus or the AMD alternative.

I just took a look and it's essentially just a windows laptop with the same issues I mentioned before. in fact it's way worse with 8gb/12gb vram options which is far too limited

Thinking of getting a whole new setup, what would you guys do with the old parts?

I have a 2080ti or something along those lines which i bought for 700 squids like 6-7 years ago, would it even sell for anything now?
>>
i remember when everyone said that the 2080ti was very expensive at 1200

You'll maybe get £200 net if you sell it on eBay.uk
I'm keeping my old video card as backup, it has lower resale value than your 2080 Ti.
You can offset some of the ridiculous PC component prices if you sell major components like CPU, motherboard, & DDR4 memory for a decent sum.
>My parts are older than DDR4
You kept them for too long.

You need 55 to get max brightness might aswell

because it still shits on any monitor
>>
>>110172737
Yeah it's still twice as bright in hdr but full screen brightness will be lower than new qdoled monitors
And the actual flagships tvs 55+ are like 4 times brighter than the 42"
And you are getting a third tier panel just basic woled not even tandem not even qdoled
If you gonna take the tv pill might aswell buy the best

>but will people give a shit that it's 6 years old?
Make a note in the description that you never disassembled the cooler (factor seals intact).
Interested buyers will know the card's TIMs might need repasting/repadding.
>>
>>110172759
55"+ is for the living room its way too big for a desk setup, 42" is pushing it as well but you can make it work a lot easier.
>>
>>110172725
The bigger problem for you is to figure out how to safely pack it if you didn't keep the product box.
Use local selling options like Facebook Marketplace, you get to keep all the money this way.
I'd recommend you get an ESD bag if you plan to ship it.
>>
>>110172766
>also brightness for oled monitors is enough
for sdr sure, hdr brightness is lacklustre compared to TVs
>>
>>110172684
this one actually has true black600 certification which is a waste on a esports oriented panel
>>
>>110172766
>also brightness for oled monitors is enough
More brightness mean more color
In sdr full screen it's brighter but in hdr it's like 6 times or more brighter

>>110172785
The only thing that matters is distance to screen obviously 55 is too much for desk
That's why i said to need to mount
It's the only way you are getting bright qdoled at size larger than 32"
People are using 77" as monitors just fine

Haven't looked into building a PC I years. Heard about RAM prices being ridiculous but wtf

Am I just imagining things or has storage prices gone up too? Anything over 1tb seems ridiculously priced or similar to how it was when SSDs were new. What's going on?
>>
>>110173317
AI demand is soaking up memory chip supply. SSDs use NAND flash, and manufacturers are putting capacity into AI focused enterprise SSDs and into DRAM, which is more profitable. Samsung and SK Hynix are reportedly cutting NAND output, and a few companies control most of the market, so supply to consumers is tight.

Prices are expected to keep rising through 2026 and likely into 2027, and production lines take a long time to change. If you need storage, buying sooner is probably cheaper than waiting.

>>110173317
ai got good enough to look like there might be a use case for it after all and none of the big companies want to be the ones left behind so they are going crazy scaling out huge AI clusters.
it is probably a bubble insofar as not everyone is going to be the winner of the scramble but it hardly matters on the ground floor, the result is that prices of even seemingly unrelated components are effected because of shifting priorities as companies retool to meet this better paying demand

>>110173317
