Linux is less of an operating system rather than an operating system construction kit. It's flexible but you have to lock in to a specific distro like Red Hat for serious enterprise support.

What’s with the counter intelligence in here to get people back to Windows? Them being on Linux is making Windows better by proxy. When someone leave Windows for Linux, the experience improves on both platforms!

The way I see it game devs should just target windows and make games for windows, and then the looney toon schizos using weird esoteric niche OS's like Linux can vibecode some foss slop to make them semi-functional on Linux with performance loss, and a few bugs and broken features. That way everyone is happy. Making linux builds is retarded.

>>
ye, it could be a planned distribution control (he says its some passive-agressive imaginary dude) rather than a retarded ELF design and the fact every retard binds to LIBC by default.

though you cannot underestimate stupidity and put conspiracy over it. theres no conspiracy, its just retarded design, like "their" terminal protocol designs incapable of transmitting key codes or pastes or even wrap GUIs. GNUnix tech just follows microsoft.

Every new version of Windows looks like KDE from five years earlier. How long did it take them to finally create powershell? And then it still piped .NET objects instead of plain text which literally nobody wanted. I remember the day that garbage released and the Windows power users were flinging shit like no tomorrow. Microsoft is a first rate business and third rate software developer. They're good at manipulating the system to work in their favor but they couldn't create good software to save their lives.

Funny how the only person in the world with these issues also can't make a mobile-tier game run fine on a windows machine equipped with a 5090 after 10 years of dev time and millions invested.

They really don't. They just release it in the open and then distro maintainers waste time and energy building it for every distro that exists.

Of course the need for above severely limits the ability to release commercial software, so you don't get it - or if you do, it's provided as a service you have to specifically request for, instead of a simple executable available on the developer website after a quick payment.

>ate their own propaganda

otherwise, where it leads to, what is the outcome to that Bash/Powershell? ill tell you what, its an isolated echo chamber, irrelevant to further progress of the system.

mixing up programming language and shell breaks the separation of concerns principle. the attempt of JScript/VBScript was better put. powershell requires a heavy system wiring, services running "group policy", it doesnt interact with the OS directly. its some DSL that depends on services.

CLI shells better stay dumb simple. a better shell for windoze was already created, TUI-like NC, FAR - those shells.

the next step is creating a shell (and a terminal) in that high-level language

Wine is more stable than win32 because unlike actual win32, it can do that. Which is the problem with the article, it confuses wine win32 with actual win32. Wine win32 is not one abi but many.

What's the difference between those, when you ship your game through steam for example? Is x86_64 binary somehow different if it runs under Ubuntu and not Fedora? Games do not distributed via flatpaks, AURs, appimages, "whatever". It is a statically linked binaries, most of the time.

>What's the difference between those, when you ship your game through steam for example?
Steam (more specifically, Steam Linux Runtime) is another one of those platforms, though it is a bit hard to pin down because it reuses some features provided by its host platform, which could be many things.
>Is x86_64 binary somehow different if it runs under Ubuntu and not Fedora?
Yes. At minimum you're linking against different versions of libraries, possibly with entirely different versioning schemes and directory layouts. The layout of other files may also be vastly different.
>It is a statically linked binaries, most of the time.
Games are never static binaries, because that makes it impossible to load graphics drivers.

If you're a retard, your choices are Windows or MacOS.
It's really that simple.

The only reason why linux hasnt replaced windows as an alternative is a combination of things but mainly retarded devs that don't want to work and create a good desktop. I don't blame them either because coding takes time and nobody wants to work for free. But AI is now making devs obsolete.

The linux kernel itself, mesa drivers is great and runs on hundreds of millions of PC's and phones but the desktop/wayland situation is bad. Luckily wayland is finally getting good, and with AI we'll have decent desktops that aren't bloated with decades of legacy code.

I already started to make my desktop as a full replacement for KDE, coded in rust. Its 5.2mb and fully featured with animations and tiling, No retarded libraries, no legacy code, full filepicker, utillities that just werk. I oneshotted it with GPT 6. It just works fully. KDE is dead. People just want a windows 10 like desktop coded in linux thats fast, not bloated shit like KDE. My desktop is faster than XFCE and fully featured with full wayland and scaling support. 7ms median to open the file manager. and 5ms to switch directories.

big reason is driver vendors massive jewish cunts. jewvidya in particular doesn't let any non-approved drivers run thanks to signed firmware, all because they gimp their cards via software as a market segmentation strategy to prevent the goyim from unlocking their true performance that rivals workstation class cards

>you don't know what the window system is...you don't know if its X or Wayland alright
>you don't know if its Gnome or KDE or something else
As a game developer you shouldn't even care about that. You should target SDL, and it takes care of everything. If your game code has parts that directly accessing windowing system, desktop environment or input system then you're doing retarded shit. There are thousands of Linux native games and hundreds decomps now and none have such problems.
>that's on top of like you don't know what the libc
Assuming that he's talking about versioning. Complaining about glibc version is like complaining about how you can't make a Windows 7 compatible executable in Visual Studio 2026. Just use fucking older distro with older glibc, like Debian stable to be safe.

Everything that he listed are not real Linux issues and just exposed him as a midwit who didn't even bother to read about system he's developing game for. Today you can even ask any AI bot for the best approaches: https://chat.deepseek.com/share/c4y93ssc9ixwjhrgsd
There are a lot of native Linux games that just works, and there are 10 or even 20 years old binaries that are still fully playable on Linux. If you don't do retarded shit your game will just work.

I assume he meant that there are no games that distributed like a single executable (although he didn't say it directly, but I wouldn't expect this retard to know how to properly express his thoughts). The point is AI does the work, and desktop linux devs are the problem. Wayland is not a bad protocol in theory it just nobody wants to work on it. Even linus is using AI. KDE had decades to build the wayland protocol and make a functioning windows replacement but all they did was sit on their fat asses.
