What did he mean by this?
>we'll have the games that don't make money because we're in the business of making money but the games won't make money so it will be a new golden age of not making money
>>110170069hes basically saying>2mwbut, unironically
>>110170069The impossible gets done. The good builders get better results.
at first we had aaa slop, now we also have endless indie ai slop. truly a great future.
>>110170069a fun online fps where i can call someone a nigger and not get banned?>NOOOOO!!!! I DIDN'T MEAN IT LIKE THAT BECAUSE.... >BECAUSE I JUST DIDNT, OKAY!!!!!!
>>110170069Things I have asked for:>Art direction instead of endless iterations of "realism" where ever greater visual simulations of reality, aka I don't need to see a characters individual hair follicle. Fucking Windwaker still holds up because lol, art direction.>I do not need to sacrifice a decade from 1000 people's lives to recreate the endless empty buildings and pedestrian popuation of Fuckhead City. I'd rather have a single high rise of dynamic chatacters that tell a cohesive narrative I'll still fondly talk about 3 years later.>Beautiful places to explore that do not feel like a theme park gotta visit them allNone of these were being held back from AAA gaming by a lack of work hours. I loved the Witcher 3, but the lessons people took from that game were all the wrong ones, so I now I feel like garbage every time I play it.
>>110170069>gonna pump out sooooo much low effort slopguy is honorary indian
>>110170069I'll believe it when I see it. We'll still get their bug ridden slop, with added AI now.
>>110170069So where are those games? Where are those movies? Where is those songs? How many billions of dollars have they made?
>>110170069Nobody will be alive in 10 years when all those nukes start flying. We'll all be dead. And Mr. Sweeney here will be the enjoy the Golden Age of Cinder.
The games I want still won't exist, they'll just pump out games I don't want faster
>>110170069I think he's saying no one will pay for your game. Hence all the layoffs. Hard to tell though.
>>110170069When they will make games about hyperion cantos I will believe this.
I'm legit curious if AI can really do that spark of creativity that makes a great game great.I'm really thinking in particular of Return of the Obra Dinn. That game was so fucking good, and ENTIRELY the creation of a single person. I think (but maybe I'm wrong to think) I'd love to play a direct sequel with the same mechanics, etc. but maybe it would feel hollow and under-baked and actually ruin the original.I use AI a lot for coding and obviously it's good at that. But I've never had AI produce copy (i.e. text meant for reading) that wasn't +30% longer than it needed to be and clearly written by a machine. It just can't do 'elegance' in my experience: it would have to hit you over the head with everything, which works for copy paste slop games but woudn't for something where story/plot/milimalism/teasing/taste were key
Tard takeThere will be a fuckton of shit indie games rehashing some jimmick that no one is going to play, that segment will become worse, no one is going to play some half baked shit from some random Big IP will still till need a fuckton of money, half of that is still marketing to convince people to buy the latest bullshit. To do that all the normie niceties will still be needed like hollywood stars doing voice acting etc. It will be still a 1000 team people effort with AI slop on top and it will be gloriously bad or decent, never greatSo the AI heavy lifting would come for small teams that can now do "more"Too bad that:1) Writing a good story is still hard and AI sucks balls at it2) Cohesive Art is still hard and AI sucks balls at it3) Actually fun gameplay is not code, and guess what AI sucks balls at itSo the easy but involved part, coding and bugfixing got solved, the hard part is still hard
>>110170602>muh overanalysationYou just completely suck the joy out of anything game related. Like, what is even the point.
>>110170069its ludover
>>110170069Tim says games will be less costly to develop. And given this, there will be an increase in games developed. I suspect he's correct on these points. But there was another time when a flood of low quality games occured not that long ago. It lead to a foreign company focused on quality taking over the industry.
>>110170144how about fps game with full blown anarchy mode so cheaters have to out-cheat each other and say nigger all they want
>>110170069He confused golden color with piss
>>110170069Is it pronounced Ebin Games or Ebin James?
>>110170069the golden age for the epic store:
>>110170144you can have that because devs can make it. you can knock that out (except the fun part) in a week in ue5 using blueprints and some ai for the networking stuff.
>>110170069sounds pretty straightforward>have interesting x ideas for a game>but said game would be expensive to develop and too niche/risky to cover the development cost>costs and time to develop goes down>you now can make that game
>>110170144Just host your own server.
>>110171443it only gets more golden from here
>>110170602>woudn't for something where story/plot/milimalism/teasing/taste were keyyou write the story and the ai writes the code. tim isn't even saying full games should be prompted. get it to write code which does stuff. you don't need to spend 20 hours working on hurt boxes when the ai knows the docs and can get it 90% on its first go and then you tell it what is shit and it fixes it. video games are simple things with complex systems behind them. the complex system is taken care of, you do the story.
Why would they make these new games instead of existing games for cheaper so they can make more profit?
>>110170069So basically he's saying ywnbaw and you lost tranny
>>110170069He wants people to stop pointing out low effort slop games that have flooded his store. It's why he is so butthurt that steam requires slop be labeled as such.
I for one think the death of the gaming industry would be a net positive. If i can mod old games i can endure until something new happens. Or maybe its the end of gaming forever everything is just small iterations or friend/invite only places.
>>110171518everything you outsource to the clanker pushes your project towards the "mean implementation", because that's how these statistical text predictors work. all the edges get sanded off and you're left with a safe, boring, featureless plain with your story slapped on top. maybe you *think* you will notice and prompt your way out of that, but most people have a poor estimation of their own skill in areas they lack experience with, in this case game dev.
We must purge luddites from the society and send them back to living in caves. They're holding us back.
>>110171699holding you back from what? being a talentless lazy bum who thinks his idea #15778352742 is the bees knees and will be le best game ever?there are no shortcuts in life.if you are lazy and talentless, why do you think your ideas arent complete dogshit in the first place?i swear low iq browns are amazing, you suck at everything but when it comes to proompting a game, your slop will outslop all slop.one slop to rule them all.
they said this last year and 0 interesting "AI games" have came out. curious.
>>110171966This. Still waiting for le heckin solid game made with "AGI"
>>110170069Is this "golden age of gaming" in the room with us right now, Tim?
>>1101719922 more weeks
This is not gonna happen the ideas guy in his moms basement is never going to make his dream WoW clone just by prompting and ride into the sunset with giant money bags. It's just not feasible. What's more likely to happen is for giant companies to lay off most of their employees, cut a shitton of corners save a bunch of money and still charge you 80 bucks for the exact same shit except now they saved a couple million
>>110170069Can't he ask claude to fix his bloated mess of an engine?
>>110172041>Can't he ask claude to fix his bloated mess of an engine? He's a grok guy, I can tell.
oh great, this means the games are going to cost less for us consumers too right? right?
>>110172041>fix his engineFuhgeddaboudit. It's impossible for anyone or anything to fix it except by burying it in an unmarked grave.
>>110172094>cost lessYes instead of paying $70 to play a game you pay $25 a month to play(Extra fees for heavier usage of course.)
Why does an AI label, something that won't matter since clearly AI games are superior and will sell regardless, make Tim mad?
>>110170069>What did he mean by this?we can finally play global thermonuclear war.
>>110172094fortnite is free so idk what you are asking for.
>>110170076Two miku weeku?
