It depends on the CPU you plan the buy and whether you plan to overclock it.
NH-D15 is still a serviceable cooler if you already have one, sell it if it doesn't fit your new motherboard or if you plan to get RAM modules with tall heat spreaders (over 33~35mm).
You could also move the 2nd fan to the other fin stack if RAM clearance will be an issue (or use one fan).

>>110176001
If you're shopping for OLED monitors, the only one I'd seriously consider is the new 1440p ultrawide QD-OLED monitors.
This might go on sale during Black Friday & holidays.
https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/monitors/apd/alienware-34-280hz-qd-oled-gaming-monitor-aw3426dw/aw3426dw/-
Look for deeply discounted 32" 4K QD-OLED monitors (sub $600), but these have older panels with worse text clarity.

The ones to wait™ for are the 32" 4K QD-OLEDs with new panels (releasing next year).
Expect these to cost at least $1,200 ($1,600 for ASUS ROG).

ssd companies are very opportunistic
their highest capacity ssd carry a 50% $/gb premium over the 2nd highest capacity
i've been whaling on high capacity ssds for the last 6 years and 2tb only got cheap when 4tb ssds became plentiful across different companies' products and the same happened for 4tb only after 8tb became available across 2 or more vendors. for 6tb+ ssds to become affordable, we'd first have to have general availability across 2+ brands for 12/16tb (whichever is the next step up from 8tb) ssds first

You can get mounting adapters if need be easily. The only reason to not use it, since you've already got it, is if you're building in a case or form factor it won't fit in. Liquid cooling is a meme. >Intel had a bastard/hybrid version of AVX512 CPU instruction support on their 10th and 11th gen CPUs but ditched it entirely later on
>AVX512 directly helps during CPU only encoding /rendering
>Even their newest CPUs, the Ultra 7 270k Plus and Ultra 5 250k Plus don't have it
>Their newest CPUs lost in gaming
>Their newest CPUs lose in editing and encoding unless you're specifically using Intel Quicksync to piggy back on the iGPU (not worth the encoding quality loss and a dedicated GPU does this better anyway, even AMD GPU)
>Less overall performance per watt than even AMD's 7800X3D, let alone the 9800X3D at gaming
>Less overall performance per watt than AMD 9700X for productivity
>All AMD ryzen 7xxx CPUs ran a double 256-bit version of AVX512 capabilities
>All AMD Ryzen 9xxx ditched the double layer and went with a single layer, full width, full fat 512-bit version

What the fuck is Intel doing? I'm doing my research before building my new PC and looking at the state of things has me thinking I'm in opposite world. I have an Intel 9900k and I figured by now even bottom of the barrel Intel CPUs would offer SOME kind of advantage. I'm actually about to build and AMD CPU/GPU system due to performance and pricing. Never thought I'd see the day.
>>
>>110178423
But still more stable. Better memory controller, better chipset. No USB issues, better thunderbolt support. Lower DPC latency. 13th/14th gen were right enough terrible, I'll give you that. Nova Lake is bringing back AVX512 if you really care about that.
>>
>>110178423
The only advantage Intel has is idle power draw which doesn't matter for most people as the moment they load up a game or Youtube they are drawing more than 100 watts.
>>
>>110178423
Novalake that's launching in q1 2027 will be their return to form
It will have avx10 which is essentially a cleaned up version of avx512 as well as APX which will be a first for x86 CPUs
>>
>>110178471
>Lower DPC latency
all the dpc latency I get comes from the Nvidia driver. Isn't intel with AMD gpu a cursed combination?

yeah I'll be honest, I've not read enough on AM5 to see potential problems other than not using AMD on ASrock boards, but I'm just disappointed.
>>110178480
idle is usually a bad metric yeah, unless it's like a 1 use server or NAS with nothing going on. I feel like technology is going backwards

Apparently Intel is making "Raptor Lake Next" which is usable on old DDR4 capable LGA1700 motherboards. Maybe I'll consider that and just keep using my existing 4x16GB kit. Saves me around $1000.
>>110178498
problem is other uses too. Will it be a return to form for Intel in gaming or will they continue to lose by 30% in every title? I've been on Intel for a really long time and was hoping to just hop into the newest, latest, and greatest. I guess I can wait for Novalake to see what it brings. The Raptor Lake refresh isn't due until q1 of 2027 anyway so I'm playing the waiting game regardless. At the end of the day, my 9900k fully supports AVX2 and handbrake utilizes all the tricks in the book to fully leverage AVX2 because of how wide spread it is. I guess I'm just let down by how little it seems CPUs have advanced. We're supposed to gain capabilities, not lose them
>>
>>110178423
Intel don't care about providing AVX-512 to consumer-grade CPUs, those are for Xeon processors.
Their chip designs are prioritized for the highest bidders (servers & high volume laptop OEMs).
The X3D was easy to implement because of using MCM chiplets and also having a significant process node advantage (more die area to place cache in more power efficient chips).
>>
>>110178527
Novalake will also have their version of x3d vcache which should let novalake stay competitive against the 10800x3d
The only thing I'd be worried about is the platform cost of z990
>>
>>110178500
They mean lower dpc latency thats comes inherently from the motherboard platform. Intel ethernet and Intel bluetooth/wifi just works while Realtek (AMD) tends to be shitty.
>>
>>110178527
>Will it be a return to form for Intel in gaming or will they continue to lose by 30% in every title?
lmao, do you really think that's true?
don't you remember how hard zen 2 CPUs like the 3700X were shilled against the 9900K by techtubers? a 3700X is unusable these days, while the 9900K is still viable, especially with some overclocking
>>
>>110178423
>encoding quality
Literal audiophool-tier shit. You have to pixelhunt like a faggot to find appreciable differences between cpu and gpu rendering these days.
AVX512 is a meme and AMD is a piece of shit resting on its laurels the way Intel was when they were doing 9 generations of 2c4t/4c4t/4c8t. Fanboys give AMD leeway for all sorts of issues.
Are your comparisons and benchmarks taking into account cost? RAM support?
>>
>>110178599
3700X is still perfectly usable. It's the Ryzen cpus before chiplets that aged like milk. Ryzen 1600AF for example.
>>
>>110178628
a 3700X gets like 30 FPS in CPU-heavy games like BG3
it's fine if you're still on a period-appropriate GPU, i guess
but you could keep the 9900K (or 8700K, or 10900K, etc) for FAR longer
>>
>>110178652
3700x is far more capable than that

3700X isn't awful. My friend still runs one. It was shilled as much as it was because of price. Brand new it was like $330 to Intel's $550+ for the 9900k. Not to mention part of the allure was the ability to continue running your pre-existing AM4 board at the time.
>>110178624
If you're blind sure. It's no a 1:1 comparison I'm so concerned about, it's file size. A raw rip of the average 1080p Blu-ray movie is say 15GB. Encoding with CPU only using x264 and AAC audio gives a final file size of around 4GB to 6GB while retaining 99% of the same visual fidelity as the original. Using Intel quicksync or Nvidia NVEC make the encode go way faster but unless you up the bit rate to easily 3x the x264 encode, it looks fuzzy and like pure garbage. But once you up the bitrate that much, the final file size is nearly double that of x264. Same goes when using x265 for 4K rip. If you're someone who thinks Netflix 4K visual clarity is good, then this conversation is lost on you. I'm far from a placebo chaser, but I won't settle for shit just because it's more convenient.

As for cost/support, that's irrelevant to me. I didn't buy my 9900k because it was on sale. I bought it and the best Z390 board I could find because it was the best on the market, the literal king of the consumer CPUs without going into HEDT. It's why I'm still able to run it 24/7 encoding near 9 years later. I'm neither AMD nor Intel fanboying. I'm an outside viewer who has been out of the PC building space for a long while because the last PC I built had such good parts and quality, I didn't need anything else. Only now am I starting to feel my 9900k getting long in the tooth. I come to the market and see Intel's offerings wanting, simple as.

If you haven't noticed, the desktop market's been shrinking.
AMD's chiplet design happened to make it easier to port over server features like AVX-512 support & packaging a 3DVache stacked CCD.
Intel's decided to go with disaggregated tile architecture for their client CPUs, because they just have to swap the graphics & compute tiles depending on the product SKU.
Intel's chip design team has been hamstrung by the physical design bottlenecks caused by Intel Foundry's advanced node production issues.
>>
>>110178727
Both untrue and retarded. Why would you even be using H264 in 2010+16 when there's HEVC and AV1 anyway? GPU encoding also isn't as bad as it was in 2010, which your thoughts seem to be stuck in.
>>
wow the green vs red war wasnt getting enough (you)s so he switched to blue vs red

>>
>>110178821
compatibility. h264 is the most widely compatible for older devices and makes it so I also don't have to re-encode my entire movie collection which is around 9TB of stuff (encoded). I use h264 for 1080p and down. H265 for 4K, but still only using H265, no NVEC. I've done easily 20 different encodes using GPU acceleration and tried to keep them even in the realm of same file size as a CPU only encode while being similar quality and it just doesn't happen. I have my shit set up in a way of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I'm just trying to get a new CPU to do what I already do, but faster.
>>
something really weird happened, I found out stress testing that the only core I have on my 5800x3d that is unstable is core #2, so I went on the bios and put all cores at -30 and #2 at -39 and the CPU idle temperature dropped a lot, it's actually kinda crazy, it would spike to 50s and 60s all the time browsing, that was the only change I've made, crazy, idk if it makes sense

should have gotten something better desu, but I guess you're strapped for cash
>>
>>110183181
You couldve bought a 4090 for 1800$
and am5 system with 9800x3d and 64gb ddr5 ram

what were you thinking?
>>
>>110183104
you're uninformed and ignorant
>>
>>110183216
no I'm not, the only exception is if it's made out of leather, where you can actually wash the shit off. But leather makes your ass sweat too after prolonged sitting
>>
why do they make chairs impossible to wash anyway
if you could remove the padding you could wash it, but they nail it down or glue it

its honestly bizarre hygiene behavior from an industry
>>
>>110183223
whatever
>>
>>110183223
>it's made out of leather
yeah no thanks. I'd rather not kill animals because I'm hindu.
>>
>>110183223
let's be clear. i'm not suggesting you should buy someone else's used fart limiter.

when you look for that "used" chair, it should be cleaned and only "gently" used. like it was a spare in the conference room or something.

use some discernment.
>>
>>110183181
wasn't the 5060ti already out by then?

I heard this gets mogged by AOC
>>
>>110178411
Ok I'll switch. What distro should I use?
>>
>>110183516
No? AOC is HDMI 2.0. This is HDMI 2.1.
>>
>>110183555
who the fuck uses HDMI boomertech?
>>
>>110183516
AOC has non existent support. Dell/Alienware is a major support branch.
>>
>>110183561
why the fuck would I need support for a monitor?
it fucking displays images!!!
>>
>>110183560
DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 dont have enough bandwidth for 1440p 240hz

>>110183566
If the GPU doesn't recognize the EDID then you get a buggy experience.

only right solution: distance

put your pc in a closet or other room.
get some long dp/hdmi and usb extensions.
>>
>>110183566
Dell monitors come with professional calibrated color profiles for SDR & HDR. Other brands you have to guesswork yourself.
>>
>>110183520
I swapped recently and went with Fedora. Honestly with a bit of searching you can go with whatever. I'm sure Arch installation and setup is blown out of proportion.
>>
>>110183566
modern monitors come with their own built-in motherboard/cpu running a lightweight OS. they are prone to failure from bad QC and firmware bugs

Is there an office mouse shaped like the MX Anywhere 3S but not marked up by a Logitech tax?

uhhhhh what abouttta ASUS ROG XG27AQDMGR 27 Inch 1440p 240Hz Glossy OLED HDR Gaming Monitor
>>
>>110183579
Dp1.4 has enough bandwidth for 1440p 240hz even with VRR. It only becomes an issue if you want VRR and HDR at the same time

Is it worth the effort for me to sell my 9070 for a 4070 ti super? No extra cash from me, just a sell and a buy; they're the same price on the second hand market in my cuntry. Considering I got the 9070 for 600++ and I can now sell it for 900++.

>but it seems anon's attempts were thwarted by anon's retardation
it's kinda like gravity. what goes up has to come down eventually.
>>
>>110183827
you need DSC which is gross in reality fuck your synthetic practice
hdmi 2.1 and dp 2.1 dont need DSC
>>
>>110183886
You don't need dsc. I had a 360hz monitor that allowed you to turn dsc off capping it to 240hz and it worked just fine
>>
>>110183865
that seems alright if you require nvidia for some reason
>>
>>110183865
Idunno, nvidia might exit the consumer space market down the line, so driver support could get pulled
>>
>>110183930
I have convinced myself that I need nvidia for muh productivity but at the same time i want less of a reason to stare at my pc all day. I am stumped. I think I will just list it up online a little over the market price for a month and see if anyone bites. Then I will get the ti super.
>>110183956
I don't update my video drivers much. Whatever gets installed automatically by windows i usually stick with.
>>
>>110183956
There's a better chance of them splitting off GeForce into its own entity (very unlikely) than pulling out of the consumer market

Any of you guys have a snapdragon x2e laptop? How is it? Cross shopping a few laptops with igpus and you can find them with a lot of memory for cheap.

the dsc cope is over

>>110183865
4070 ti can't run newer displays and not even with all features if you run with dsc on
sounds retarded

qdoled tv for almost as cheap and so on

all tvs are also utrawides
isolate your tv network keep it offline if you are a schizo
there, I destroyed both your arguments for the 1000th time
next question
one can replicate the other, the other one can't
if you are the VA ultrawide fag just shut your pc off at his point

240hz 1440p doesn't even max out bandwidth of dp1.4. stop being retarded and spread bullshit

the point was reducing the refresh

read the context. Anon claimed dp 1.4 can't do 1440p 240hz without dsc but it can.

sure anything can run anything if you compromise enough
everything seemed stupid anyway
