AI made something work on a program I was making but in a really, really, bizarre and incomprehensible way. When I actually broke down each step with comment lines, it made absolutely no sense the way it had done it.

It was to do with unescaping and re-escaping lines. Instead of title:contains:cats\: they're cool&&description:omits:dogs easily in one step getting each entry 'title:contains:cats\: they're cool','description:omits:dogs' it was splitting it up into random chunks in a seemingly nonsensical way. Like it would be split into 'title:con','tains:cats','','theyre cool'.

The round trip for any string sent in absolutely worked. Somehow. But the logic wasn't right for a program any human would ever work on.

They also like to send functions into functions which I hate...

Probably a shit place to ask, sorry if I'm wasting time not looking elsewhere but thought I'd ask for your opinions here first, how do you actually get into the github stuff like submitting your code to open source projects? Not really the mechanics of it technically, just.. What projects do you go with? Obviously I'm not gonna start with anything important or popular, but then I don't really know what to look for. I want projects where a beginner can feasibly not waste someone's time by submitting their code. I think github has a "feature request" which I guess are "objectives" but then again, I don't even know which projects to add features to. I'm not necessarily bad at programming, I've just never really entered the world of working on programming stuff with others so I really don't know.
>>
>>110180112
some big projects will have tags like "good starter issue" that are supposedly easy to get into, there's no easy answer though especially as working on an existing project means you have to learn how the codebase and procedures work

okay we have words (and numbers) separated by whitespace. Cool.

But first lets do some tokenization
>>
>>110180112
>Obviously I'm not gonna start with anything important or popular
You absolutely can do this. Your first changes are going to be SMALL, maybe even single line of code changes.
You're probably not going to rock up to some random project and just dump a massive feature change. And if you were, at least state your intention of what you're doing (a lot of projects have an IRC channel or similar), and you'll often get a lot of pointers.

If this works then I JUST need a stack and execute shit. Simple as that.

Making good (based) progress rn.
Not using jump tables everywhere I could, but if else is fine too.
Now just gotta put tokens on the stack and execute.
I think I will not worry about not error'ing when there is no space after a number. Fuck errors. I don't do errors (tho I am quite impressed with the error handling of my assembler. Holy shit that worked great and almost always reported the correct line number +-1)
>>
>>110182764
This is what the average wagie looks like.
>>
So I wrapped my perf counter around the pixel renderer subroutine alone and found it generates only 5 instruction cache misses per line rendered.
At 144 lines per frame, that would amount to about 720 cache misses, but the increase from my previous scalar renderer was closer to 3000.
I'll wrap my previous renderer at a later point to check it, but it seems to strongly suggest that they're coming from somewhere else, perhaps somewhere the emulator is spending more time because of time saved (such as waiting for the next frame render to start).
>>
>>110185112
So wrapping the old renderer turns out to be around 3500 cycles per line vs 2500 for the SIMD one, and similar instruction and data cache miss values.
Progress.

ive watched this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRO1iaEv-LE

read this: >>110186236

and my idea is to have a sort of progressive encrypting/decrypting executable

you encrypt the executable but with a twist:
it starts all encrypted save for an entrypoint
and as it executes, you decrypt a chunk, the one youre about to execute
and encrypt the chunk you already executed (to reset its state, and to makes things harder to decompile)

ive thought about this years ago, but didnt have a usecase for it
i do see one now. it would make ai-assisted decompilation way more expensive

i hope- expensive enough to make vidyaslop decompilation impractical for non-savvy people
and i hope savvy people have more efficient ways of making money

whats your thoughts?
me, im vaguely thinking in the direction of mprot, making pages both read write, and execute
and basically encode the program as a whole bunch of strings
probably each string containing the keys for the previous and next blocks, and inlined routines to decode said blocks as they get executed
probably otp-like, im thinking

the tradeoffs: should accomplish what it says on the tin. force to restart the program thousands of times to get an accurate image of the code. which would make putting together an accurate image of the executable a fucking nightmare. i think this should be enough to make ai-assisted RE impractical for the parasite vibeslopper kind

at the cost of: exploding the size of the executable, which yeah. it sucks. but also its ok bc the lion share of the mem footprint will be assets anyways, so its gonna be diluted down to <10% more mem footprint, i suspect
and at the cost of a performance hit because the decoding will *have* to happen, which means a whole lot of ops, and icache/dcache thingamajigs.
possible to mitigate by selecting how the chunks are subdivided. but then it introduces the problem of function calls not lining up with with chunks
>>
>>110186750
programs don't execute in "chunks" you fucking idiot

>>
>>110186991
they actually kinda do, in a couple ways
but here im talking about an abstract unit of code

>>110187061
yeah, but computationally cheaper, hopefully, and opensource?
maybe even better because denuvos & co are about DRM, not RE-hardening proper
and the goal would be to thwart talentless hack sloperator parasites who want to ride off the advertisement efforts of some poor indie dev whos gonna net in 10k sales max anyways

thats the usecase
not to be absolutely bulletproof bc i expect the compromises would make it unsuitable for the abovementioned usecase, then
but to force RE of a product to be too expensive for the generic tier sloperator retard to oneshot copy something most often quite shit in its own right too, but at least coded with passion and maybe even skill

it wont protect graphical style, assets, but this could potentially protect handcrafted code

Together they describe a list of one or more pointers to null-terminated strings that represent the argument list available to the executed program. The first argument, by convention, should point to the filename associated with the file being executed.

Can you think of any legitimate reason not to pass the same char pointer as file and arg0?

IIRC the last time someone who actually knew ada explained there's a lot, including language design stuff where they designed the syntax to avoid bugs, and ecosystem related stuff that might be considered external
but that all that also makes it a pain in the ass

there's also an even more restrictive substandard of ada called SPARK similar to MISRA C (which also offers a lot more than rust in terms of safety) except more robust and is meant to be provably correct mathematically as opposed to using static analysis
which a language like rust (or any with actual features) will never be able to achieve because you'd have to remove 99% of it

this, what helps me right now is to focus on small bits at first, just look at code and ask ciaude to explain 1 thing from it, then reproduce that seperately in a test program
also change small things so you see how things are inherited, especially in OOP you will develop a skill there quickly
try and make the output something you prefer, then figure out where it should be called
also dont use the scripts you made, delete them, then recreate once you need them

nietzsche could have been an obnoxious troon furry pedo and it would have made no difference to what he wrote, or how what he wrote would effect the reader
because the latter is the useful part of reading nietzche
you dont take his writing as gospel, you confront yourself with it, use it to refine your own philosophy

fedoraniggers need not apply. they read beyond good and evil bc it sounds edgy and dark then go around repeating excerpts form the book without understanding any of it

thats part of the transformative process
his long ass phrases and the fact that theres related, completing concepts 100 pages apart trains your intellect in cutting to the essence, and in your attention span so to speak

>i saw a lecture about him

youre not getting any of nietzche this way.

case in point
>muh superhuman
a superhuman is a man controlling his animal self, and not the other way around

>muh gods morality
do you want to talk about how aztecs sacrificed hunreds of people in order to prevent the apocalypse?
it was the epitome of morality for them bc they thought theyre guaranteeing the sun will rise tomorrow.
"god's morality" is not something that you can say in the context of philosophy and be taken seriously

Nietzsche would love c and claim all its quirks and annoyances are a knife cutting away at your animal side.

a lot of programming books are just a showcase of language features. many assume you will already know how to program and apply the information from a simple example

the language feature may not even be a good idea, it may very well be something the language designer thought would be good but did not actually spend the time and experience to find out

What terry was meaning here is very simple to me, this is my opinion, it seems to me like terry davis clearly was making commentary about marketing, and marketing requires you to disconnect from whatever your personal fucking tastes are, you can throw your personal tastes into the goddamned woodchipper, your personal tastes do not matter in marketing. What matters in marketing is how you can manipulate the consumer into buying whatever the fuck we are selling, ethicality be damned. Ethics don't matter, personal belief don't matter, religion don't matter in ruthless marketing. In ruthless marketing, we use whatever fucking techniques are the least likely to get us arrested to achieve our end game, which is you, the consumer, being driven to consume our fucking products until the day you die, and if you try and get in the way, we will fucking annihilate you.

What's the most efficient way to remember data structures and algorithms and OOP if you most likely ADHD (can't stop twitching when trying to study and pulling my shirt or tapping my foot)? I need a proper guide that tells me what's the correct way to program since I don't know if I'm programming according to industry standards. I usually just have my whole code on one page and don't use objects and constructors which is heavily frowned upon. The problem is idk when to use objects and constructors and setters and getters.

>>110203720
A proper guide doesn't exist because programming is an open ended form of expression like language, its more akin to writing a book than it is to something like building a house. My genuine advice is to do what worked for me and that is to spend time reading code that other people wrote and build a style that takes the parts that you like, and never follow rigid advice like "always use constructors" or something silly like that.
