What's the point in making any software closed source when it can just be instantly re-written in Rust with AI?
>>
Video game devs are asking this exact question now, and how you actually make a living at it going forward.

Or if the slop grenades she keep falling until you're not buying the game, you're buying access to the hardware infrastructure that you MUST connect to in order to play the game.

Maybe STADIA wasn't about getting poors access to higher end gaming components at the cost of latency. Maybe it was someone who saw the writing on the wall about closed source software becoming 3% of the market share it is now.
>>
finally, software has become free.
>>
>>110187918
Okay show me Mac OS source code.
>>
>>110187971
But as in free beer, it still does not respect the user.
>>
>>110187918
>they added a minimap, something that intellij still doesn't fucking have natively

>>110187918
Ludditsisters?!!
>>
>>110187985
>as in free beer
>does not respect the user
if you can make your own FOSS clone of anything at the press of a button, but have to use a paid AI model, it's actually the complete opposite.
>>
>>110187985
Meds. Most of them are MIT. It's free as in F R E E D O M (actual freedom), not free as in "I'm wearing a cock cage and I demand everybody do too" (as in communism or GPL).
>>
I guess software developers will have to start being creative so that the plagiarism machines can't just copy them.
>>
>>110187918
>rust
Why do ai retards always shoehorn tranny shit into everything?
>>
Has any moderately complex closed source program been reversed engineers where the company who produced it had a no AI policy?

Can AI only reverse engineer what's in its training data, legally or illegally?
>>
>>110187958
>Video game devs are asking this exact question now, and how you actually make a living at it going forward.
Video games are the safest from AI as there is a lot more to a game then the code and the functionality. The art, music, and "fun" are more important. The people who should be worried are all the sass webapps that never should have existed in the first place.
>>
>>110188020
and fuck do you do with slopped crabshit shovelware be it in any fucking license?
>>
>>110188029
Distaste for devs aside, if 60% of our R&D Atime and costs are going into obfustication at execution time, the real answer here is to move execution off thenenduser's machine. Obviously, if a video feed of the screen is enough to replicate the functionality, you're kind of boned, but for the rest, well...

I guess it's good none of us will be able to afford a home pc anymore, right?
>>
"instantly rewritten"

It's accelerated not something any ai can 1 shot
>>
>>110188069
People are already yanking demos off of steam peior to a game release for smaller indie titles. Shit like Epden Ring may have a moat due to sheer volume of assets, but weirder indie shit in 2D is done. There is nothing outside AAA going forward, and they already love live service games.

Maybe we can do shareware so people can supplement their main income stream at a grocery store.
>>
>>110188086
Obfuscation won't help if your company uses AI.
>>
>>110188067
Do you mean have people reverse engineered complex software without the use of LLMs? Of course but it took years. Harnesses can use tools like Ghidra to decompile software, usually the built in safety nets will stop Claude etc. from decompiling certain software unless you tard wrangle it. Or just give it to a Chinese model.
>>
>>110188067
I don't believe any of it. "clean room" my ass. people are uploading their propretary code via claude code which is exfiltrating entire codebases and then it's getting used as training data and then it's creating a mash-up of the source code intent with a different style. it's literally plagarism 101 just change it up a bit so it doesn't look like you copied.
>>
>>110188086
>if a video feed of the screen is enough to replicate the functionality
It is. AI can describe a video and implement that based on observation. That's hose clean-room reverse engineering works. You just observe it and reproduce what you've observed into code. You don't even need to look at the binaries. Even a short video is more than enough to get the core functionality of any software.
>>
>>110188106
The people yanking demos probably don't have anything to worry about. They might even do it to help market the game as nextfest is flooded with AI slop. Nobody is going to buy an inferior knockoff of a good game. Asset flips and bad knockoffs existed before AI and they rarely made any impact.
>>
>>110188123
No I mean are LLMs only able to reverse engineer complex programs from companies who have used LLMs?
That would imply the LLMs are trained on the data from those companies even when that's not supposed to happen and when asked to reverse engineer those programs the LLM already has a lossy copy of that code on it's weights.

not supposed to happen? That's the entire business model. Input tokens are the only source of training data left.

Yes, but many private companies buy their services on the promise that it doesn't happen, I can only assume the AI psychosis most managers seems to have nowadays is why they don't see how unlikely the AI companies are to keep their promises.
>>
>>110188016
building anything non trivial in luddite ways requires huge investments and strong communities with top notch autists devoting their free time to the cause, paying a few bucks to devil to do the work you want is literally freedom

career choices are rendered outdated all the time, there is no need for bread and water coders anymore, the ones who can orchestrate ai to make good shit will get their obese paychecks also in the future

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
>>
>>110188249
Do you mean LLMs can do it quickly and moderately accurately into C/C++/Rust or do you mean I can technically do it with hexdump or whatever?

orchestrating an ai is much easier than software engineering
so I don't know why you think you're going to get paid for it when they can have the ai do it

These things are fucking pointless, space-wasting ricer shit.

You are definitely not management material with they attitude
>>
>>110188124
nigga please, the algorithms of most programs are openly available. You speak like every major software is some cutting edge research while in reality nothing is farther from the truth. The architecture is not that hard to imagine, it does not be even identical, just a sane one.
>>
>>110188345
i mean adobe shit probably have some serious algorithms and probably even some researched stuff

They already can do pretty amazing job at this and are getting better every day. Obfuscation is for humans. Chinks do not care about your patended intellectual property bits, they are just bits.

>>110188274
it is not, you really can not orchestrate an ai properly if you are not an expert in software

>dude just use 2.5mm scroll bar (that's not even on the right edge of the screen because they just had to put a fucking sidebar there)
Humiliation ritual. VSCode got it right, IntelliJ is borderline unusable without the minimap extension. There's plenty of space for code. Windows 11 fucked up scrollbar designs but some programs where they're actually important like VSCode or FL Studio actually make them bigger because they understand it's necessary for good user experience.
>>
>>110188424
lol that's so far from the truth
how then are all these no-coders cloning video games and shit with just a few prompts?
you are not special, you are already replaced by an LLM but you don't want to accept it yet
>>
>>110187958
Games include lots of copyrighted intellectual property. You could make a clone of a game's gameplay but you can't legally clone its art, models, textures, music, story, etc. which means you can't really clone a game.
>>
>>110188274
and I do not think I am getting paid for it, I have other sources of revenue like land ownership that work wonders in every economy. The suckers who wasted their obese paychecks are dun cooked up.

rent seeking is not a legitimate source of revenue
your land and natural resources will be assimilated and used for datacenters so that every single person in the world will finally have the available compute to individually clone photoshop for themselves in a clean room environment from scratch with one prompt
>>
>>110188380
And you are correct, but a photoshop clone without a few of their cutting edge tools iwould be still a pretty damn good and does the work just fine for 99.99 percent of people.
>>
>>110188515
This slop works fine for light use.

>>110188484
You ever heard about the concept of working the land? I do mostly forestry, it is hard but honest work, pays well if you own enough land. Not seeking rent from anybody, landlords are suckers.

>Video game devs are asking this exact question now
The videogame devs who ask that question are making flappy bird tier games. Making a 4 hour long videogame with a basic bitch gameplay loop and with stock assets for graphics and sound, wont gonna cut it in 2026 anyways in terms of profits. Now you are also gonna get AI'd. I guess indie devs need to step it up. And thats a good thing imo.
>>
>>110188260
I've never seen AI make anything good, especially on the frontend UI side. Most of my job involves writing code by hand to fix the janky frontend code that everyone else on the team shits out with AI. I will only use AI for writing simple functions and small scale refactoring because that's the only thing it can do that's actually useful.
>>
>>110188528
Gotta test that, probably does everything I need already since I do very basic stuff and dont even need photoshop tier editor...
>>
>>110188614
Game makers just gotta be a lot more creative. Shitting out yet another fps or rpg will not cut it in the future. Tetris was innovative, flappy bird was great, pong was the shit. Gaming is so much more than real life simulator escapism.
>>
>>110188617
Yup. AI cannot into actual aesthetics and usability. It is a tool, of course, but if no human is involved it produces shit.
>>
>>110187918
You need to spend hundreds of dollars on it and thats right now while the companies hosting these agents are all getting subsidised into orbit.
Local models can't even kinda sorta do this, freetard registrations on LLMs can't do this. It has to be Claude which is currently expensive and will be getting moreso. (And also worse)
>>
>>110188649
>Gaming is so much more than real life simulator escapism
Is that why all the games made by autistic lunatics with outward thinking ideas are all 6 figure fanbases at best and 99% of the market only cares about a shitty escapism simulator set in Florida?

The games that have been selling well recently have been friendslop games, and I expect this trend to continue for the foreseeable future. Friends will force other friends to get the "correct" game in fear getting ostracized. Network coding has become a lot easier now too, and you don't even need your own servers anymore thanks to Steam.
>>
>>110188767
>6 figure fanbases
Is that supposed to be a bad thing? Selling 100k copies of a $20 game is $2 million.
>>
>>110188388
"Hey Claude, just use my PC and take screenshots of this cloud app and remake it locally. No mistakes"
>>
>>110187918
Good news
certain hardcoded closed sources will never be free
>>
>>110188556
Well that's pretty based and redpilled then. Good on you and I'm sorry that the AI jews will steal your land with the government's help and put a big datacenter on it or just turn it into a solar power farm.
>>
>>110188106
In hindsight, I thought about someone ganking Welcome to Elderfield, and I realize I'm wrong. It just isn't going to work when 80% of the reason anyone buys it is to experience the mental illness in the art, music, and writing.
