Proton's CEO sends an AI manifesto to the engineering department, ASKING the employees (in an outrageous language) for why didn't the LLM usage increase their productivity levels, despite using it at all times.

What does /g/ think of his manifesto? Is he right? Or is he on the AI psychosis pills and should be fired?

theres a swindle somewhere

>Initially, using AI was banned inside Proton, but the company has since approved AI for all sorts of use cases internally, including processing financial data, drafting customer-facing responses on Reddit and LinkedIn, and writing code “except when that source code contains information that would give immediate advantage to a competitor” or is related to “innovation or R&D [research and development],” according to an internal Proton document seen by 404 Media. Ninety percent of code at Proton in October was written by AI, the company’s CTO Bart Butler said in a meeting, according to audio 404 Media obtained. Much of that code is written with Anthropic’s Claude, multiple employees told 404 Media. And Yen tells employees in Slack chats to use Claude, too.

He's legit retarded and his company will implode soon. If you mandate AI usage, you're not going to get more code written, you're just going to get more AI usage. He's antagonizing the engineers by being a total child

that would make sense too.
its a retarded way to lead a company though
if you break up a competent engineering team its hard to rebuild it
and messing with people's established workflows also comes at a cost to productivity

the former can cripple his money-maker in the long run, the latter can be an unexpected loss, in spite of using ibjectively methods (not saying that his are, thats a different discussion)

>Why has productivity not increased dramatically if everyone is using LLMs all the time already?

CEO is asking the wrong question. It should be: why are their metrics not showing productivity improvements?

A lot of these dumbfucks are looking at sprint velocity and expecting that they will see more story points completed per sprint because productivity is up. They do not understand that these numbers are fake and that there are powerful social and organizational forces that keep them constant.

You can have an incredible engineer who carries the team by himself, and some crappy jeet who can't do anything on the same team, and they will complete the same number of story points every sprint. There's no polite way to say "I'm comfortable taking on 50 points this sprint, but Rajesh should only do 2 points because I'm good and he sucks." Instead, the scrum master will make sure everyone gets 10 points. Rajesh will get his stories closed even if they aren't finished, and better engineers will end up doing a lot of work that isn't tracked. Management thinks the two engineers are the same because the numbers are the same.

Similar with LLMs, if something that used to take a week now takes a day, it will be estimated as 1 point instead of 5. Tasks that the LLM can knock out in 15 minutes don't even get stories created for them. Engineers might be completing a lot more work than they were before, but everyone still completes the same number of points so management thinks productivity is the same.

because there is no revolution

it sure fucking still is because I'm not a retard, code velocity has never been the issue with software engineering.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA No.
reminder that most managers are fucking worthless and should be fired, be very careful if you're talking this path pal, CTO is a worthless job in the first place, I'm sure claud can already replace this non-technical retard

"Your job has fundamentally changed. It is no longer to write code, and LLMs are not here to help you write better code faster.

>Your job is to help the LLM write better code faster."
How does one make LLMs work faster? I thought the speed was tied to GPU bandwidth or some shit. Does this dude even understand what LLMs are? Because putting "and think faster" at the end of your prompt does absolutely nothing to how fast it'll process that.

That manifesto comes from Proton's CTO, Bart Butler. Not from its CEO Andy Yen. Andy is not what you'd call a "people's person" and has taken a much more threatening tone with his employees basically calling anyone who isn't AI-maxxing a moron with no future at the company.

Butler has had to drag out Yen to have them both aplogize to the media about Yen's behavior and inform that Yen will have to make his communication skills a point of attention for improvement.

Yen is basically the Steve Jobs archetype: visionary, but a complete and utterly impossible dickhole to work with.

when is Tuta going to fix this?
>>
>>110205350
AI already tested and pushed a fix, even though it actually doesn't work. Now we are building new features, we are tripling out codebase this month alone. So productive
>>
>>110205278
pretty much the same thing, except for a few products like password manager and VPN which Tuta doesn't have yet.
>>
>>110205278
Tuta is a private mailbox provider. Proton is an office suite with AI.

The version with the fix is literally in the picture.
