Piece of shit legit just blew up mid use. This stuff never happens to older SATA drives.

>buying corsair
lol

Ever heard of backups dipshit? Yeah, didn't think so.

Your fault

SATA refers to the connection type. SSD refers to the drive format. There were and are SATA SSDs. In fact I'm using one now.

I also have this newer one from Kingston, this one failed in storage. Amazing technology.

I mean these. These bricks sat in a rusty garage for a decade and a half and are still chugging along like they're brand new.
>>
>>110217369
one is none
>>
>>110217397
You are not supposed to keep SSDs powered off for long periods
>>
>>110217371
I have a Corsair ssd that's 14 years old and it still works fine. OPs issues are purely skill related. He doesn't know what SSD or SATA even mean it's obvious that his breaking of two SSDs is entirely his own fault
>>
>>110217394
First one idgaf about I just had porn on it it's at most somewhat annoying.

Second one was actually important, I couldn't back it up straight away since I didn't have any drive big enough for it so I stored it for a year.

Now I bought one for backup and right as I wanted to clone it I find out it's fucking dead! From just sitting around!

These M2 pieces of shit fail:
-if you use them
-if you don't use them

:D

>>110217369
You were in Kindergarten when HDDs were a thing.
>>
>>110217410
Those are HDDs or Hard disk drives and guess what? They also use SATA.
Genuinely how did you even find your way onto this board if you don't know something that basic? I'm not even just trying to be a dick. I am genuinely confused.
>>
>>110217428
Well the one in the OP was never powered off for long, shit just died mid usage lmao.
>>
>>110217440
I just use them I don't care what they're called.
>>
>>110217445
Then if you know so little you probably shouldn't be giving out advice on whether or not to use them.
>>
>>110217371
Theyre blackrock owned since '19

Yeah it's a dead brand to me

I'm going on Monday to check if it's possible to recover data from the 1TB Kingston one and after I'm never using one again.
>>
>>110217369
I've had multiple HDDs die but no SSDs so far. The only flash memory I've had die was a 32MB SD card and a 128GB flash drive. Everything dies eventually. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.
>>
My samsung drives would never lol
>>
>>110217410
>seagate
how do we tell him
>>
>>110217369
>HDD dies
OMG NEVER USE A HDD FOR DATA
>flash card drives
OMG NEVER USE A FLASH DRIVE TO FOR DATA
>floppy card corrupts
OMG NEVER USE A FLOPPY DRIVE FOR DATA
What the fuck should I use then, nigga?
>>
>>110217770
>HDD dies
Never happens!
And if it does it's because it was extremely overused or suffered physical damage from being thrown around.
And even if it did the data on it is completely safe in almost all real world cases.
But it mostly just never happens.

Future archeologists are gonna be decoding the magnetic patterns on these bad boys to find out about our age.

WAS NOT MAKING BACKUPS PART OF YOUR PLAN?
>>
>>110217770
HDDs die one sector at a time and give you lots of warning of impending doom so you can backup
>>
>>110217843
Just not used to it. Back when I grew up tech was not fake and gay like it is today. You wrote your files on a HDD they were there in your hand son!
>>
>>110217817
>Never happens!
Newfags who never used HDDs need not apply.
>>
>>110217844
I see you have never experienced a head crash.
These fucking people, never owned fucking hard drives.
>>
>>110217369
How old was it?
>>
>>110217904
>NOOOOOOOO IT DOESN'T BOOT ANYMORE!!!!
Just have it fixed you big sissy.
>>
>>110217915
Get your SSD fixed.
>>
>>110217914
Don't know actually. Bought the laptop like 10 months ago 2nd hand and hardly used it till this week, though I did power it on.
>>
>>110217922
You'll have to ask God in heaven for your data if it was lost to an SSD failure.
>>
>>110217941
The data is still there on the NAND if it wasn't the NAND that died. Just get it off.
>>
>>110217369
>NEVER store important data on an SSD
NEVER store important data without a backup.

Fixed that for you. Sorry you had to learn the lesson this way.

You're not wrong about M.2 drives: the form factor is utter shit and (especially Gen 4 and 5) are ticking time bombs without active cooling. It's a shame U.2 and E1.S drives aren't available with consumer-tier internals at consumer prices.

But even if we could all have those better form factors, we should all still have regular backups.

>>110217428
You're not entirely right. You're not entirely wrong. If a NAND-based drive is off too long, you can lose data, but the drive's controller won't magically die. You can disregard the bad data, reformat, and start using it again.

However, data loss when "off for too long" varies greatly based on the number of bits per NAND cell.
TLC drives should easily be fine for three years, maybe as long as five (although that is getting risky).
QLC drives are utter shit and you should never use them, but if you must, they need to be powered on once a year.
Old SLC and MLC drives last 10 years. Last year I found my first SSD, an old 60GB from 2010 that I hadn't used since at least 2015. It came up just fine. I had carried the data with me to other computers and drives, but it was cool to see the device still working fine.
>>
>>110217410
these shitty drives have always failed on me and sound horrible.

i have several ssds and not one has failed. i have a ssd from my childhood thats 120gb and that has been overriden thousands of times by linux distros, me doing stuoid shit like zeroing it and dandomizing it, putting it in zfs pools etc. still runs as on day one. i think its some wd green somethinf
>>
there's no such thing as a good storage medium for a single point of failure
Everything fails, and everything fails under its own unique circumstances.
That's why you have things like the 3-2-1 rule
>>
>>110217369
You mean, always keep backup of important stuff in case of data loss? Wow, you just invented data backup!

I'm so sorry
>>
>>110217369
Maybe you should've been kinder to it. I kiss my SSDs before bed every single night. I bet you never even paid attention to yours.

Another zoom zoom learned a lesson xd
