Jeez the cope.
>they dip
-50% 1Y isn't a dip. And that's how much the companies that are mostly AI/datacenter have tanked. Coreweave and oracle.

Tech minus AI hype isn't down. Apple has almost no money wasted on AI so they aren't down. Worlds largest/second largest company btw. No one sold it off.

Furthermore you don't need to liquidate these days if you're up & confident. Just use the margin you gained. Money is leaving AI because it's so clear how unprofitable it is and it's not moving to temporary cash positions, it's moving to solid profitable companies that have been undervalued because of the AI hype.

Here's the 1 month view.
>Apple +4.3%
>Google -16.9%
>Coreweave -38%
The market is slightly bullish on tech as seen from apple but AI is being sold off, so companies see a drop based on how much of them (Their valuations, technically) are based on AI.
>>110218059
It's only a minor factor, a catalyst in the sudden sell-off only but as you can see googles drop is very well correlated with the bearish AI sentiment, and they already lost 6% during the start of this, before earnings.
Also if this was the main driver, you'd see AI going up at that time, but it tanked.

I'm ok with DCs because I'm employed in one and helps America get back into building things.
The actual versus perceived harm for datacenters is so skewed,
The way I also see it is if DCs can't be built then you can't build anything because most industry is worse.

I'm not against data centers per se--data centers have recently become negatively associated with AI development efforts, despite them having other enterprise uses--I'm against the fact that governments (Burgerland's in particular) have voiced their interest in the adoption of AI for the sake of (indiscriminate) surveillance efforts.

On the part of pragmatism, there's also the matter of straining the already struggling/outdated (and reportedly vulnerable) power infrastructure. You can argue that they're just trying to keep up with everyone else by building a fuckton of data centers to meet projected demand, but I highly doubt the government will at some point go ahead and retrofit the power stations they siphon from; it's much more likely for them to just keep pumping money into construction of data centers.

Then there's also environmental concerns. Both with respect to the actual environment; pollution, and the residential areas that data centers are frequently presented as having been built right next to if not in the middle of. The former is inconsequential since we've already raped the planet with microplastics; you voice concerns about all the (man-made) shit potentially giving you cancer, and morons write you off as a tree hugger fag. The latter, niggercattle deserve for their lack of (purposeful) protest/action--at least to prevent data centers' presence/construction from disrupting their day-to-day lives. Though I suppose anyone who raises such concerns would just be written off as a disruptive element i.e. an astroturfing chinaman.
>>
>>110222877
>most industry is worse
Not really.
>>
>>110224557

>>110224518
>, there's also the matter of straining the already struggling/outdated (and reportedly vulnerable) power infrastructure
The best way to strengthen the grid is to actually have demand and force utilities to build. The US in particular has been shrinking industry and even well before any datacenter discussion there has been polices trying to basically strongarm the populace into using less electricity by rising rates with shutting down power plants and only halfway replacing them with renewables.
The local DC in my aera actually invests in the grid. Our rates are LOWER when you count inflation despite there being a multi-gigawatt campus close by that has 10x in size in the last decade and a half.

>Then there's also environmental concerns. Both with respect to the actual environment; pollution
It's a datacenter, not a plant with any number of chemical waste, literally the worse thing is the process water treatment which often gets sent back to the municipalities to be treated, Even then it's mostly propylene glycol.
>that data centers are frequently presented as having been built right next to if not in the middle of
Keyword is PRESENTED, of course there are some built in rather bad aeras (for a DC) but they are the exception. Most people couldn't even guess the locations of some of the biggest DCs because they are rather remote.
It's actually not advantageous to build in a residential aera in general because of land costs.
Even then most of the examples of "datacenter in your back yard" are from people that literally moved in right next to it or was a previously unused industrial zoned aera. There should have been no surprise that property might be resold.

>>110224557
Live next to a papermill and you'd be BEGGING for a datacenter to be built on top if it.
