CHECK EBAY I REMEMBER PAYING $45 FOR MY i7

They were great at around 2015 since they were at the bottom of depreciation and not enough time passed for the plastics to degrade.
Now it's a shitty degraded plastic laptop, most of them have cracked palmrests and bezels, the rubber coating on the outer shell is starting to turn into goop.
Prices are high because good examples are getting super rare these days.

Is this inflated? I thought they had been up at these prices for a while

I think a lot of pathetic normoids and retards have caught onto the thinkpad meme pushing up prices across the board especially for older models

I have maybe 4 or 5 inc X220 / x230T I need to sell quick

I remember when I sold my shitty AMD FX 9 series Acer in 2014 and got an X220 for £200 it was like heaven

However USB2, 1366 x 768, no NVME and the thing got hot as shit, couldn't use it forever

Still a nice design though

Honestly the best thing you can get now is an M2-M4 Macbook or a Snapdragon laptop with Linux on it

Is there a way to stop rubber things from turning into goop?
I've considered scraping off what I can from a gaming mouse I've got and maybe replacing it with a piece of deer leather I've got lying around.
>>
>>110232450
X220 and X230 are fucking trash because Lenovo made them so difficult to service. You basically have to disassemble the entire laptop just to do something as simple as replacing the thermal paste.

>muh heckin old ThinkPaderinos repairability

On newer ThinkPads, you just remove the back cover and you're done. You have access to the RAM, SSD, cooling system, etc.

The performance was also fine because of the 2012-2017 CPU stagnation due to intel monopoly. It wasn't worth buying a newer laptop when they were locked to dualcore which by 2017 was really low end.
Then ryzen came, and CPU performance for consumers doubled in a year.

No it's fair tbqh. These are mostly collector/novelty now and there is a floor where it's no longer worth listing and shipping something.

I want the objectively better computer

low quality plastics will kill themselves eventually. Anyone who's been around the low quality plastics from retro computers, macs specifically has seen it happen a million times. Even snoys crt monitors were notorious for it and start yelling then crack. Not much you can do really
as for your mouse what model is it? A lot of the logitech rubber trash that degrades over time goes all the way to the shell as far as i know so can't do much
>>
>>110234503
It's a Razr deathadder, I've worn a hole with my fingers through the rubber and there's hard smooth plastic underneath so my deerskin idea might work. I'd hate to throw away a mouse that's otherwise perfectly functional.

it's probably thanks in part to those performative analog fags on social media
same thing with old ipods

People are hoarding tech in anticipation of the corporate nightmare we're headed for, where AI fags will own all the tech and plebs won't own shit.

if it's like pic relate you can literally just pull it off, replace it with a new one, or do what you said
some of the newer ones i think its more of an issue if it's blended in

Is it possible to buy new batteries for the x220 ?
>>
>>110234546
it's redditors and tiktok fags inflating things again more like, the more obsolete and dog shit something is the more it's shilled. Random ass tech channels will show some garbage crt,pc, speakers, really anything that gets hundreds of thousands of views and the first thing the viewers do is go to ebay and buy it
i mean it's at the point junk vcr/tvs are $300+ for 13' because 35 year women on tiktok say "it's the greatest thing i've ever owned."
Think vinyls 10 years ago but a new one pops up every other week because of those two platforms

>Is it possible to buy new batteries for the x220 ?
Easily. There are plenty of aftermarket batteries available for the X220 and X230. The X220 Tablet batteries however, are a different story. It seems even chinks have stopped making them, judging by how little stock is left
>>
>>110234587
yes but only generic ones
I remember back in the day they had a battery recall and sent me a new genuine battery quite a while after I bought the machine and had already put hundreds of cycles on it. may have also got a second "replacement" with the battery serial number off a random google image

We chilling then. Just use x220 for comfy posting and writing and stuff.

Just remote connect to powerful desktop to do anything that requires power.

Speaking from experience tinkering with my collection, older models are indeed much harder to service than newer ones (T470/T480 era). Sure you can swap the CPU in a T60 and that’s awesome, but to do it you have to remove the palmrest, keyboard, top panel near the screen, all of that without breaking brittle 20yo plastic. The cooler is a multi-part solution: brackets, different screw lengths, etc. It’s doable, sure, but way harder than something like the T470 where you just pop off the bottom cover.

The X220 series though? These are the niggers of ThinkPads. My X220 Tablet is getting quite toasty (like 86°C), but I’m not gonna risk it cracking into a million pieces during a full disassembly just to change the paste because the plastic has gotten so brittle, and you literally have to remove everything, including the motherboard.

youtubers bandwagoning onto linux are under the impression they must buy a thinkpad for their larp.

I put PTM on mine

Didn't change a fuckin thing. Its Sandy Bridge in 2026. Shit ran hot when it was new with fresh paste. Its gonna run even hotter with anything more then XFCE and 4 tabs going today
