Only tech illiterates hate Rust.
>>
>>110249082
cloned some small rust project the otherday because it looked interesting and after building the folder grew to 40 fucking gb
what the actual fuck?
>>
>>110249090
it was a cargo bomb
>>
>>110249082
I don't know a thing about coding but dislike rust because people make tranny memes about it.
>>
>>110249090
proof!
>>
rust is overengineered unreadable slop language. Its defenders (aka transexuals) use exact same arguments as jeet "coders" who slop up 10 layers of factory abstractions in Java then call everyone who doesn't understand this mess dumb.
>>
>>110249172
>t. has never used rust
>>
>>110249082
>goyphene
then why are you posting a tweet written by a tech illiterate
>>
>>110249196
>t. lied until proven otherwise
>>
>>110249106
yeah it was using cargo. is there any way to avoid this?

>>110249172
cant be arsed right now, try it yourself
>>
>>110249275
NTA but no, its just how it is - https://github.com/rust-lang/cargo/issues/13136. Had to vibe myself some shit to clean those up in the background because clankers could make it grow to 500GB+ routinely
>>
>>110249196
I have been using Rust for nearly 10 years and never my project grew to 40GB.
Maybe he installed some library that wraps some large AI models or other big binary blob? 40GB is way more than you'd ever need in any real project. Even biggest projects usually end up as couple of GBs top.
>>
>>110249193
It's the literal opposite of what you are referring to. People who praised design patterns are OOPfags, the same people that added that shit to C++ later.
Rust goes into FP direction instead. It has no features to enable that sort of patterns. Instead, it's more in line with stuff pushed by people who like FP like Haskell or Lisp.
>>
>>110249193
people who say "factory abstractions" as an insult without a concrete example of what the issue is are literally retarded and who's opinion should be disregarded

t. actually hates java too.
>>
>>110249082
>zero dynamic code loading
While static libraries are preferred, Rust supports dynamic ones and they're used by some crates, so this part is wrong,
>>
I'm not tech illiterate, I'm Rust illiterate. By choice.
Neither the syntax nor the tools are good enough by my judgment, so I can't justify using it under either argument, let alone both.

The promise is nice, the idea is nice, the attempt and implementations are not there yet and I've been saying this for years now so I'm not expecting LLVM and the rest of the toolchain to suddenly take less than 1 hour and 1GB to produce hello world written in some hodgepodge syntax zoo.

I do wish it was good and maybe it will be one day but I've held that wish for a while. Either for Rust itself or a competitor. But the status quo is what it currently is.
>>
>>110249426
I think more generally he may have meant like static dispatching. Like in Rust, I extremely rarely use dyn keyword.
>>
>>110249473
Ok, so continue using your nonfree visual studio and cshart aids and leave us chads alone.
If you're going to claim C++ tooling is better, you're literally retarded.

Why do GC/VM lang shitters feel the need to shit up discourse on things they don't understand?
>>
>>110249495
I never mentioned C++ and explicitly named LLVM so I don't know what you're on about. C++ doesn't use a GC or VM by default either so you're really confused.
>>
>>110249507
No. I'm calling you a babby who's opinion doesn't matter. Fuck off kiddo.
>>
>>110249520
What's got you acting this way?
>>
>>110249528
You're like the retards who go into Linux threads and start saying shit no one cares about and why you're on Windows.
Good for you, now fuck off.
>>
>>110249577
You're expressing your care for these opinions right now. Negatively, but you obviously are passionate about the topic. I imagine you're personally invested in Rust in some way.
The purpose of this site is to talk to each other, and the topic of this thread is Rust and hatred of it, so I'm not sure what you were expecting to read.

In any case you seem to have some personal problem going on causing you to act frustrated and goad for attention, so I'm willing to hear you out if you want to talk about it. You say nobody cares but I prove you wrong.
>>
>>110249082
>Only tech illiterates hate Rust.
That's not what he said, if you're implying that. No more Rust war threads.
>>
>>110249600
Your opinion is literally worthless.
You don't use rust or any real programming language so your opinions on compile times and tooling are moot.

Again, fuck off.
>>
>>110249082
fuck off, daniel. you're such an intellectually bankrupt fraud.
>>
>>110249737
You're asserting things without basis. Contradictory things at that.
You're asking me to leave but this is a public space so the answer is no.
I'd rather talk to you about what's making you say these things because you're lashing out as if you want attention.
>>
>>110249484
It is true that you seldom use dynamic dispatch but why would that matter? Dynamic dispatch is just matter of trading performance for binary size, it has nothing to do with security.
>>
C++ will copy the best parts of Rust by 2029 being a Rustranny is a choice
>>
>>110249315
exactly. debug builds could be a little bit bigger, but usually not even close to 10GiB for a BIG project.
but it's a typical "/g/eet wintard who never compiled anything in any language" tall tale. and it's always hilarious how the /g/eet never even manages to fabricate a pathological use-case to prove their meme claim. lol.
>>
>>110249818
correct. unlike inheritance hell/confusion, or whatever tardations oop fags do or call these things, rust never calls "the wrong code".
>>
>>110249985
Literally impossible without dropping backwards compatilbility.

do you know what standards are?
https://isocpp.org/std/the-standard
>>
>>110249985
Rust is already the C++ but with better design choices. If you wanted to copy the best parts of Rust(which also includes having no huge legacy baggage) to C++, you would just end up with Rust.
>>
>>110249082
You know, if rust was pitched as compiled java alternative. I think more people would be on board with it.
>>
>>110250342
>if rust was pitched as compiled java alternative
That true for C++, not Rust. Rust is the compiled Haskell/Ocaml alternative

I was vaguely interested in it for gamedev but stopped using it after a year of prototyping. Native ADTs in a systems language is really nice, but affine types are kind of a pain in the ass. Compile times are abhorrent for no reason at all. The module system kind of fucking sucks too.
Also between the async shit and the ecosystem being obsessed with microdependencies, it's one of the most painfully webdev brained languages I've ever used.
>>
>comparing to Java
Immense cope lmao. Rotten fish is delicious if you’re comparing it to a literal pile of feces, but that doesn’t mean it’s good.
>>
>>110250227
Anybody who has ever migrated a real world, large codebase across standards knows that "backwards compatibility" is literally disingenuous cope from the standards committee.
>>
>>110250693
By that logic, Rust will never catch C++
>>
>>110250711
What?
>>
>>110249082
ngl i've been using rust and it's good for AI coding because it's very safe and forces the agent to do it right the first time
there's probably some other alternatives tho I'm open to recs
>>
>Dude, just churn out years and years of solid code the kind that’s already the industry standard and go suck Google dick!

I used rust for a toy project and just checked, the project directory is 22GB. Anon ain't lying, this is some npm level shit

You are pulling in entire fucking electron in along with bunch of webdev crap m8. Do you know what Tauri is?
>>

you skipped the fact that no actual proof was provided, anon.
a proof requires reproducible steps. otherwise:
# dd if=/dev/zero bs=20G count=1 > target/BIG
du -sh target

is acceptable proof

ive been learning it recently , including solving some puzzles in both C and rust

im beginning to see why people like it i can do shit with 1 line of rust that take dozens of lines of C but everything is a lot more implicit and abstracted away. C is more fun atleast on low level operations

maybe you can do the same in rust idk yet ive only written my first line of rust this week
