Would you use GNU/NT?
scary times to live in
>>110251435Wasn't this one of the major points of NT kernel to begin with? Took them a while.
>>110251435>performs better than WSL1 and WSL2Proofs? WSL2 is literally a Linux VM. WSL1 already ran majority of shit, did so years ago.
>>110251483Sort of. It was more "New Technology" was supposed to be able to be replaced. So this is falling under old 1990's hype for NT, but I think MS killed it when OS/2 killed itself and Linux wasn't enough of a "threat" at the time to care.
>>110251435>Runs great on RISC-VThey ported all software to RISC-V? Great!
>>110251435GNU's not Tunix?
>>110251499>Linux wasn't enough of a "threat" at the time to care.Linux will never be enough of a threat to care. It was a few years ago, it's not now and it won't be in 10 years.
GREAT TWITTER SCREENSHOT THREAD THANKS FOR POSTING
>>110251435Isn't this just ReactOS?
Looks like a cuck trying to make money off of vibecoded reactos
Booted it and it looks kinda cool actually, like an undecided mix of windows 11 and 7
>>110251435Earlier today I was wondering if LiberNT was making progress or if it was like all vibecoded stuff, a promising start and then nothing.Very happy to see that it's going well.I am still on Win7 and yes, I plan to move on to LiberNT when it's ready. It's crazy that it can run both Windows software and Linux software, on three different CPU architectures to cap if off.I hope so much that Microsoft won't kill it.>>110251483>Wasn't this one of the major points of NT kernel to begin with?If I'm not mistaken, the story was that they wanted to move on from DOS so they created OS/2 along with IBM, but then they clashed with IBM, so they created NT, but they could not sell NT to regular people for some reason I don't remember, so they kept NT for businesses and created Win95 for regular people.
>>110251760>>110251831I don't want to spit on the people who worked on ReactOS, but LiberNT seems to make more progress in a month than ReactOS did in ten years.>>110251929>Booted itDid you try to run software in it? Did you try to run it "bare metal" instead of inside a VM?>mix of windows 11 and 7I hope they took only the good parts of 11...
>>110252044Try it yourself im not gonna go though the effort
>>110251435
>>110251435if it runs my software (firefox, steam, wine, vim, etc) and doesnt spy on me i couldn't care less if i was using the most homo tranny kernel on the market
>>110251435>1338 viewsOP is just self posting
>>110252018>to regular people for some reason I don't rememberworkstation hardware was expensive and NT was a huge operating system as huge as UNIX. So they kept making more DOS with fancy guis (Win95)
A lot of stuff dont work like this entire section called legacy settings, maybe itll be ready in another 10 years, and then itll need grpu driver support, another 10 years geeg
>>110251435nvidia driver status?
>>110252018>I am still on Win7 and yes, I plan to move on to LiberNT when it's ready. But why? Wine is pretty good these days.
>>110251435Maybe. having that can Windows applications natively, but using MESA and xfce would be pretty tempting.
>>110252150Unironically probably better chances then AMD or anything else. Considering Haiku has full RTX support with acceleration.
>>110251435It's not a variant of the GNU system, so just calling it LiberNT is fineBut nice that you can run all the other stuff too
>>110252183A few software that I use everyday that WINE still can't run. And no I don't want to learn some equivalent software. Also I never was able to have my old E-MU sound card work with Linux either, and I use its proprietary vst in all my music tracks. All my old stuff just work perfectly on Win7 and I don't believe the security bullshit. But I know one day I won't be able to use Win7 anymore and I want to use 10/11 about as much as I want to drink a glass of vomit, so it'll be either LiberNT or Mint, but as I said there are stuff I can't have working on Linux so I hope LiberNT ends up really usable. I suppose it's the same boring story for all the people who keep using 7, we are not retarded, just very attached to some software or hardware that we can't have working on Linux.
>>110252074>1338 viewsIt's sad that so few people are interested in LiberNT, despite it being the only hope for NT to survive Microsoft's stupidness. Much more people would be interested in a 14.786.324th Linux distribution...
>>110251435Genuinely, use case?
>>110252018>>110252044I thought "Liber" was a typo at first
>>110251435it seems like the worst of both worldsshouldn't it be Win32 on linux?
>>110252764If they can get it working right we can leave Linux behind, Linux has been a failure on the desktop.
>>110252811NT is a great system. your problems are with the jeetification of microsofthttps://www.windowslatest.com/2026/09/26/google-researcher-explains-why-windows-nt-puts-linux-to-shame-and-imagines-an-alternate-history-where-it-won/
>>110252802It's really its name. I suppose the devs are german or maybe it's a play of word on "liberty".
>>110252875NT isn't that much better than UNIX systems. Smalltalks and Lisps are even better. For me the main advantage is the LiberNT team hopefully adopting the same mindset of keeping backward compatibility as a promise. Everything else is whatever.
>>110252875Yeah, except multitasking didn't work until win2k and networking took until win7 (there's a reason they sold Killer NICs, a Linux PC for your PC).In the 90s you generally had one NT machine per NT service, while Linucen and BSDs handled as many services as you had RAM for.
>>110251435I don't get it. Isn't this just ReactOS? Why should I care?
