Right now, the main problem is that any of the smaller size open weights models can't even beat GPT 6 Luna, let alone Haiku 5.5 in benches for real world performance stuff. The models that hit that threshold are all out of most people's reaches. I would like if Qwen can hit at least that but I have major doubts about this considering how the capability gap between the frontier labs and open weights has widened considerably. That is my biggest worry where Qwen 4 won't close the gap

Why were people harping on about llama.cpp's --moe-cache-mib? It seems to be useless. The decode speed is slightly worse than if I just manually tuned --n-cpu-moe and the prefill is much worse.
I did pull and rebuild the commit from about an hour ago where they changed the algorithm, doesn't seem to have gotten much better. --n-cpu-moe is still superior.

Hardware got a LOT more expensive. Used to be you could build a dual xeon v4 with 256GB RAM, fill all the PCIe slots with P100s, and run something like LLaMA 3 70B decently, and not spend more than $1000 on it.
Secondly, people's expectations have changed. Used to be people were happy with roleplay and an 8K context. Now, I'm pissed off how fast I hit 160K when QFN is writing code for me.
Stuff like Strata is a decent leveler, but still, you need a lot of VRAM and system RAM to stay off your NVMe, and it's all too expensive for most people to play with.

unfortunately "don't do this" or "never do this" or "avoid this" does not work with LLMs. believe me I've tried.

Instead, always say to it what you would like it to do. remove the word tsundre and instead ask for tsundre characteristics, "{{char}} is guarded and reserved with strangers but they are warmer and friendlier with people they know"

I upgraded my Claude subscription from $20 to $100 tier. It's crazy, I have Opus 5.5 running for hours working autonomously on projects and it rarely ever goes above 30% of my 5 hour limit. I could let Opus run 24/7 and never reach my limits.

I use local models all the time but only for tinkering and experiments. I don't see how they make sense for actual usage. Cloud is much cheaper and more capable. For the price of a Pro 6000 you can have Opus run 24/7 for more than a decade.
>>

The safest way would probably be to get some cheap laptop without any personal files for when cloud models decide to snoop around.

I think the most reasonable compromise is using cloud for anything that doesn't matter like throwaway scripts (since it's nothing the AI hasn't seen already) or projects you were going to upload to github anyway (since they're going in the training data regardless).

Local models are perfect for actual usage as a local agent. Have it manage files on your system, emails, fix problems, etc, because you can have that functionality without having your entirely filesystem silently uploaded and scanned.
>>
>>110258887
For me, its the environmentalism angle. I feel guilty calling on beefier AI in a data center that's browning out American cities AND waterways.
>>
ChatGPT is recommending OLMo and Qwen for non-zionist LLMs. At most I'll be using my AI to make some romhacks. Is your guys' Qwen redpilled on the jews? I have a 7900XTX and 32GB of 2667mhz DDR4 RAM.
>>
>>110258935
sure, you can also isolate the shell, but then the claude bot can't do real work. i start to believe that this is their entire pitch: the product becomes so useful that people give up the sovereignty of their own systems and put it into the hands of a silicon valley company. imagine being in control of that LLM endpoint.

Why? I run agents in an unprivileged second user but that is because I am worried about supply chain attacks when creating envs with hundreds of dependencies, and as guard against destructive actions (which never happened). Why would I run a local model agent on my main user but not Claude? For Claude there's lower risk of stumbling into some sensitive dir like where I keep my tax documents and doing something stupid with it.

How do you guys handle long context roleplays regarding storage? Do you ever purge old image gens to save file space? I'm putting together a structure for a roleplay agentic harness and I'm thinking that to hold the turn state of all turns I could make each turn be a git commit (with each swipe a branch) but something that is holding this back is that you can never really delete old images to save space due to them being etched in the old commits. Personally I never really delete them, but I usually end up ending the roleplay before the image count gets too huge.

I actually imagined someone would have torrents of Claude AI because the switch 2 hack scene is all about using Claude to reverse engineer the code. I would love to have a genius AI at my fingertips to help me make a romhack with an amazing story akin to the world we live in (murderous cabal team rocket that wants complete world domination and is willing to sell anyone and everything to gain control, kill anyone, etc. it would make for a good nuzlocke mode). I mainly just wanna use it to generate pixel art, help me maintain a long flowing story and help fill out plot holes, also properly implement mega evolutions and QoL features that make the game worth playing.

That's really cool. I love the idea of offloading whimsical concepts to the AI, and frankly it's teaching more about reverse engineering and the coding systems than I would have easily learned myself. Like imagine having some programmer of X game's Discord server paid to tutor you and teach you the ropes, I feel like I'm getting that and it's amazing.
So I've been running Qwen 3.5, is 3.8 that much of a bump up on performance or knowledge? I'll that hit up if so. What I'm really mostly worried about is my RTX3070 being too small for the job and needing to invest in something more modern of a GPU.

Proving and Improving the Platonic Representation Hypothesis with JEPAs

Randall Balestriero, Yann LeCun

Whether models trained on different modalities converge to the same representation of the world is central to AI. The Platonic Representation Hypothesis (PRH) conjectures that they do as they scale, but without a proof it offers neither a guarantee nor a recipe. We turn the hypothesis into a theorem. First, we prove a \emph{Platonic Representation Theorem}: Joint-Embedding Predictive Architectures (JEPAs) trained separately on any number of modalities learn the same representation up to one rotation whenever their positive pairs are two observations of one scene--\emph{good views}--and their misalignment is bounded otherwise. Second, we show that next-token prediction is a JEPA with \emph{bad views}, parts of a single document, which explains why language models align with vision only through scale. Third, we validate the theory from 145k captions to the texts of 940M web images, and uncover a scaling law of alignment that predicts unseen runs within seed noise. Good views need 42 times fewer training samples than next-token prediction on the same corpus to reach the same alignment, and a 109M-parameter text JEPA aligns with DINOv2 and CLIP's image encoders better than every language model we evaluated, up to 72B parameters, and than CLIP's text encoder: next-token prediction is a remarkably inefficient route to platonic representations. As a showcase, one rotation turns separately trained encoders into an image captioner (CIDEr .838 on COCO). Even that rotation needs no pair: on the latest pair-free benchmark, our text JEPA beats every zero-shot accuracy reported with language models up to 8B parameters, e.g., 64\% against at most 56\% top-5 on ImageNet-100. Positive views, and not scale alone, are thus the lever to build platonic representations.

im sorry, but do you seriously expect the rest of its training to turn a model that's barely competitive with one less than half its size into something revolutionary?

also, even if it does improve substantially, there's still the increased cost
why spend over twice the memory and memory bandwidth on marginally better performance when you could just run 27B with more context or multi-agents

also, as >>110259690 said, better models will be out by the time this thing even releases :P

Tell me you don't understand how MoE works without telling me you don't understand how MoE works.

MoE models typically have dense components such as a dense backbone and shared experts.

An MoE model with absolutely no dense components would never generate anything actually useful

dude do you guys all make your own desktop applications that are connected to your LLM or do you use something like LM studio? I wanted a sweet custom made desktop application that remembers conversations and does everything like ChatGPT, calls me what i want, and that i can train with the press of a button on all the stuff in my computer. Is there a tutorial on setting it up? I have Glimmer running on my web browser but it doesn't look cool and it forgot what we spoke about after i closed it. I tried to get it to make the code itself but it doesn't have the ability to generate files and edit folders and stuff. Am I asking for too much out of the box? I figure i have to make all of that stuff myself (i know nothing about coding). <3

I think so, but I've never used them. I just know they exist. Most of those have a setup step that guides you through it. You'll need to be willing to experiment on your own. Once you find one you like, try to make it add whatever features you need.

I have a 5060Ti and 64GB ram, I use strata on cachyos

IQ3_xss leaves me about 10gb of ram, fucks up every now and then. 60-70 tok/sec

IQ3_s leaves me with 2gb of ram, more accurate 50-60tok/sec

The strata nvfp4 model has worked the best for me though, leaves me with -10Gb of ram left for other stuff and I still get 15-25 tok/sec with it reading from ssd. Very rarely fucks up; except the ocr on vision, that was consistently wrong everytime I tried using it.
