Yes, in order to counteract deep fakes, uploaded images have stricter moderation than entirely "imaginary" images and videos (files that were created in Grok or can be directly traced back to one without ever leaving the system) get the most permissive (relatively speaking) moderation.
There seems to be a bit of a half way house where grok can recognize it's own images and is a hit more relaxed when they're uploaded, but it's still harsher than native files.
They did relax things about a month ago when the new TOS shifted something liability onto users, but only the gun industry has a legal exemption from the consequences of their customers actions (and the court of public opinion doesn't care about the law anyway) so don't expect them to ever remove the extra restrictions entirely
Obviously people sometimes find ways around, but that's the way it's supposed to work.

Anyone else got the new reference system added in 1.5 yet? Appeared for me on desktop earlier. A bit more sophisticated than the existing image refs. You can pick gens directly from your history so they don't get treated as uploads and add them to a "character" "place" or "prop". Couldn't get these two topless together before.
Biggest problem, it's t2v only. That and the audio is pretty shit, even by Grok standards.
