That is how the earliest drawthreads were (or so people claim). More chaotic and toxic than they already are? That drama comes from a request spammer who is on several drawthreads. What possible drama could come from an artist sharing unrequested art? Perhaps that might lead to a requested art being drawn if someone were to ask the artist "hey I like that pic you posted, would you be open to any extra ideas?". Maybe they say no, but maybe they say yes and now you have an artist who has drawn a request.Given how basically all drawthreads across the site are in decline for a multitude of reasons, there really is no reason to gatekeep when you should be thinking in the mindset of "we need everyone on this ship to keep it afloat". At this point, I honestly doubt the drawthread would be over run with non-requested art if the rule was removed. It would just function normally with an artist once every so often posting some of their own non-request art.
