Why did we name the planets after dead LARPagan gods instead of angels or saints?
>>18487575They were already named before christianity
>>18487575They are not dead and never were nor are they LARP. You are simply a troglodyte who views the gods from the lens of a Marvel consoomer (including of course Jeebus himself).
>>18487577So why weren’t they renamed after Christianization?
>>18487577In 18th century, Uranus was a Greek gods and honor of King George instead Latin
>>18487585Instead of using the name of the Greek god Uranus, we should have named the 7th planet after his Roman counterpart Caelus to be more consistent with the other planets that use the Roman names. Literally the only argument I’ve seen against this is “the Greek counterparts deserve representation.” But in Greek, they refer to the planets by the names of their Greek counterparts. So even if the 7th planet was named Caelus internationally, Greek-speakers would still call it Uranus.
>>18487575paco the tradcath seething about planet names now kek
>>18487580Well after some point it just became a fun anachronism. By 700 AD or somewhere around there, the idea of the planets being named after mythological gods was fun and wasn't seriously connected to any living religion. As to why Christians never wanted to rename them? (in the centuries where it would be relevant for them to do so) Well, I suppose it was a hornet's nest they never wanted to touch. As long as people knew who the true God was, it didn't matter what they called things in the sky.But unless there is any particular document from that time written on this, we can only speculate.
>>18487605freemasons named the planets after pagan gods o algo
>>18487575 It was gods that was named after planets
>>18487598>literally as adverbGet off this board, negroidic-thinking douchebag.
>>18487577Yeah. Phaethon, Phaenon, Pyrois, Phosphorus, Hesperus, and Stilbon.
>>18487575That's what bothers you, and not that naming all days of the week in English is like doing a pagan ritual (2 celestial bodies, 4 Germanic deities and a Roman god)?
>>18487575Christians did believe that Saturn's ring was rebbe yeshu's mutilated foreskin. I can't imagine why people preferred names like Jupiter or Venus to rebbe's foreskin and that the Christian myth has faded to history.
