There's a funny story related to this: Jesuit Cathcucks researching Chinese history to make Catholic Theology relatable to the Changs researched about the Shang Dynasty and found out the Shang Kings only had one Patron God (Shangdi). The Jesuits then started teaching Ming Dynasty Changs that "Hey you already knew of the Christian god!!! He was known as Shangdi to you guys!!!" The problem was: Shangdi was a dead ancient Chinese god with 0 worshippers by the Ming Dynasty. So Christians ended up looking like edgy neopagans to contemporary Chinese.It's why modern Chinese Christians use "Tianzhu" (Lord of Heaven) to talk about the Abrahamic god.
