>lines up the most absurdly "OP" inheritance in European history

Charles V always struck me as a tragic waste of potential. Not dissing the guy, managing the absolute shitshow that was his personal empire in an age where mail had to be physically carried from A to B on fucking horseback must have been a nightmare, it's actually insane that the Conquistadores in Peru and Mexico even nominally obeyed him at all given the distances. Still, he strikes me as a weird figure in Europe, everything was setup for "so much more" than what was delivered

I created billions of dollars worth of rap music and I received nothing for it, I live in poverty being abused by retards, I never would have been allowed to benefit from anything that I achieved, it would have been pointless to achieve more because I would still be living in poverty being abused by retarded trannies or I'd just be dead

Yeah but the different spheres had far too many different interests to be administered in a uniform fashion. Especially since the german estates (including the catholic ones) weren't too thrilled about the imperial position becoming stronger. Still he often managed to tardwrangle his enourmes ressources together and was quite succesful all things considered.
Probably my favorite episodes were him checking France advances in Italy and conquering Tunis in the 1530s.

He would've been fine had he just burned Luther at the stake and executed the king of France after Pavia
>>
>>18492135
Charles V. actually wanted to declare the Imperial Ban against Luther before the Imperial Diet of Worms 1521 but several imperial estates were against this and warned him that this could have led to popular uprisings. Especially as Charles V. guaranteed in his Electoral Capitulation of 1519 that everyone was guaranteed a lawful trial. And while Charles V. found Luther guilty of being a heretic he was unable to persue the imperial estates to enforce his verdict.
And having Francis I. of France executed would have been totally against the character of Charles V. and against the customs of the times.

He put a lot of energy and willpower into ruling, it's just a lot of strain and so many variables to manage with many rivals on both the outside & inside of his domains

A King executing a fellow, Christian, King at that time just wouldn't fly, he'd by nuking his own diplomatic reputation and his own personal convictions in doing so.
He couldn't just murk Luther explicitly because German states were providing Luther asylum/refuge and Charles couldn't afford to go around starting an enormous war in Germany when he was already stressing managing everything he had.

He should have just given the Netherlands and Milan to Ferdinand, it would have probably prevented the Dutch revolt and allowed the Habsburgs to centralize rule over the HRE more effectively.

>and Milan
for what fucking reason? the territory as all territories in italy was tied to the spanish crown.
>>
>>18493132
Francis was a traitor to Christendom, he allied with the Ottomans. He deserved death
>>
>>18493364
If only he had more legitimate heirs. The man just had too many territories.
>>
>>18493375
The territories in Italy were rightfully apart of the Holy Roman Empire for hundreds of years at that point. There was no "Spanish Crown" because Spain didn't exist until 1707.

If only Pavia turned into a Flodden
>>
>>18493364
Why? In reality Charles V. got the spanish posessions (including the ones in Italy) and the Burgundian Netherlands. Ferdinand I. got the Austrian Hereditary Lands. What would Ferdinand I. have done differently in the low countries and Italy?
>>18493499
He had five legitimate children - with the issue that two were girls and two of the three boys died in childhood. He also legitimised two of his bastards.
>>18493513
Charles V. did seize Milan as an imperial fief and gave it to his son Philip II.
>>
>>18493557
Philips II was loathed by the Dutch nobility for being Spanish, only speaking Spanish and staying in Spain 99% of his life while sending a w*man over to govern the Low Countries in a centralised manner who surrounded herself with Spaniard advisors. Having Ferdinand be king would at least alleviate the nationalist angle of the Dutch revolt.

what is this nonsense? most of the territory in italy were part of the crown of aragon

I see your point. Still Charles V. wanted his son and heir, Philip II., to become the Emperor after his brother Ferdinand I. But his idea of the Spanish Succession of the Imperial Crown failed due to the resistence of Ferdinand I. and his son. Thus in 1555 the Habsburg dynasty was definately split in a spanish and austrian line - all with different territorial claims.
>Having Ferdinand be king would at least alleviate the nationalist angle of the Dutch revolt.
Probably. Ferdinand I. was also more pragmatic and willing to do compromises. But Charles V. wanted the rich low countries to remain in his spanish line of the Habsburg.
