Especially since the german estates (including the catholic ones) weren't too thrilled about the imperial position becoming stronger. Still he often managed to tardwrangle his enourmes ressources together and was quite succesful all things considered. Probably my favorite episodes were him checking France advances in Italy and conquering Tunis in the 1530s.

But his idea of the Spanish Succession of the Imperial Crown failed due to the resistence of Ferdinand I. and his son.
