Why did Africa get conquered so easily when it's protected by literally the biggest desert on Earth??
>>
they came in by sea retard
>>
>>18494913
Why weren't they able to build boats themselves
>>

To go where? They are already in a land of abundance.
>>
They feared the European warrior.

Well for one there was like no one there. People tend to forget that until recently Europe accounted for over 20% of the worlds population. More people in Europe than in Africa at the time.

They had canoes.

Also, black people are relatively non-buoyant. Little room for error; experimentation very discouraged in the nautical area.

Ahh yes, the "magical teleporting Arab" meme. One hand to fellas Arabs, the next you treat them as demons. American racial narrarives are so schizophrenic. Not even the funny or "this could actually be a setup for a fantasy setting" shit you see in Balkan schizo stuff.

Nigga seriously gonna deny that Comoros, Zanzibar and the whole ass Swahili coast was colonized by arabs.
I guess the local negroes just co-invented islam independently or something

Last I checked, the ancestors of the Malagasy were simply Austronesian.

>>18495845
There is archeological evidence that suggests people at least visited the island every now and then long before the Austronesians showed up.

look at the shape of the coast of Africa south of the Sahara, compare it to Europe's, and you shouldn't be surprised that the latter had a better shipbuilding tradition.
And also note that the part which had a bunch of little offshore islands and potential overseas trade partners gave rise to the Swahili
>>
>>18495813
>was colonized by arabs
Never happened
>I guess the local negroes just co-invented islam independently or something
Based on the oral tradition islam was probably introduced in the Swahili coast and Ngazidja by Persians merchants.
>>
>>18495839
Not that funny considering that the strong water currents makes it almost impossible to sail from the coast to the nearby island, the same water currents that allowed Austronesians to reach the Island without dying in the middle of the sea.
>>18495845
Again water currents. European sailing ships were unable to get near the African coast so they employed locals mariners and their cannoes for transportation.
>>
>>18495757
>Mud huts
Clay and timber

Sources?
>>
>>18495839
The currents basically makes it impossible to sail from Africa's coast. Its still a problem till date.
>>
>>18495021
Yeah, being able to survive living in the mud without clothes requires abundance. If you try that in Finland you freeze to death before you can starve to death.

Africa was like the other continents where, because they didn't have the small set of institutions which enabled the vast expansion of the European economy, they were typically unable to resist the European powers.

Africa also saw for many centuries a period of great decentralization and deurbanization because of the effects of the muslim and trans-atlantic slave trade. The African kingdoms who took the most slaves in war were able to buy the most and newest guns and weapons from Europe, which forced most African kingdoms into having to raid for more and more slaves.
This meant that Africans not wanting to be captured and sold would have to life more separate and disconnectedly.

Plus Africa, much like the rest of the world, had a tradition of submitting loyalty to a liege while retaining control of one's fiefdom.
So many African kingdoms and polities just agreed to join these European empires to retain sovereignty and their titles, while also enjoying extra protection.

Beautiful!
Let me read up about that place

>Mutsamudu was likely founded in 1482. It grew into a prosperous Swahili port, funneling traffic between the Swahili ports of Mozambique and Madagascar.
>Later Arab, Persian, Indian, Somali, and Malagasy sailors and traders settled in the town.

>During an expedition along the Swahili Coast in 1773, the commissioner Frederick Holtzappel visited the town. He expressed his admiration, noting that the houses were built with stone, whitewashed inside and out, had plank painted ceilings, and were thatched with coconut leaves. He also observed several two-story houses belonging to the "Turkified" elite.

>because they didn't have the small set of institutions which enabled the vast expansion of the European economy, they were typically unable to resist the European powers.
Asante empire imposed a trade embargo on British products in 1860s and before that Britan had a trade defecit with Asante since the only thing they were willing to buy were luxury goods they didn't know how to make. This was the general trend, at least for the region.
>Africa also saw for many centuries a period of great decentralization and deurbanization because of the effects of the muslim and trans-atlantic slave trade
The states that engaged most in the slave trade ended up being the most centralized and urbanized. In the Metropolitian Asante metropolitan area, out of a population of 750,000, over 100,000 lived in the Kumasi district alone (Asante in the Nineteenth Century By Ivor Wilks pg 80-83)
>which forced most African kingdoms into having to raid for more and more slaves
They weren't forced to do anything, the trade was a convenient way to get rid of male soldiers who would have been executed anyway.
>This meant that Africans not wanting to be captured and sold would have to life more separate and disconnectedly.
Where the fuck are you get any of those informations anon?
>So many African kingdoms and polities just agreed to join these European empires to retain sovereignty and their titles, while also enjoying extra protection.

>>
It didn't, they held out longer than anyone else despite their proximity to Europe, Africa wasn't colonised until relatively recently compared to more distance places.
>>
>>18495845
They did settle the larger island of Bioko and recent investigations into the evolution of the Cameroonian canoe show that they did make it to Principe but did not settle there.

You don't know what you're talking about, subhuman. Madagascar was settled by Austronesians, and Bantus played a role in its early state building.
