A tangent interesting question historically (given how they're portrayed), is did the Germans ever do similar broad spanning indiscriminate urban ravaging? I'm actually curious and not rhetoricposting, hard as it may be to believe. Most obviously they bombed london with zepplins, but never sought to burn it whole, which may have been tactical as to be more of harassment in attempt to rile the locals to surrender.

My grandfather was a navigator/radioman on a B-17 and he always told me that they felt that they had wasted their bomb load on rubble.
