He was an excellent soldier but a mediocre king. I mean, he was no joke on the battlefield. He gave Ptolemy a run for his money and while he didn't win every battle, the fact he was able to bounce back often meant that he was a threat to most of the lower-level to lower end of high level Diadochi. It's no wonder that the other Diadochi had to usually team up against him. Even after his and his father's defeat at the Battle of Ipsus and he was forced to basically shrink back to a handful of Phoenician city ports,he just simply became a menace by becoming a pirate and then managing to snatch Macedon. I feel his failure to be a good king in realms outside of warfare caused him to lose the loyalty of his subjects and thus get chased out of Macedon as he fled to the east in hopes of trying to pull a Seleucus. Such a shame that, despite how daring he was, he ended up just dying as a prisoner in a golden cage.
